Chapter 256: Joining the joint operation.
Time flew quickly, and in the blink of an eye, two months had passed, and it was time for another assessment. Nothing eventful happened during the past months, Alex continued to attend classes as usual while farming exp as Mr Chen whenever he got the chance.
He also spared some time to join old Harold and his group for some outdoor training and even invited Eric to his apartment.
As the only friend he had, Eric had insisted on knowing where Alex lived off campus. Unable to shake off the persistent Eric, Alex had no choice but to bring him over one day after classes.
As for Ellie, their relationship had continued like normal after their date. Things didn’t become awkward or weird; they even seemed to have gotten closer, and Alex was thankful for this.
After finding out that Ellie was also a member of the Union, Alex accepted some missions and asked her to accompany him, as it would be too dangerous for him to go alone with his strength as a Core rank mage.
Although Ellie would scold him as to why he would accept such a mission with his strength, she would still agree to accompany him. This was her trying to protect Alex and to make sure he completed the mission without any problems that might affect his record as an explorer.
Aside from that, Alex kept in touch with his family and was constantly getting the latest situation of Balon City from Alicia.
Balon City has been peaceful during the past months, and no suspicious person had appeared again; it seemed that the Dark Union had finally decided to leave Balon City alone, or they were waiting for a good moment before coming again.
A good moment would probably be when they got information on Mr Chen since they already knew that he was the one killing all of their members.
Alex decided to let the matter of Balon City be for the time being, till Alicia reported anything at least.
His main objective still remained crafting more Saint rank spells. He didn’t forget the words of the Void knight.
Alex still didn’t know when another one would appear or how many would appear; he had to make sure that he was prepared for when that happened.
Another thing was the second system holder that the Void knight talked about. Alex had very little information about this second system holder, and he didn’t even know what to do.
Was the second system holder also like him? If they had similar systems, they would be troublesome to deal with.
And he didn’t even know how he was supposed to identify the other party. He hoped that they would never run into each other, but that was most likely not going to be the case since the Void knight was sure that they would meet.
As for how his preparation was going, Alex had finally gathered up to a million exp points and was preparing to craft his third Saint rank spell.
He didn’t have any particular spell in mind right now that he wanted to craft, and although he could always ask the system to auto-craft, he didn’t.
This was because Maria had reminded him some time ago about the joint operation to attack the Calamity rank three-eyed spider lord which was starting this month. He planned to see the spells of others during the operation and maybe he would get some ideas for his next spell.
But since the assessment was approaching and he couldn’t leave yet, he asked Maria if she could wait for some time.
Maria explained that the operation would start even without her as the mages from the Union headquarters of their continent had already gone ahead, so she could wait for Mr Chen.
Although she hoped that he would hurry up a bit with whatever he was doing.
That was why after finishing the assessment and the results came out, Alex immediately submitted his form for the one-week leave.
“You know, it’s not a must for you to request a leave from classes. Although you still came in first place despite skipping classes last time, it’s not a guarantee that you’ll come in first place if you keep taking a week’s leave.” Ellie said with a serious face as she glared at Alex.
They were both currently in front of the admission hall. Ellie had run into Alex after he had just submitted his request for leave. It went without saying that she wasn’t happy with his decision.
“I know but there’s something really important that I have to take care of, sorry,” Alex explained with an apologetic look.
“It’s all right, I believe you know what you’re doing so I won’t stop you. Just make sure not to overdo it, the other students won’t let you keep getting first place for long if this continues.” Ellie stated before leaving.
Alex had a slight smile on his face as he watched her head into the admission hall, he left the place after Ellie went inside the building.
He first went to his apartment before using Void Walk to head to the Union Core Centre. He equipped his mask and robe on the way there.
Arriving at the Union Core Centre, Alex appeared in Maria’s office; it was the location he had picked for the second Void gate after all.
Upon exiting the white space of the skill, he saw that the office was empty; the woman wasn’t here.
However, the door of the office opened the next moment and Maria walked in.
A look of pleasant surprise painted her face upon seeing the white mask and black robe.
Mr Chen!
“I felt a presence in my office and immediately rushed over. I didn’t expect it to be you, Mr Chen,” Maria said with a big smile, but suddenly paused before letting out a short laugh.
“On second thoughts, it would be strange if it wasn’t you, you’re the only one who would randomly appear at places without any warning.” She added.
Alex “…”
‘She wasn’t wrong about that,’ he said inwardly before telling Maria that he had finished what he was previously occupied with and that they could get going now and join the others for the operation.
Maria was most glad to hear this, she asked Mr Chen to follow her while she brought out her phone and sent out a message.
Alex silently followed and both of them left the office. Some time later, they arrived at the highest floor of the building, and two more people came to join them not long after.
Alex remembered seeing them before, but Maria still introduced them again; they were the elders of the Union Core Centre.
Both of them were at the Sage mage rank.
Alex asked why William wasn’t coming despite also being an elder. Maria explained that no one below the Grand Archmage rank was allowed to participate in this operation as they could easily die.
‘So dangerous?’ Alex thought to himself, surprised by the strength standard of this operation.
Meaning even someone like Julius, who was at the Archmage rank, could lose his life if he wasn’t careful.
“All right, let’s go.” Maria voiced out and clapped her hands together as mana gushed out of her body and shot to different locations in the room.
The room they were currently in was an empty large room with just the four of them present. After Maria’s action just now, the centre of the room lit up with dazzling silver white light.
A teleportation formation!
