Chapter 342: He’s very friendly
The guards hesitated for a second, before they began to move towards the hero party.

The Hero Party. The party that was supposed to protect the Kingdom.

If they touched them, they had no idea what hell they were going to unleash. What it would cost.

“Stop!” It was Duke Vespertine who called out. “Don’t attack them! Are you fucking mad? They are the reason the Kingdom is even standing! The Heroes are there!” He was desperate, but the Queen didn’t care.

In fact, it looked like she had a malicious glint in her eyes, and it wasn’t just directed at Cass.

It was also directed at Fiona.

“They could be compromised! After all, they’ve been interacting with a demon in human flesh.” She declared and Cass let out another round of laughter.

“As far as I can see, you’re the most demonic entity here.” Cass told her, to her face, and the woman’s pretty features twisted and made her terribly ugly. “While I agree that demons are bad, I’m finding that it’s the humans in my life that are the worst creatures I’ve ever come across.” Cass told the room, before he waved his hand and every guard who had been moving towards them raised up into the air.

Cass let out a heavy sigh, glanced around, and realised that they weren’t getting anywhere. Cass made some fast calculations, before he just shrugged.

“Lucy.” Cass called, holding the guards in the air. Lucian prowled to his side, his eyes glowing as anger pulsed off of him.

“Yes, Cass?” He asked and Fiona sucked in.

“You are not-” She began but Cass ignored her.

“We’re going with plan D, alright?” Cass said casually, and Lucian blinked a few times before a slow, predatory smile crossed his face. He stood up at his full height, glee in every inch of his body.

“Oh. Oh. Who is it? How many?” Lucian asked, scanning the audience with pure glee. Cass moved his free hand slowly, deliberately, before he pointed at the interloper. The idiot who thought he could get what he wanted with a few gold coins.

Cass owned this Kingdom. He better fucking watch his step.

“Him.” Cass declared and Lucian began to crack his knuckles.

“Oh goody. I love taking out the trash. It might give me indigestion though.” Lucian complained, looking towards Cass with big eyes. Cass gave a laugh.

“I’ll rub your stomach or something later than.” Cass promised and Lucian’s eyes lit up.

“That’s a promise. No taking it back.” Lucian warned, his pupils elongating as they spoke. Cass felt his lips twitch.

“Come here, Avie. No need to see this.” Edgar muttered, and Fiona snorted.

“Don’t even attempt to cover my eyes, Gideon. I’ve seen worse. I need to see this, for both of us.” Fiona warned and Cass had a feeling he knew what was going on behind them.

Edgar was protecting Lady Ava from seeing this, considering this something she didn’t need to see. He had acted before Fiona could, since it would be more suspicious if she did it. Lord Ridgewood had attempted to do the same, but this was Fiona they were talking about.

She was the one who had convinced Lucian to join the party in the first place.

“I promise, Lucy. Now, go. And try not to make a mess.” Cass asked and Lucian gave him a wink before he began to move. Before anyone could say another word, Lucian’s body exploded outwards.

Screams of terror and fear filled the air as a dragon beyond comprehension filled the space.

It wasn’t big enough for a dragon’s body. The ballroom wouldn’t even be enough space for something of his size to turn around in. Cass was aware that Lucian had taken that into consideration, taken where Cass and the rest of the party was, and had made sure his body went in the opposite direction.

It was stunning to see him. Cass literally felt the breath leave his lungs.

He had called himself a red dragon, but that didn’t do the man justice. He was red, of course, that was the primary colour of his scales, but that wasn’t just his colour.

His scales were tinged in black. Each scale unique, different, with darker shades of red along his spine and the parts of him that moved often, while lighter, brighter shades of red were placed on the more…rounded parts of him. It was hard to imagine that there were more rounded parts of him.

The man looked built, thick, all muscle and death.

His tail curled close to his body, clearly aware of how much space that he had. His back was to Cass, so he couldn’t make out his face distinctly, but he could see his side profile.

Sharp scales, defined brows, and sharp, sharp teeth. White, clean, dangerous. Smoke curled out his nostrils, and the smell of sulfur filled the air. Cass swallowed thickly as he stared at the hands, the talons that had to be his hands and feet.

