791: Everyone is going to suffer the worst.

791: Everyone is going to suffer the worst.

Before Catrin could react to Selene, a sudden sound of gunshot rang outside, stunning them all into silence.  Catrin flinched at that sharp sound, her frame jerking in the effect slightly.

Her eyes widened in alarm, while Selene froze on the spot.

Her body stiffened, instinctively sensing the danger.

The danger she could now easily perceive.

And just after, a group of men entered the laboratory.

They were all dressed in black uniforms, moving in with a crisp precision, stationing themselves to secure every corner of the room.

Their coordinated movements made it clear -this wasn’t a random intrusion.

They meant to seal the entire place.

“Who are you people?” Catrin demanded sharply, a frown creasing her brows.

“Why are you trespassing on my property?

Don’t you know breaking in like this is against the law?”  “So, you do know that’s it’s against the law?”  None of the men answered.

Instead, a cold voice pierced the air from the doorway, accompanied by the steady, aggressive rhythm of approaching footsteps.  Catrin turned towards the source of the voice.  Selene was first to recognize it.

Her blood ran cold.

Her initial instinct was to retreat, to find some corner to disappear into.

But the moment she tried to move, her gaze collided with a pair of sharp, icy eyes that rooted her to the spot.

“What are you doing here?” Catrin asked with quite clear displeasure laced in her tone.  Aiden strode in, his expression carved from stone, and his presence quite commanding in the room.

His gaze locked onto Catrin with an unflinching intimidation.  “You shouldn’t be surprised,” he said, his voice low and dangerous.

“The moment you took my wife; you should have known that I would find you -even if I had to cross hell itself to get here.”  Each step he took forward made Catrin instinctively take a step back.  “I didn’t bring her to any hell,” she retorted with a frown. “And I am her mother?

More than anyone else, I care for her.”  Aiden’s jaw tightened at the word ‘mother’.

He had never hated that word, but hearing it from Catrin’s lips filled him with a violent surge of anger.

His fingers curled into a fist at his side, then he lifted his chin slightly toward Emyr and Tariq standing behind him.  They understood the signal immediately.

Before Catrin could react, a few men moved swiftly to restrain both her and Selene.  “What – what are you doing?

Let go of me!” Catrin struggled, her composed demeanour shattering.  “Aiden, I didn’t do anything.

Let me go.” Selene shouted, thrashing wildly, but the men held her down with the same practised ease she had remembered from the last time.

Panic clawed at her throat -especially when her eyes met with Tariq’s.

It was as though he was waiting for something -something crueller than the last time.

She couldn’t help but feel the shiver creeping up her spine, dreading it to her core.

Selene had believed that as long as she wasn’t directly involved, she would stay untouched.

She hadn’t expected to be caught at the scene itself.

Now, no excuses seemed convincing enough to save her.  Aiden didn’t spare them another glance.

His focus shifted immediately, scanning the room -searching for the one he was here for.

His gaze was steady, but carrying the fear, the desperation.  And then he saw it.  On a narrow metal bed in the centre of the last, Arwen lay unconscious, pale and unnervingly still.

Beside her stood a man in a lab coat, fiddling with a syringe.  His entire being went frigid.

He charged forward, his movements sharp and purposeful.  The doctor flinched under his gaze.

He staggered back, ready to flee, but one of Aiden’s men stepped in and blocked his escape.  Aiden reached the bedside, his eyes softening only when they fell on Arwen.

She looked as though she were merely sleeping -peaceful.

But that very stillness filled him with gut-wrenching dread.

He closed the distance, his hand gently brushing against her cold cheek.

“Moon …” he called softly, hoping for even the slightest response.

But when she didn’t stir.

His jaw locked as his finger traced the corner of her eye, where faint wetness still lingered.

The wetness of her tears that only evidenced her struggle, her heartbreak, before she fell into unconsciousness.  He rubbed that little wetness between his fingers, and his jaw hardened.

