- Chapter 803 - 803 Find a good way
803: Find a good way.
803: Find a good way.
It was not hard for Daniel to read Ryan’s feelings because it was written right on his face.
The way his eyes were blazing with anxiousness of losing someone he hadn’t even made his, yet was too clear to be ignored. Ryan froze when he heard his friend.
But soon, his brows drew in a frown, and he looked away, dismissing the thought.
“You have gone stupid, Daniel.
Zenith is my secretary.
We maintain a formal, polite work relationship.
There is nothing else between us.” Daniel hummed, nodding as though agreeing to his words.
But then his lips curled up subtly at the corners, and he pointed at the window in front of which they were standing.
“Looking at yourself, brother.” When Ryan turned to stare at him instead, he gestured for him to follow his words once.
Ryan didn’t want to, but he turned to face the glass window anyway.
His reflection was vague, but against the darkness of the night, it was still visible. “Look at yourself and then try to disagree with what I am saying,” Daniel put that as the challenge -one that he didn’t allow Ryan to dismiss anymore.
“Zenith is your secretary -fine.
But can you confidently say that she isn’t the woman that you are already fearing to lose?” Ryan’s expression shifted in the reflection -noticing which Daniel’s smile only deepened. “You are holding the fears, brother, and that’s very … very clear in your eyes.
You are fearing to lose her … lose her to somebody when in your heart, you have already taken her as yours -and that’s exactly the reason behind your every irritation, every frustration and behind this absurd anxiousness which isn’t absurd at all.
It’s just something you aren’t ready to accept.” “As long as you accept the feelings or whatever you are feeling inside, this all will be solved.
Your mood would be solved.
So, accept it already.
You are in love with your beautiful secretary.
She has started to matter to you more than you realize, and you can no longer undo it.” Daniel said and nodded when Ryan’s eyes turned to meet his in the reflection of the glass. “If you still don’t want to believe it, look at your patterns and you will understand.
Her ignorance would have started to bother you as much as her indifference.
Her simple words would have started to pierce you because all of those would be meant to draw a line between you two.” Daniel explained more, and Ryan couldn’t help but read the pattern he hadn’t noticed before.
And the more he thought back about them, the more he felt it aligned with Daniel’s words. Zenith’s avoidance … her ignorance had burned him.
He couldn’t take it.
Not especially when she suggested the idea of leaving the company. Even though she had agreed to stay, he had made the HR still send him her employment contract just to make sure to know every loophole that could bind her to Foster Ventures … to him for at least the next ten years. This wasn’t normal … yet he had forced himself to reason with something that definitely didn’t match his real thoughts.
And even knowing it, he has chosen to believe it. “But how can I love her?” he asked, not understanding the possibility.
“She has always been my secretary.” “Yes, the secretary who knows you very well.
The one that you had depended upon when you were at your lowest,” Daniel answered him as though the answer had always been very clear. When Ryan turned to look at him, he patted his arm and gestured him towards the couch.
“I brought the one-best-kind of whisky.
Let’s try it while we discuss this.” And with that, he already turned and walked to the cabinet on the side where he knew the glasses were kept. While Ryan took a seat on the couch, Daniel poured the drinks.
Handing it to his friend, he finally said, “There is not one way of falling in love, brother.” He sipped the drink and hummed in appreciation of the flavour that instantly pleased him.
“It’s nice.
Take a sip and you will feel the flavour.” He asked him, but when he didn’t see Ryan moving, she sighed and kept the glass down to continue what he was explaining to him.
“What I meant was that not everyone falls in love the same way.
There are infinite ways -each way different and unique from the other.” “You didn’t fall in love with the woman who had been secretary for years,” he raised his finger and shook it against the idea that was getting misunderstood.
“No, you didn’t fall in love with her.
You fell for Zenith, who was there with you when you were at your lowest.
Who was there with you when you needed someone desperately?
You fell for the one who supported you through the time and phase when no one else did.” Daniel said that all in one breath.
When he finished it, he exhaled with a huff before taking a deep breath to add, “So, you are right when you said you cannot be felt for her because she has always been your secretary.
You feel for the woman who was there with you when you needed someone the most.” Ryan paused only to rewind Daniel’s words.
His brows furrowed, and his expression grew tighter.
“If I fell in love with her because she was there when I needed her -how is that called love?
Isn’t it just an attachment that grew because I had her when I had no one?
Isn’t that unfair to her?” Love should happen from mutual appreciation, and not out of need.
Otherwise, it would become unfair to the other person, and how could he push Zenith to an unfair end?
She didn’t deserve it. “There,” Daniel snapped his finger at him.
“You got the answer right there in your words, brother.” Ryan’s brows furrowed in confusion -reading which, Daniel shook his head and further explained, “It wouldn’t have been love if you had kept your need over hers.
If you had thought of yourself, instead of caring what would be fair or unfair for her.
But since you care more about her being mistreated, it’s not just some attachment.
It’s love.
Love where you want her, but more than that, you want her to have the best.
Even if it’s not with you.” He picked the glass again and slowly took another sip before shrugging casually.
“But if you still don’t believe that, you can try and see through an experiment.” “Experiment?” Ryan asked Daniel nodded.
“Yes.
An experiment,” he said and then continued, “Didn’t you say that Zenith is planning to go on a blind date?” Ryan’s jaw visibly tensed, the muscle in his cheek twitching. “Let her go,” Daniel said lightly.
“Watch her choose someone else, that’s not you.
Let her fall for another man, and when she comes to invite you to her wedding, you will realize how deeply you love her -because you will wish her for her happiness even if it destroys you.
And when she will have her first baby -” Daniel meant it as a tease, but the words barely left his mouth when a sudden crack echoed through the air.
He froze.
Ryan’s glass had shattered in his hand.
Blood trickled down his palm while the shards of glass embedded deep into his skin.
But even so, he didn’t flinch.
His expression was dark, resolute. Daniel hadn’t expected it to turn this way.
He stared at him wide-eyed before quickly leaning to remove the shards from his hand.
“You -are you crazy?” Ryan’s voice cut through the silence, deep and deliberate.
“I don’t care about being fair anymore,” he said, his tone hard as steel.
“If there is any man she will be around, it will be me.
No other man.
Fair or unfair -it doesn’t matter.” Daniel’s brows tugged in a frown.
“If this is what you wanted to say, you could have said it simply.
Why did you have to make your hand a battlefield?” He muttered, shaking his head.
“Doesn’t this look more absurd than the blind date you were just opposing of?” He then got up to get the first aid kit. As he cleaned and wrapped the gauge around it, he tsked and spoke.
“The thought of seeing her with another man itself burns you alive, and you still doubt about your feelings for her.
You are more dumb than I thought you to be.” Ryan didn’t respond.
He just stared at his wounded palm, which was now wrapped in gauze.
“I love her.” “Yes, you do,” Daniel nodded, closing the first aid kit.
“And thank goodness you realized it -though you had to hurt yourself in the most childish way to get there.
Now, I expect you to handle your emotions like an adult.
You can’t just stand and watch the woman you love choose someone else. So, you’d better find a good way to make her choose you instead.”