Cass could feel…deep in his bones, the connection that tied him to this dragon, and he could also tell that this?

This wasn’t his full form.

He had shrunk himself so that he could fit into this ballroom, and Cass was a bit glad for that. His legs felt like jelly just seeing him like this.

It wasn’t horror, or shock like it was for the others. It was simply because he felt so…big inside of Cass.

The spot that Cass had been avoiding, the line that tethered them together felt more potent when he was in this form. Cass hadn’t realised it till the moment, but he had to hold himself back from going to the giant beast and pressing his hands against his scales.

Just to feel him. Know him.

Fuck, he didn’t realise he had this side to himself. Cass hadn’t been a fan of those alien stories. The ones where the partners weren’t quite human, but maybe Cass had avoided them because this? This feeling that was churning in his gut?

It was a familiar feeling, and Cass was man enough to admit that he was scared of the potency of it.

That was when Lucian looked back at him, and Cass knew he was looking back at him. His big, orange, slitted eye stared at him before his second eyelid slid over it and Cass had to force himself to not react.

Not to cover his mouth, not to whimper. The simmering he had worried about? He was fucked. He was so fucked.

Cass was on a time limit now, and part of that was because he’d seen Lucian like this. That was going to be a hard truth he was going to have to face later.

His grandfather had been whisked away as soon as the shift in mood had been sensed, so he hadn’t been crushed under Lucian’s big body. Some of the other nobles weren’t as lucky, but the guards that Cass had held up were lucky.

They were almost completely out of Lucian’s range of destruction. Lucian did nudge one of them with a claw, making him spin in a circle in his fancy, shiny armor that the King had put him in.

The Crown Prince and Queen stumbled back, grabbing onto each other and leaving the King behind. Ducking to safety while the King remained frozen in place. The King didn’t seem to notice, a horrifying realisation crossing his expression as Lucian grabbed the fucker who the King had brought in to ruin the hero party and twist it to his will in one clawed, scaly hand and pulled him towards his mouth.

The man didn’t even have time to realise what was going on before Lucian dangled him by his ankle over his open maw, and then dropped him down. The sound of his fire starter filled the air before smoke began to pour out of his mouth.

In a twisted, fucked up way, Cass realised that it smelled like barbeque. That was going to fuck him up for a while.

Lucian let out a deep, guttural sound that shook the walls. Shook the floor.

Made it clear that they were just guests on his fucking turf.

“T-The Red Dragon!” Some noble managed to get out, and Cass felt a sense of pride fill him as others recognised who, what Lucian was.

How he had been a part of the hero party, barely contained because of Fiona, and then Cass.

“Why does it smell like that?” Lady Ava asked and Fiona let out a shaky breath.

“Well, Lucy just ate a man, so…” Fiona trailed off.

“Oh. Okay.” Lady Ava said quietly. “So he’s gone?” She confirmed, and Fiona let out a dry laugh.

“I doubt anyone could survive that, Avie.” Fiona told her and Lady Ava let out a shaky breath.

“Can I…ask Lucy to show me?” She asked and Cass felt something warm in his chest. Lady Ava was anxious that the situation had been handled too quickly. It was…Cass could admit it. It was cute of her, even in this situation, and it harmed no one. Cass could step in for her in this case.

“I can ask. Do you trust me?” Cass asked, turning slightly to take his eyes off of the dragon before him. He looked back at Edgar, who was holding his hand still over Lady Ava’s eyes. Edgar nodded, uncovering them before Lady Ava opened her eyes. They stared at Cass, scanning him, before she nodded.

“Yeah. You wouldn’t lie to me.” She said, and Fiona flinched.

“Got it. I’ll confirm for you.” Cass told her, giving her a thumbs up. She seemed a little confused by the action, but gave him a thumbs up in return. Cass turned back to the dragon, and was glad that Lady Ava gave him a reason to approach him. His hands twitched. He wanted to touch those scales. It was something he couldn’t fight.

He was going to blame the bond. There was no other reason why Cass would want to touch him like this.
