Chapter 271: Emily’s 16th birthday
The rest of the mages had already retreated back to the camp to rest and restore their mana after finally killing off all the spider soldiers. They would then begin collecting the corpses after they had all rested and treated their wounds.
Alex and the rest of the Saint rank mages arrived at the camp and were received by the others, cheers for Mr Chen echoed all over the camp.
Although the others haven’t witnessed Mr Chen’s battle like the Saint mages, they had felt the overwhelming pressure of the fight and truly admired Mr Chen.
Mages from the sixth continent were most glad about this as they were able to hold their heads high with such a figure from their continent.
Femi invited Mr Chen to come chat in his tent while they waited for the others to finish gathering the corpses of the spider sol. This would take some time, during which they would discuss how to distribute their gains.
But Alex declined the offer and said that he couldn’t wait for that. He wasn’t a part of the Union to begin with and had other things to attend to; he needed to return to the sixth continent as soon as possible, as he had wasted enough time here already.
“All right, I won’t force you to stay back then. Be sure to come look for me if you ever come to the first continent and I hope I’ll be able to see you if I come to your continent.” Femi said while waving Alex goodbye.
The other Saint mages also said the same thing as Alex left the camp in the company of Maria and Lucas, they were headed for the location of the teleportation formation that had brought them here earlier.
“It’s all thanks to Mr Chen, the sixth continent will finally gain some respect and recognition from the other continents, and we’ll definitely get the most resources from this operation,” Lucas said along the way, expressing his gratitude to Mr Chen once more.
Alex simply said that he had only come at Maria’s request, plus, Maria had offered to pay him for his help.
“Haha, you really are funny, Mr Chen. I don’t think that our Union will ever be able to pay you enough money that will be worth the work that you did during this operation.
Nevertheless, I’ll make sure that the amount for your payment won’t be small at least.” Lucas said with a short laugh.
Alex nodded and turned to ask Maria if she would be returning with him to their country.
“I’ll need to wait till the resources from the operation have been distributed and then discuss your payment with Vice President Lucas, William, and the others, who can oversee the affairs of the Union Core Centre in my absence,” Maria replied.
“I see,” Alex said softly, that makes sense.
They arrived at the spot shortly after, and Alex stood in the centre of the formation while Maria activated it.
“Well, see you next time then,” Lucas said with a smile as the formation lit up.
“Hmm,” Alex nodded, just before disappearing.
After Alex disappeared, Maria and Lucas continued staring at the centre of the formation, which was now empty.
“It would be great if he would agree to join the Union, our continent would definitely get a better ranking in the next national mages tournament if he could train some of our candidates,” Lucas said with a sigh.
…..
Meanwhile, the formation located on the highest floor of the Union Core Centre building lit up with a dazzling light, and Alex’s figure appeared a moment later.
He was back in Brandvel City!
He could no longer feel the cold of the eternal snowland nor hear the howling wind, he felt that the atmosphere in Brandvel City was more comfortable.
Alex then proceeded to use Void Walk and left the building. He appeared inside his apartment and brought out his phone. Alex saw that he had received several calls and messages from different people.
The one with the highest amount of calls was obviously his mother who had been trying to contact him for the past two days.
Since he was busy at that time and his phone was inside his storage ring, Alex wasn’t able to answer any of them. He immediately called her back.
The call had barely rang for three seconds when Freda picked it up and her extremely worried voice sounded from the other side.
She launched a barrage of questions at Alex immediately after the call connected. She sounded so worried and angry, but at the same time relieved that Alex finally called her back.
Alex couldn’t help but smile while listening to his mother scolding him on how it was important to always keep his phone close by.
He had offered a simple explanation as to why he hadn’t been picking up her calls, and it was related to the Magic University. Freda easily accepted this explanation, but still said that he would have tried to check his phone even if he was very busy with other activities in the university.
After a long time of nagging, Freda finally told Alex the reason they had been trying to reach him.
Apparently, it was going to be Emily’s 16th birthday in a few days and she was finally at the age to attempt awakening!
Of course, Alex hadn’t forgotten about this and it was one of the reasons why he had rushed back from the eternal snowland.
He told his mother that he would request another leave and head back to Balon City as quickly as possible.
“Okay, I’ll inform your father and Emily that you’re coming home,” Freda said before ending the call.
After ending the call with his mother, Alex checked the other messages which were from Eric, Ellie, and members of the Rising Wave group.
He replied to everyone before putting his phone back inside his storage ring.
Emily would be trying her first awakening in a few days, of course, he had to be there. The girl would probably pout and refuse to talk to him if he didn’t show up at her awakening.
Besides, he had promised to get her an awakening stone with space affinity; this would increase her odds of awakening the space element.
This had been Emily’s wish; she wanted to awaken the same element as her big brother. Since the space element was rare and powerful, Alex didn’t mind helping her to awaken it.
But before going back to Balon City, Alex decided to hold his three classes at the Magic University first.
He left his apartment and arrived at the university grounds quickly before going to look for Julius and informing him that he would be holding his classes later today and the following two days.
Julius quickly went to notify the others, while Alex left to prepare for his first class, which would be later today.
Days passed quickly and Alex was finally ready to return to Balon City for Emily’s awakening; he had completed all three of his classes at the Magic University.
The topic that he had taught about during his classes this time was his experience of fighting a Calamity rank magic beast, a three-eyed spider lord.
Alex had literally spent his three classes talking about his fight with the spider lord; he had kept out a lot of details for obvious reasons, yet the students and instructors of Brandvel Magic University still found the story incredibly interesting.
There wasn’t a single person who didn’t return the next day for the rest of the story. After all, it wasn’t every day that one could hear of a fight between such powerhouses.
Maria had returned during these three days as well and had handed Alex his rewards from the operation. Mr Chen’s rewards included a Union card with the sum of 50 trillion Zen in it and five grade five magic items.
Alex was honestly surprised by the rewards he had received, the Union was truly generous. He learned from Maria that the sixth continent had received almost all of the corpses of the Calamity rank beasts, and it was all thanks to Mr Chen, since he was the one who killed most of them.
After receiving his payment, Alex had purchased an awakening stone with the space element affinity using Maria’s help.
The Union Core Centre didn’t have one, so Maria quickly found one from a different source and informed Alex, who then went to buy it.
Note that using such an awakening stone doesn’t guarantee that a person will awaken that particular element; it only increases the chances of them awakening the element.
They could still end up awakening a different element or the awakening could even fail.
Now that everything was ready, Alex left Brandvel City and started his journey back to Balon City.
When he arrived, it was already evening and most shops had closed. While making his way to his family’s mansion, Alex took out his phone and informed his parents that he had arrived.
Some time later.
“Big brother Alex!”