His gaze shifted to the syringe still clutched in the doctor’s trembling hand.  “Did you inject her?” His voice dropped to a tone that could chill even the bravest demons in hell.  “I … I -” the doctor stammered, not knowing how he could explain it.

He was there just stuck in a situation from which he couldn’t escape.

He –  “Tariq!” Tariq moved without hesitation.

He reached the doctor and, in one swift motion, he slashed off the doctor’s fingers that held the syringe.  The man’s scream tore through the lab, making everyone freeze.

Especially Catrin.

She screamed as well, horrified.

“Ahh – you … you are insane!

How could you do that?” She had imagined everything but not something this gory.

How could someone be capable of such cruelty?  Selene squeezed her eyes shut, unwilling to watch.

But then she realized something, and her frame eased a little.

She opened her eyes slowly and watched Aiden, her gaze brightening up, thinking that even though they were caught, it was too late to undo anything.

Not just for them, but also for Aiden.  Arwen was already injected with the drug, which meant that she would either end up forgetting everything again or she would simply not survive.

Either way, she would win.  “Aiden, accept it already,” she spat out, laughing through her panic.

“You two weren’t meant to be together.

Not before, and not even now.

She is already drugged.

Now, even if you wake her up, it will be of no use cause.

Completely useless.

She would have already forgotten you and everything that you share with her.”  Aiden’s jaws clenched harder, his knuckles whitening as he held Arwen in his arms.

“Give her up now, Aiden.

You can’t keep chasing someone who keeps forgetting you as though it’s her second nature.” Selene’s voice rose, trying to provoke him.

“You have already wasted half of your life on her.

Why waste the rest?

This time, choose wisely.

Choose me.

I am the only -” “Tariq!”  Tariq once again understood his unsaid command.

Without a word, he turned towards Selene and then walked in her direction.

She froze, dread flooding her veins.

“Wait … what are you doing?” she stammered, her voice cracking.

“I was just -…”  Before she could say more, Tariq grabbed her jaw and forced her tongue out.

Her muffled scream echoed through the lab.

The next moment, blood splattered the floor as her tongue was brutally severed.  The sound that followed was a choked, guttural wail.

Selene dropped to her feet.

This time, the man holding her didn’t restrict her.

Rather allowed her down, letting her hand go.  She reached to hold her face, but stopped feeling the fear.

Blood was dripping from her mouth, so much that she wanted to faint, but the pain was simply keeping her awake.

“Aa … aaa …” she tried to speak; however, the realisation was crueller.  She was no longer capable of that.  Catrin watched her and stepped back, the horror making it difficult for her to even breathe.

She felt suffocated, and the stink of the blood was just making her feel dizzy.  “You … y-you are crazy.

Arwen would never accept this dark side of you.

She would -”  Aiden didn’t wait to listen to her.

He simply picked Arwen up in his arms, carrying her like a princess, before he walked from there.

He stopped near Tariq and said, “You know what you have to do.”  Tariq’s gaze darted to the three people in the room, and he nodded.

“Don’t worry, sir,” he said, his voice carrying the usual darkness.

“I will make sure to return the pain to them a thousandfold.

They will suffer the worst.” Aiden didn’t say more.

He just held Arwen close to himself and was about to stride out when he paused, seeing Idris standing at the door.  His gaze locked on Arwen, brows furrowed, and expression looking pained.

As though blaming himself for everything that happened.  “Idris …” Catrin called out with a sigh of relief.

“You are here.

Thank God.

Thank God, you are here.

Come in soon and save me.

This guy …

this guy has gone insane.

Look what he has done.”  Idris didn’t even glance her way.

He just looked at Aiden and asked, “How is she?

Is she fine?”  “Doesn’t matter,” Aiden said, calm, but his tone laced with fierce anger.

“Either way, everyone is going to suffer the worst.

Thousandfold to what she has to go through.”  And then with that, he didn’t linger; he just walked past him, leaving the place without another word.  Idris stood there rooted to the place.  Catrin watched him and a frown drew between her brows.

“Idris, are you just going to let him go with our daughter like that?”
