Chapter 230: Two vault tokens
“I already talked about the value of a grade five mana core in one of my classes so I shouldn’t need to remind you of how much mana is stored inside a single one. If used well, the result will be satisfying.” Ellie added but noticed that Alex was silent and had a blank expression on his face.
“Is there a problem?” She asked.
“Not really, just that…is there a way that I can swap the mana room reward for something else? Maybe a second magic item?” Alex asked.
Ellie was stunned, then a confused expression formed on her face before turning into one of disbelief.
“Why would you do that? Don’t you know how valuable a mana room is? The formation inside can easily speed up your growth speed by several times, helping you achieve the result of a year in a week or a few days!? Ellie snapped like a paranoid mother.
“No, no, of course I know how good a mana room is. Just that, my soul sea has a problem and being in a place with so much mana might not be good for me. You should know that I was stuck in the apprentice mage rank for four years and recently just broke through to the Core rank after managing to enter the Adept mage rank.
My soul sea is still recovering, so absorbing too much mana at the same time might not be a good thing. The mana cores should be enough for me.” Alex explained.
After listening to Alex’s explanation, Ellie fell silent, her eyes looking thoughtful.
After some seconds of thinking, she opened her mouth and said,
“That makes sense, entering a mana room right now might cause more harm than good.
Normally, an entrance token would be given to you, which you will present to the people guarding the vaults and mana room. When you want to use it, you’re only allowed to use the vault entrance token once, and it will be retrieved upon exiting the vault.
As for the mana room token, you’re to return it after a week.
Since you don’t want to use the mana room, I can help you talk to the Vice Dean if she can exchange it for a second vault token.”
Alex’s eyes lit up when he heard this.
“Really, it can be exchanged?!” He asked, pleasantly surprised.
“Yes, but only if the Vice Dean agrees,” Ellie nodded.
Alex thanked Ellie, extremely excited about the news; he felt like hugging Ellie and giving her a peck on the face, but he didn’t do it.
“That’s enough, come with me,” Ellie said before leading Alex to go look for Vice Dean Hannah.
They left the lecture building and headed for the registration building.
After some time, the two of them arrived at the office of the Vice Dean. Hannah’s aged voice called for them to come in the moment they arrived in front of the door, so they went in.
“Ellie, how are you?” Vice Dean Hannah raised her gaze from the file in her hand and looked at Ellie and Alex after they entered the office.
“I’m fine, grandaunt, how are you?” Ellie replied with a bright smile.
Alex “…”
Grandaunt? So the Dean was Ellie’s grandfather and the Vice Dean is her grandaunt? Is Brandvel Magic University a family business?!
“Why have you come to look for me?” Vice Dean Hannah smiled.
“It’s about the ranking for first-year students. This is Alex, the student we met at Balon City. He came in first place and I’ve brought him to receive his reward.” Ellie explained while gesturing at Alex.
“Oh, interesting. It’s nice to meet you, young Alex. Your family sure must be proud of how well you’re doing here.” Vice Dean Hannah shifted her gaze to Alex, a kind smile on her face.
“Thank you, it’s an honour to meet you again,” Alex said while bowing slightly.
Vice Dean Hannah nodded, satisfied by Alex’s attitude. He was calm and respectful.
“If I should remember correctly, the rewards for first place are two grade five mana cores, one vault entrance token, a mana room entrance token, and one week leave permit, right?” She stated.
“There’s one thing,” Ellie voiced out at this moment.
“Hmm, what is it?” Vice Dean Hannah inquired.
Ellie then went on to explain Alex’s situation and asked if his mana room entrance token could be exchanged for a second vault entrance token.
“So that’s how it is. Well, since you came with him, then it must be serious so why not?” Vice Dean Hannah said with a small laugh before waving one of her hands.
A few items appeared in mid-air and floated over to Alex. There were two mana cores, two identical tokens, and a file.
Alex received the items after they arrived in front of him. He could feel the vast amount of mana stored inside the two mana cores even before touching them.
The two identical tokens must be the vault tokens, as for the file, Alex looked at Vice Dean Hannah for an explanation.
“That file is your one-week leave permit. Fill it and submit it at the registration hall when you want to use it. Your instructors would be informed right after so you won’t have to worry about your attendance being affected, just make sure to return after a week.” Vice Dean Hannah noticed Alex’s gaze and explained the use of the file to him.
“I understand, thank you,” Alex said with a subtle nod.
“Good, you can leave now. Ellie can take you to the vault so you can get your magic items. Of course, you can decide not to go now and take more time to think about what you want.
If you go to the vault, you must use a token upon entry; the choice is yours.”
After thanking the Vice Dean, Alex and Ellie left the office and made their way out of the registration building.
“So, do you want to go to the vault now or do you want to take some time to think about it?” Ellie asked after they arrived outside the registration building.
Alex thought for a bit before deciding to go to the vault and use one token first. This would also help him check out the items in the vault so that he could decide what to use the second token for.
If the magic items in the vault were not going to be useful to him, he could pick something that would fetch him good money after he sold it.
The duo headed for the vault. Even with his magic scooter, it took Alex seven minutes to arrive at the vault, Ellie was already waiting for him there.
The vault was a massive building located in the back area of the university grounds. It had two large metal-looking doors with formations on them, and two men in casual clothes could be seen in front of the gates.
They sat in cross-legged positions and the mana in the surroundings was rushing into their bodies.
Alex was stunned after looking at the two men, they were both at the Sage mage rank!
“Come with me,” Ellie said to Alex before walking towards the two men.
“Hello seniors, sorry to disturb your training.”
