Chapter 231: Picking a magic item
“Hello, seniors, sorry to disturb your training,” Ellie said as she approached the two men. Alex followed behind her.
Both men opened their eyes at the same time, their deep gaze landing on Ellie and Alex.
“Ellie, what is it?” One of them asked, his voice was emotionless and he didn’t seem annoyed by their presence.
“A student needs to enter the vault and claim the reward for first place,” Ellie explained. The eyes of the two men moved toward Alex after they heard Ellie’s words, but their eyes didn’t reveal any emotions, so Alex couldn’t tell what they were thinking.
After staring at Alex for a bit, they both stood up without saying a word and walked closer to the two large gates. Both of them then proceeded to place their palms on the formations that were written on the gates before releasing their mana into them.
The next moment, the gates lit up with bright golden light before parting open and revealing a large corridor with an enormous hall at the end.
After the gates opened, the two men turned to face Alex.
“There are a lot of high-level magic items inside the vault, but I’ll advise you to know your limit and not go beyond what you can control. High-grade magic items often possess the souls of the magic beast from which they were made, and if you aren’t strong enough, they can destroy your soul sea.
Since you’re a Core mage, I advise you to stick to grade 2 magic items. Don’t worry, there are hundreds of trade 2 magic items that you’ll find appealing.” One of the men said to Alex, and the other then added that the gates would remain open until Alex came out, so he should go in alone.
Apparently, not everyone was allowed to enter the vault casually; even Ellie wasn’t allowed to go in with him.
Alex nodded after listening to their instructions, a vault entrance token was taken from him before Alex walked into the large corridor.
The walls of the corridor looked like it was made of smooth marble stones that almost mirrored Alex’s reflection as he walked. After walking for a few seconds, Alex left the corridor and arrived at the large hall that could be seen from outside.
Only after arriving here did Alex realise that this hall was just the first room inside the vault, he could see three other corridors that led to other halls from where he stood.
Regardless, this hall was filled with different magic items; there were hundreds of them!
Some were hung on the walls, some were placed on glass displays, while others floated above short pillars with glowing formations.
At a glance, Alex could tell that the magic items in this hall were of great quality and weren’t the type that could easily be found outside. But even then, there were only grade 1 and grade 2 magic items here.
Alex had no interest in magic items of such high grades; the only use they had for him was to fetch him more money after he sold them.
So after looking around for a bit, Alex moved toward another corridor and arrived at another hall.
Just like the first hall, this one was filled with magic items as well and the strength of the magic items also increased to grade 2 and grade 3.
Alex still wasn’t interested and went to check out the next hall. This hall didn’t have any corridors so Alex had to return to the first hall before taking a different corridor.
He decided to skip the second corridor and went straight to the third corridor which led to the last hall.
Upon arrival, Alex was surprised to see that the magic items inside this hall were very few. They didn’t number up to fifty despite how large the hall was.
No magic items were hung on the walls like the previous two halls that Alex had been to. Instead, each magic item remained afloat above pillars that were placed in a circular pattern.
More importantly, all of these magic items were grade 5 magic items! Alex’s eyes lit up after discovering this.
Fifty grade 5 magic items, that was equivalent to fifty calamity rank magic beasts or fifty Sorcerer rank mage!
These could definitely be useful to him, sad that he could only take one.
“That isn’t a problem, I’ll just need to get first place a few more times and I’ll be able to get more magic items!” Alex mumbled to himself with an excited smile as his eyes roamed the hall.
Something caught his eyes at this moment, it was a pillar that was located at the center of the hall.
Above it, a strange object that looked like a void rock remained afloat. It had the same appearance as a void rock and Alex could feel the mana trapped inside it.
The only difference it had compared to a void rock was that it was bigger and shaped like a book.
“What is this?” Alex mumbled to himself, curious.
He thought of using the all-knowing mask but thinking of the formations on the roof, he held back.
He didn’t know if any of those formations were image-capturing formations, like a security camera.
It would be problematic if someone were spying on him. In the end, Alex gave up on knowing what the thing was.
It wasn’t a magic item anyway so it was none of his business.
He returned to checking out the rest of the magic items in the hall.
Alex arrived in front of the first item, which was a magic item that looked like a blue coat with glowing formations written all over it.
“What could this be?” Alex muttered as he stretched out his left hand to feel the coat. The moment his fingers crossed the tip of the pillar that the coat was floating above, words appeared in front of him.
…..
(Resilient Coat: Grade five defensive magic item crafted with the soul of a blue earth turtle, extremely sturdy and compatible with the earth element.
It can be used by anyone, but its defensive capability will increase if the user is an earth mage.)
…
“Oh, so that’s how it works.”
After finding out how to know what the items above the pillars were, Alex went around checking out the rest of the magic items.
Before checking just a few, Alex found one that he really liked.
In front of Alex, a pair of leather boots with purple lightning patterns drawn on their sides floated above a pillar. After Alex moved his hand close to the pillar, information on the boots appeared.
….
(Sky boots: grade five magic item crafted from the soul of a lightning elemental spirit. Greatly increases the movement speed of the user and is compatible with the lightning element.
It can be used by anyone but its speed attribute is greatly enhanced if the user is a lightning mage.)
…..
“This is perfect!” Alex exclaimed after reading the information about the boots, he just happened to have the lightning element and an evolved one at that.
Alex was already thinking of several instances where this magic item would be of extreme use to him.
“I choose you,” Alex declared the next moment as he directly grabbed the boots off the top of the pillar.
However, the moment his hands touched the boots, his surroundings changed.
