Chapter 251: Honorary instructor Chen.
“This is the badge of an honorary instructor of our Magic University. Including yourself, only three of these badges have been given out. Of course, if you ever change your mind anytime and want to become a permanent instructor, you just have to come back and we’ll change it for you.” Vice Dean Hannah said as she handed a gold badge to Alex.
This was what would signify his status as an honorary instructor of Brandvel Magic University.
Alex accepted the badge and quietly stored it in his storage ring under the sleeve of his robe.
Vice Dean Hannah had already explained the responsibilities and privileges of an honorary instructor to him a while ago. As an honorary instructor, Mr Chen was required to hold at least three lectures every three months.
Making it a class every month was totally up to him and the topic he would want to teach was also up to him to decide.
He could decide to teach more classes if he was free, but the minimum was three classes, and he had to inform the university beforehand so that they could notify the students before the date of the class.
Alex couldn’t decide who would attend his class so any student from any year could attend. Of course, to avoid the hall from being crowded, there would be a passage fee and only those who paid would be allowed to attend his class.
This would also be his source of income at the university as unlike normal instructors, honorary instructors weren’t paid salaries and only earned from the passage fee from students who attended their classes.
Aside from that, Mr Chen wasn’t required to do anything else for the Magic University. As for the privileges, one was status.
Being an honorary instructor of a Magic University such as Brandvel Magic University wasn’t something to overlook and even people from the Union would have to show some respect for you.
Another thing was access to most parts of the Magic University, such as the library, research centres, and other places that even normal instructors wouldn’t be allowed to enter.
Of course, there would be limits to how long one could stay or what one could do inside these places.
Lastly, if an honorary instructor finds themselves in some sticky situations, they could always ask the Magic University for help and the Magic University would respond as quickly as possible.
After listening to Vice Dean Hannah, Alex felt that it wasn’t a bad deal and accepted it. The terms of teaching three classes every three months were manageable for him.
The only problem was, what was he going to teach these students?
After giving Mr Chen the badge, vice dean Hannah stated that if he wanted, she could get an instructor to come and show him around the Magic University so he could familiarise himself with the place.
Since Alex had nothing else to do at the moment, he agreed. Vice Dean Hannah proceeded to call for an instructor and the person soon arrived at the office.
Surprisingly, it was Julius!
Julius was stunned when he saw Mr Chen in the Vice Dean’s office, he even forgot to ask why he had been called.
“I learned that both of you are already acquainted so it should be easier for you to communicate with each other.” Vice Dean Hannah said softly before looking at Julius.
“Instructor Julius, Mr Chen has agreed to become an honorary instructor of our university and has received the honorary instructor badge, please show him around the university.” She said with a smile.
“Ah, of course. Mr Chen, please come with me.” Julius came back to his senses and quickly asked Mr Chen to follow him.
Alex nodded at Vice Dean Hannah one more time before following Julius out of the office.
On the way to show Mr Chen around the university, Julius tried initiating a conversation.
Mostly about how Mr Chen had been recently and if he needed help with anything that Julius could handle for him.
Alex didn’t want to give a cold shoulder and responded casually, he even asked about Alex and Ellie.
He said that he learned that the kid from Balon City had gotten into this Magiv University thanks to Julius and Ellie.
Mr Chen commended Julius for having good eyes. He praised Alex as a rare talent and he would have even taken him in as his personal student if not for the fact that he was currently travelling about a lot and couldn’t teach anyone right now.
Julius was pleased to hear this, and he proceeded to praise Alex to Mr Chen. Saying that Alex had been very diligent since he got into the Magic University and had even come in first during their most recent assessment.
Alex felt good hearing this from Julius. He told the man to look after Alex and make sure he didn’t get into trouble.
Although it was just a casual remark, Alex knew that Julius would take those words very seriously.
While walking around the Magic University, they came across some other instructors and Julius didn’t fail to introduce them to Mr Chen.
Alex got to meet more instructors who were in charge of teaching higher-class students; he also met some of the instructors who taught first-year students, such as himself.
Although he was a bit disappointed that he didn’t get to see Ellie, he continued to follow Julius. They reached places where he usually wouldn’t be allowed to go as a student and a first-year student at that, Alex got to see a wider view of the university.
After a while, they were finally done with their tour.
“So, Mr Chen, when would you like to hold your first class?” Julius asked.
Alex didn’t reply immediately and gave it some thought. After a few seconds, Alex gave his response.
“Tomorrow,”
Julius “…”
“Umm, Mr Chen. I didn’t quite get that.” Julius said softly.
“I said I’ll hold my first class tomorrow,” Alex repeated, he paused and then continued. “In fact, I’ll hold my three classes for the next three days.”
Julius felt slightly dizzy, Mr Chen’s date was too abrupt. But who was he to complain?
“I understand, I’ll inform the others right away and have them notify the students,” Julius said, he was about to leave when Alex stopped him.
“Is there a problem?” Julius asked.
“What do you think I should teach tomorrow?” Alex asked.
Julius “…”
‘You picked a date so abruptly and you don’t even know what you’re going to teach? What am I supposed to suggest?’
“You don’t know?” Alex asked after seeing Julius’s blank expression.
“Ahem, Mr Chen. You’re a knowledgeable mage who has seen a lot and experienced a lot of things. You can just share one of your many experiences with the students. I believe they’ll be interested in listening to your stories.” Julius said after calming himself.
Alex “…”
‘When did I say I was a knowledgeable mage who has experienced a lot of things? Sigh, it’s no use discussing it with him.’ Alex thought to himself.
“I’ll be leaving now, I’ll come back tomorrow,” Alex said before disappearing, he didn’t wait for Julius to respond.
Julius stared at the space where Mr Chen had been standing just a few moments ago with a stunned expression. He remained like that for some seconds before coming to his senses and rushing off.
