Chapter 245: Home
After keeping his phone away, Alex was about to leave and head back to Balon City when he suddenly remembered something. Turning his magic scooter back on, he steered deeper into the university.
Some time later, Alex arrived at the vault.
The two men were still seated in front of the large gates, meditating. Their eyes slowly opened as Alex approached, their gazes settling on him.
They gave him questioning looks but said nothing. Alex didn’t speak either; he quietly brought out the second vault entry token in his possession.
The two were already aware that Alex had obtained two entrance tokens thanks to Ellie’s help, so they didn’t question him and simply proceeded to open the gates. Alex handed the token over before stepping inside.
Walking through the long corridor, Alex quickly reached the first hall of the vault.
Having visited before and scanned almost all of the items, he already knew exactly what he wanted and where to find it.
Without wasting any time, he made his way to the second hall and soon stood before a beautiful golden bracelet with inscriptions that glowed faintly when exposed to mana.
Alex still remembered the information about this bracelet from his last visit. It was a level 4 protective magic item with abilities similar to the twin trinity bracelets he had bought for his parents at the auction.
This bracelet automatically defended its wearer from attacks and could also strike back. As a level 4 item, its power was equivalent to that of a Grand Archmage—or a Divine-rank beast.
But that wasn’t all. Unlike the trinity bracelets, which only teleported their wearer to a nearby location when in danger, this one allowed its user to choose their destination. The distance it could cover was remarkable—almost equal to how far Alex could travel with a single Blink spell.
“This one will do,” Alex murmured, taking the bracelet from the top of the floating pillar before turning to leave.
Once outside, the two men asked him to display the item he had collected, as usual. After seeing the bracelet, both nodded approvingly.
“It’s a great pick,” one of them said.
Alex thanked them for the compliment before leaving.
Before starting his journey back to Balon City, he returned to his apartment to change out of his uniform. On his way, he came across the old mage, Harold, and informed him that he would be away for some time.
Only after that did Alex depart from the capital. He didn’t use normal means of transportation—it would take far too long. Instead, he found a quiet place, activated Void Gate, and blinked away.
Time passed quickly as Alex journeyed back to Balon City at full speed, ignoring everything else along the way. By nightfall, he arrived and headed straight for his family’s mansion.
Since it was already late, Alex knew everyone at the shop would have gone home, so he didn’t bother stopping by.
On his way to the mansion, he took out his phone and informed his parents that he had arrived in Balon City and was heading home.
The news surprised Zoran and Freda—they hadn’t expected Alex to arrive just a day after saying he would come. Brandvel City was far away and normally required days of travel.
Even so, they were overjoyed that their son had returned safely and went to wait for him at the mansion gates.
Alex arrived some time later and was let into the mansion, his mother welcomed him with a big hug while Zoran patted him on his shoulder.
“You should have informed me earlier that you would arrive today, I would have prepared something special for you,” Freda complained. She thought that Alex would not reach Balon City until two or three days later at most so she didn’t get the chance to make a welcome home delicacy for him.
“It’s fine, I didn’t know I would arrive so early either. I actually met a powerful mage with a magic beast who was passing through this way and he offered to drop me on his way.
Besides, your meals are always special.” Alex explained with a warm smile. He really missed his family.
Even though they talked a lot over the phone, seeing them again felt different.
Freda smiled deeply after hearing Alex’s words, her heart felt warm and she urged him to come inside and eat first.
“A random mage? You shouldn’t do that again, it might be dangerous if it’s someone with bad intentions.” Zoran commented with a serious expression.
Alex chuckled and said it was fine, he said that the mage was an instructor at the Magic University.
“If he’s an instructor, then it’s fine. It was quite kind of him to help you get here.” Zoran stated as they walked into the house.
“Big brother!” Emily was already waiting for Alex inside, along with Alicia. The instant her eyes landed on him, the girl bolted towards him and dove into his arm.
Alex was quick to catch and hug her back.
“You’ve grown taller,” Alex said playfully.
“Hehe, I’ve been eating all your shares during breakfast and dinner while you were at the university,” Emily said while giggling, she was still hugging Alex.
Alex just smiled before looking toward Alicia. Her black hair had grown longer and Alex could feel that she had grown stronger as well. He smiled at her after observing her, the windrend’s human form was slowly changing from a teenager to a beautiful young woman.
Alicia saw Alex smiling at her and quickly looked away, her cheeks turning red as her mind created several thoughts on the spot.
“All right, that’s enough hugging your brother. Come help me set up the table for dinner.” Freda voiced out and dragged Emily and Alicia to the kitchen that was right next to the dining room.
The family ate together while chatting. The chat was mostly Alex answering questions about the university and how he was coping.
Even though they already knew most of these things since Alex had already talked about them over the phone, they still asked again.
Then came the topic of how Alex was here. Although they missed him and were happy to see him, they weren’t in support of him skipping classes.
Alex then explained about the three months assessment and the rewards. Zoran and Freda were already aware of the three months assessment in the Magic university thanks to Alex.
This added to their shock when they learned that Alex had come in first place out of hundreds of students.
“As expected of my big brother,” Emily said with a prideful tone while Zoran smiled silently in satisfaction.
Freda’s response was just as warm as theirs.
“That means you can stay a few more days before going back,” Zoran stated and Alex nodded in agreement.
“Just a few days? But it’s too soon!” Emily grumbled, her cute face pouting.
“It can’t be helped, he has to get back on time. Don’t worry, he’ll visit again or we can go visit him during your holidays.” Zoran stretched out and rubbed Emily’s hair affectionately.
“That reminds me, I got you something,” Alex announced and said how he had used his reward for coming first place to get Emily a magic item.
“Really? Let me see!” Emily’s mood instantly improved and she stared at Alex with eyes filled with anticipation.
“Tada! A grade 4 magic bracelet,” Alex said as he waved his had and the golden bracelet appeared on his fingers.
