Chapter 260: Spider army, attack!
Back at the camp of the mages from the sixth continent.
“Mr Chen, I appreciate that you came to help us out even though you aren’t a part of the Union but this plan is complete madness,” Lucas said with utter seriousness while staring at Alex.
He still found it hard to believe that Femi had accepted such an absurd plan so easily. Saint rank mages were the most treasured people of each continent; losing one was similar to losing one’s teeth; it was a disaster!
“It’s not the duty of the Union alone to protect the contents, I’m simply keeping my home safe,” Alex replied calmly.
Lucas’s lips twitched upon hearing this.
“That’s not what I meant. I know it’s everyone’s duty to protect the continents, but not by throwing your life away. You’re a Saint rank mage, a treasured individual of the sixth continent, dying here won’t be worth it even if we do kill the spider lord!” Lucas stated in a rush.
“That’s good, because I don’t plan to die. Just focus on dealing with the weaker spider soldiers.” Alex said before walking off.
After Alex left, Lucas dropped into the chair in his tent and held his head with both hands.
“He’s so difficult to talk to, when did such a stubborn Saint even appear in our continent?” He muttered to himself, his voice filled with hopelessness.
No matter how he looked at this plan, there wasn’t a possibility of victory with one person dealing with so many Calamity rank magic beasts.
Not everyone could reach the Saint rank, only the most talented of the talented could achieve it. Each continent only had so many Saint rank mages, losing one wasn’t something that a continent could afford.
At this moment, Maria and the other Sorcerer rank mages from the sixth continent entered the tent.
“We’ve gathered everyone and are ready to move,” Maria reported.
“I see, thanks.” Lucas looked up and mumbled, suddenly sounding like someone who hasn’t slept well for an entire week.
Maria knew what he was thinking about, she stepped forward and said.
“You don’t have to worry too much. I haven’t known Mr Chen for long, but I’ve heard a lot about him. One thing I’m sure of is that he doesn’t make decisions blindly; he definitely has a plan.”
Although she said this, Maria wasn’t so sure of how much she believed Mr Chen anymore. But they didn’t have any choice now, since the decision had already been made; they just had to see how it went.
Meanwhile, at the camp of those from the first continent.
A tall man with brown skin and sharp brown eyes stood behind Femi who was staring at the distant snowland.
“We’ve gathered everyone,” the man reported.
“I see, good job, Tive,” Femi said without looking back. The cold wind blew against his face and snow covered his hair quickly but he remained unmoving.
Similarly, Tive stood still with an expressionless face as he stared at Femi’s back.
“You probably think this plan is crazy and I shouldn’t have accepted, right!” Femi asked after several seconds of silence.
Tive didn’t reply and just kept staring.
“Having known you for long, I guess that’s a yes.” Femi spoke up again with a chuckle as he stared down at the snow at his feet.
“You see, we Saint rank mages might seem full of ourselves sometimes but I assure you, we won’t make decisions that will kill us.
That Mr Chen, I feel that there’s something special about him. Who knows, he might really be able to pull this off.
And even if he doesn’t, we just have to retreat since we’re only dealing with the weaker spider soldiers. He should have a way to escape if he realises that he can’t win.” Femi explained.
“And if he can’t escape?” Tive finally asked.
Femi’s eyes flashed with a glint after hearing this question.
“If he can’t escape, I’ll make sure he comes back alive so that I can lecture him on being a smarter person next time. Isn’t that why you decided to join the Union with me?” Femi said with a reminiscing smile as if recalling a funny event from the past.
Tive’s eyes twitched but he didn’t say anything.
Some time later, all of the mages present had gathered in front of the camp. There were over a thousand mages but majority of them were at the Grand Archmage and Sage mage rank, less than a hundred were at the Elder mage and Sorcerer mage rank.
The eight Saint rank mages stood at the very front and led the thousand plus mages as they advanced on the snow.
The wind got fiercer as they moved forward and the falling snow was almost thick enough to create a snow screen that was hard to see through.
Those below the Elder mage rank had already summoned several magic items to help resist the cold and keep moving.
“Are you ready? We’ll be reaching the camp of the spider lord soon.” Femi turned to Alex who was by his left.
“Hmm,” Alex gave a silent nod in affirmation.
Lucas, who was next to Alex, gritted his teeth but didn’t say anything in the end as they kept moving.
After several minutes of crossing the thick snow, they arrived at the foot of a gigantic snow mountain range.
One could see countless spiders with white hair that were no difference from the snow covering their bodies. These white hair made them difficult to spot but the good thing was that everyone here was relatively powerful and possessed high sensing abilities.
The spiders had several long legs and were at least the size of a small truck, there were hundreds of thousands of them at a single glance.
And Alex could sense even more on the other side of the snow mountain range, stronger ones at that.
“The.Humans.Are.back.inform.The.General!” A loud shriek pierced the howling wind as one of the spiders that had spotted the mages shouted.
Shortly after, the snow began to tremble violently and sounds of several creatures approaching at fast speed tore through the wind.
In less than ten seconds, hundreds of figures appeared all over the top of the snow mountain range.
They were the five hundred plus spider Generals that were at the Divine rank, all of them were in human form.
Alex was surprised by this since he already knew through Alicia that magic beasts could assume human form after reaching the Divine beast rank.
“You all are really looking to die, huh?” One of the spider Generals shouted from the top of the mountain range.
“This time, we’ll make sure that none of you go back in one piece, kill them!” Another one shouted before the hundreds of thousands of transformed ranked spider soldiers to attack the mages.
“Kill.The.Humans!”×999
Countless spider soldiers shrieked in unison as they rushed down to meet the mages.
“Spells!” Femi voiced out calmly.
At the sound of his voice, Tive and other Sorcerer rank mages from the first continent rose into the air and stars of different elements began to appear around them.
Tive had the wind element so his stars were blue. Hundreds of stars appeared around Tive and he connected them into a single Link after forming a hundred Nebulars.
After forming the gigantic Link that covered a good portion of the sky, thousands of wind archer spirits with wind bows appeared from the Link.
They drew their bowstrings and fired wind arrows at the incoming beasts.
Swish! Swish!!! Swish!!
The sounds of thousands of wind arrows filled the air for a moment before chaos broke loose.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!!!
The wind arrows crashed into the spiders rushing down from the mountain range, killing thousands of them and creating great devastation to the snow mountain.
The damage was mind blowing but something else shocked Alex.
‘A chantless spell!’
