Chapter 233: In need of funds
“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Alex said with an apologetic smile after coming out of the corridor.
Ellie stared at him with a big smile. She had been so worried that she almost jumped on Alex after he came out, but held herself back; they were in public right now.
“What kept you so long, you didn’t find a magic item that you liked?” Ellie asked, and the two men stared at Alex in silence.
“Hmm, I did find a magic item that I liked, it just took me some time to find it and some more time for it to accept me. That’s why I took so long,” Alex replied.
The expressions on the faces of the two men finally changed after they heard Alex say that the magic items accepted him.
“Kid, what magic item did you get? Show us.” One of them said with a serious expression.
“Oh, it’s a pair of boots for movement,” Alex said, the next moment, the sky boots appeared on Alex’s feet. The purple lightning markings on the sides had turned black.
The two men’s eyes widened with shock upon seeing the sky boots on Alex’s feet, they were unable to speak for a few seconds.
Ellie, too, was shocked to see the grade five magic boots on Alex’s feet, so he really did ignore their warnings!
It took the men some time to recover, but their shocked faces didn’t reverse yet; they were only now able to speak.
“Kid, how did you manage to get this magic item? What happened to the soul of the elemental spirit?” One of them asked.
Alex replied and said that the soul of the panther had liked him after seeing him and agreed to become his magic item.
The two men “…”
What sort of bullshit was that? Elemental spirits were proud creatures that looked down on even their own kind, they wouldn’t even agree to be the magic items of a Saint rank mage and would rather fight to the bitter end, often ending in mutual destruction and the loss of a grade 5 magic item.
But this kid was trying to make them believe that he got the sky boots just because the elemental spirit liked him and agreed?
He was just a Core mage, the elemental spirit should despise him more!
But looking at Alex’s innocent face, they couldn’t think of any other possibilities of this happening. He definitely couldn’t have forcefully subdued the elemental spirit so what he said must be the truth.
‘How lucky,’
Both men had the same thought.
“That’s all right. You’re lucky to have gotten a grade 5 magic item. Work hard, and you’ll be able to get more use out of it as you get stronger. Right now, it’s no different from giving a kid a bazooka with such magic items in your hands.
Its true value will only show after you get stronger.”
After saying that, they asked Alex and Ellie to leave while they proceeded to close the gates.
“I didn’t expect you’ll be able to get a grade 5 magic item, congratulations. But don’t pull such a move again, it’s too dangerous.” Ellie said to Alex as they walked.
“I understand,” Alex nodded but he had a sly grin on his face, he gazed into his soul sea.
Amidst the endless sea of mana and stars, a pair of boots floated quietly in the corner.
After Alex and Ellie left, the two men used the formations on the gates to close them, they then returned to absorbing mana.
Just a few seconds after the two of them resumed training, they opened their eyes at the same time and stared at each other.
“Weren’t the markings on the sky boots purple? Why were they black earlier?” They echoed at the same time.
…
At this moment, Alex and Ellie had arrived at the dorm section.
After saying that he would use the second vault token at a later date and that he had other things to do, Ellie left to attend to other matters as well.
Alex now knew what to do when he needed to use the second vault entrance token so she didn’t need to go with him next time.
Alex went to his room after that, all his items were in his storage ring so he didn’t need to park; he didn’t even know why he came here.
Anyways, since he was here, Alex decided to check out the file that he needed to submit for his one week leave.
He saw that the things that he needed to fill were the classes that he was taking and the names of the instructors teaching those classes, he would also need to fill the date that he would be leaving and when he would be returning.
The one week leave didn’t include weekends so if Alex left on a Monday, he was to be present in classes on Wednesday of the following week.
This was actually a surprise to Alex and he felt that it was nice.
After checking the file, Alex kept it back and prepared to leave. He didn’t use Void Walk like when he usually sneaked out of the university, instead, he rode his magic scooter to the gate.
After showing his student ID, he was allowed to go out. Also also met some students going out as well, he obviously wasn’t the only one who wanted to live off campus.
After coming out, Alex kept his magic scooter in his storage ring and stopped a cab to take him to the Union Core center.
He planned to go sell some items and mana cores so that he could have some funds on him as Alex, he hadn’t started transferring the money that he earned as Mr Chen to his personal account yet and couldn’t go around using the Union cards to make payment.
Those cards were only given to a few people and the Union would obviously keep records, he didn’t want to be invited for questioning.
Arriving at the Union Core center, Alex joined a queue that was moving quickly, it was soon his turn.
“Good day, how may we help you?” The young man sitting behind the counter said with a professional smile.
Alex pulled out his explorer id as Alex Zoran and said that he wanted to sell some items in his possession.
The face of the young man didn’t change after seeing that Alex was a Core rank mage who had only become an explorer last year, he asked Alex to go sit down and wait and someone would come to attend to him shortly.
Alex was impressed by the attitude of the workers here. Back in Balon City, the receptionist would definitely start looking at him with disdain after finding out that he was a Core mage.
“Ok,” Alex said before leaving the queue and went to sit in the waiting area.
Less than a minute later, a young woman who was at the Master mage rank walked in.
“Alex Zoran?” She called out.
“Here,” Alex voiced out and stood up.
“Come with me,” she said after taking a short look at Alex, then turned around and walked away, Alex quickly followed her.
“So you want to sell something to us?” She asked and Alex nodded.
“Since you aren’t an explorer of the Union branch where you registered, you should know that whatever you sell will have a compulsory charge of 10% and a service fee of 15% which would be deducted before you’re paid your balance.” She explained.
“Yes,” Alex replied, he didn’t really care about the charges.
“By the way, what do you want to sell? The woman asked.
“Two grade 5 mana cores and some grade 2 and grade 1 magic items,” Alex stated.
The woman “…”
