793: Oblivion-X was never an unknown drug to me.

793: Oblivion-X was never an unknown drug to me.

Night turned into days, and with every minute stretching, Aiden’s anxiousness only grew more and more.

He never left Arwen’s side.

When she stirred in her unconscious state, he held her hand as though protecting himself from losing her.  Seeing him like this, Jason was troubled.

He tried his best to reassure him again and again, but he knew it wouldn’t work until Arwen woke up and Aiden confirmed it himself that she was fine.  “Brother, you need to get some rest,” Jason said, his voice laced with concern.

“You can’t go on like this.

Just look at yourself.

With four days and no sleep, you are looking sleep-deprived.

Are you really going to let Arwen see you like this?”  Aiden’s eyes didn’t move.

It remained at Arwen as he said, “Right now, my rest doesn’t matter.

What matters is her waking up.

How long will it take more?

Why hasn’t she yet woken up?” Jason looked at his friend and didn’t know how else to explain.

He already did it many times.

Every time he came here, Aiden would ask the same thing, and every time he would explain the same.  Taking a deep breath for the last time, he said, “Aiden, you need to relax.

Arwen is fine, and she is here with you.

She isn’t leaving you.

She is just unconscious, under the effect of a very strong doze of anaesthesia.

Once its effect wears off from her system, she would wake up.

How about until you rest until she wakes up?”  He said, and waited for Aiden to respond.

But that response never came.

In the end, Jason just sighed internally and patted Aiden’s shoulders before turning to leave.

“Don’t exhaust yourself too much.

She wouldn’t like it when she sees you like that.”  And with that, he walked out of the room.

Outside, Reese sat on the chair.

His eyes immediately glanced up when he heard the door opening, his gaze meeting Jason the very next second.  Jason paused but didn’t say anything to him.

Glancing at him, he just left.  Hours passed by, and just when Aiden felt his patience thinning, he saw a small movement in Arwen.

He took it as his imagination for a moment, but then he felt her fingers curling around his hand, and he looked at her face, his eyes searching for more evidence.  Arwen stirred, not in her unconscious state this time, but to finally wake up from the deep slumber she felt trapped in all this time.

Her eyelashes fluttered before she finally opened her eyes to take in the light around the room.  “Moon!” Aiden called softly, all the while holding her hand in his.

His tone carried a clear vulnerability -a fear underneath laced to it.  Arwen heard the voice, and she turned to look.

For the first half second, her gaze felt empty, but the next second, her lips curved up to give a small, reassuring smile to him.

“You don’t have to look so scared, husband.

I meant to keep my promise when I said that I won’t forget you ever again.”  Aiden stared at her, unblinking, as though not very sure how to react.

Arwen let him watch her.

She tried to shift a little to get more comfortable, and the moment her expression changed, Aiden got up to help her.  “Careful!

Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?” he asked, ready to call Jason already.  However, Arwen held his hand, stopping him.

“I just felt a little dizzy.

I am not uncomfortable,” she said, as her eyes studied him.

“Why are you like this?

For how many nights have you not slept?”  Aiden furrowed his brows, but he didn’t answer her.

Instead, he adjusted the sheet over her before saying, “I should call Jason to take a look since you woke up.”  She wanted to stop him, but he had already moved away.  Jason came soon after.

Seeing Arwen, he smiled before coming to check her vitals.

“You were sleeping under the effect of anaesthesia.

A very strong one.

It might be making you feel a little tired.” He said, and Arwen nodded.

“Yes, I feel a kind of heaviness.

Exhausted.”  “That’s normal,” Jason replied.

“It only means that there is still a lingering effect remaining in your system.

Once it’s gone, you will feel better.”  Arwen nodded in understanding before cautiously asking, “I haven’t forgotten anything yet.

Does that mean they weren’t successful in their attempt?” Although she was trying to make it look like she was fine, she was internally very scared.  Jason paused and exchanged a glance with Aiden.

“You weren’t injected with the drug,” Jason finally said, turning back to her.

“Aiden reached just in time.

They would have probably proceeded after giving you that anaesthesia.”  Arwen relaxed … finally.

Only she knew how much it dreaded her that moment when she felt that needle pierce her skin.

Even though she was prepared for it, she felt her preparation was not at all enough.  “That’s great,” she nodded, giving a slow smile -one that did not at all reach her eyes.

“I am then fortunate that things end up in my favour rather than theirs.” The awkwardness was clear in her words and tone.  Aiden’s jaws tightened when he saw her holding back like that.

He stepped forward and wrapped his arm around her, letting her lean on him.

“It’s fine.

They will no longer be able to do it again.”  Arwen trusted him, but it still pained her.

Pained her more than she wanted to accept.

After all, the one who tried to harm her was not just anyone, but her own mother.

The one who should have instead protected her.  A tear slipped from her eyes and rolled down her cheek, and she leaned in more for Aiden’s warmth.

Right now, only his embrace made her feel comfortable.  Jason watched them and didn’t interrupt.

Giving an understanding nod to Aiden, he left.

Just as he moved, Arwen noticed someone else in the room, whom she hadn’t noticed before.  She blinked in recognition before pulling away slightly from Aiden.

“Dr.

Calvin, you are also here?”  Reese shifted on his feet before giving her a small nod.

“I came to check on you.”  Arwen smiled.

But then something struck her, and with her brows squeezed in confusion, she asked, “How did you find out?” No one could find out her situation until Aiden informed them, and she never told Aiden about Reese for them to know each other.

There is no way Aiden would have informed him.  And if Aiden hadn’t informed them, how did Reese come to know about her?  Reese’s gaze darted to look towards Aiden, and following his line of sight, Arwen also turned to look at him.

Her confusion deepened, turning slightly in the arc of suspicion.  “You don’t know Dr.

Clark, do you?” she asked, and Aiden shook his head.  “I don’t,” he replied.  “Then how did you find him?” she asked, keeping her head tilted up to look at Aiden.  Aiden stared down at her and then slowly shook his head again.

“I didn’t find him,” he said, continuing, “he found us.”  “He did?” she repeated and turned towards Reese.  Aiden hummed and explained, “When I was taking you out of that laboratory, he was there.

I met him outside, and he said he knows how to treat your situation.”  Arwen paused.

She didn’t doubt the treatment part, because she knew Reese was aware of the drug enough to help her.

But what confused her was how he found her in that deserted old laboratory.

As far as she knew, her mother would have taken her there if that place had been so easy to reach.  Then how did Reese find her so exactly?

“Dr.

C-Calvin, can you please explain?” She didn’t ask him; rather, she asked him to explain.  Reese’s fingers curled, and he looked struggling.

“I was able to find you because I knew where to find you.” He finally said, and instead of explaining, his words only made Arwen frown more.  “You knew where to find me?” she repeated his words before pausing to ask, “How?

How did you know about that laboratory?”  Reese didn’t answer immediately.

He took his time, all this while Arwen’s eyes never left him.

She studied his struggle in detail, every twitch in his brows, every time his lips moved, but never opened up to speak fully.  “Dr.

Calvin, it’s fine.

As long as you explain, we will trust you.

You helped me assess my condition.

I trust you enough to believe your words.” She said, trying to ease him.  But little did she know that instead of easing him, her words only made him feel guilty.

Guilty of not being honest with her from the very beginning.  “Dr.

Calvin -”  “Arwen,” he stopped her from speaking more.

And when she paused, he finally revealed what he should have revealed in the very beginning.

“Oblivion-X was never an unknown drug to me.

I have known about it since always.”
