Chapter 229: Rewards
Hearing Eric’s voice, Alex’s eyes flew to the third name on the list. Indeed, Eric Osworth was in third place with 590 points!
Alex was impressed; the kid was only ten points away from earning a full mark, just like him.
“That’s great, your sister definitely won’t smack you when she finds out about this,” Alex said jokingly, and Eric chuckled in response, with his full set of teeth showing.
Alex moved his gaze back to the ranking list after saying that. If Eric was in third place with 590 points, then who was in second place?
The next moment, Alex saw what he was looking for. The second name on the list was Roseline Dorman, a name Alex didn’t know, and she had 598 points!
Alex “…”
He was shocked to see that someone else had scored so high without any cheats. Unlike him who was a Saint rank mage and could easily remember anything he saw, the other students were not like that.
‘The magic university is truly filled with bright minds,’ Alex thought to himself before continuing to look at the rest of the ranking.
There were lots of students who had scored above 500 points. This was truly an impressive feat, but Alex guessed that it was normal considering their backgrounds; not all of them were from small cities like him.
A few more minutes passed as more students searched for their names on the ranking.
Due to nervousness, some students didn’t find their name after searching the first time and had to recheck it a second and even a third time.
Soon enough, excited voices started to rise from different points in the hall. Likewise, sighs of defeat and disappointment were also heard after those who weren’t on the ranking realised that they didn’t make it.
The instructors allowed the students to be noisy for a few minutes before telling them to quiet down. Another speech was given where the students were encouraged to work harder while waiting for the next assessment while those who had made it into the ranking were told to locate any instructor after learning hours for more instructions on how to get their rewards.
After this was said, the students were dismissed and told to head to their lecture halls and to get ready for the day’s class.
The students started to pour out of the orientation hall. Since they had the same class this morning, Alex and Eric walked together.
“You’re really something, to think you’ll get a full score; I don’t think such a thing has happened for a long time,” Eric said to Alex, he moved his upper body closer and whispered.
“Are you sure that you didn’t cheat? The questions weren’t so easy, come on, tell me your secret.”
Alex’s lips twitched, he was about to scold the boy when a cold female voice sounded from behind them.
“He wouldn’t have gotten the chance to cheat and would have been expelled instantly if he attempted to, the instructors are Archmages and can’t be deceived by a Core rank mage.”
Alex and Eric stopped walking, and they turned around to look at the owner of the voice.
Behind them was a pretty young woman who seemed to be around the same age as Alex. She had long brown hair that fell naturally and matched her eyes, her blue and white uniforms perfectly outlining her curves.
She was a top-tier beauty, but Alex felt that she lost to Ellie in several departments.
Also, she was an Expert rank mage.
“You are?” Eric asked while Alex stared at the girl with a calm look.
She equally returned a calm look, her eyes were expressionless and her posture was straight.
“I’m Roseline Dorman, a first-year student just like you.” She replied.
‘Oh, she’s the one with 598 points, why is she here though?’ Alex thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Eric’s eyes flashed after learning the other party’s name and he immediately whispered to Alex.
“Brother, run quickly! She must be upset that she lost to you by just 2 points and has come to take revenge. Go look for an instructor while I hold her back, hurry!” After saying this to Alex, Eric stepped forward and took a stance.
This caused the surrounding students to look at them. Alex facepalmed, what was this kid doing?
Roseline’s expression didn’t change, even though many eyes were on them and she had heard Eric’s words; she remained calm and walked towards the duo.
“I didn’t expect someone to get a full score, I just want to tell you that I won’t come in second place next time…and we can exchange ideas sometimes,” Roseline said before walking past them and moving deeper into the hallway.
Alex “…”
Eric “…”
Was that all she wanted to say? Wasn’t that just another way of asking Alex to be her friend? Maybe she was too shy to ask directly.
Anyways, Alex didn’t care. He didn’t have any intentions of making more friends, and since he would be getting his own place outside the university grounds today, there was less chance of him running into her again.
“Come, let’s go,” Alex said, pulling Eric by the collar.
“Oh ok.”
In Ellie’s general knowledge on mana class, they continued learning from where they stopped; the learning timetable didn’t change so students were still attending the same classes that they had been attending over the last three months.
Hours passed, and Alex was finally done with all of his classes. He immediately went to look for Ellie.
Alex found her after searching for a few minutes, she was still inside the lecture building.
“Congratulations on coming in first place on the ranking, Julius was glad when he learned of it,” Ellie said with a smile upon seeing Alex.
“Thank you, it’s all because the instructors teach us so well,” Alex replied humbly.
“Don’t sell yourself short, you’re the only one who got a perfect score. I was honestly surprised because even those who I thought would get a perfect score didn’t manage to get it, you worked hard.” Ellie said.
“Thank you, that means you’ll go on a date with me, right? You promised to go out with me if I made it into the top ten,” Alex stated.
“Fufufu, of course I remembered what I said. And since you came in first place, I’ll treat you to a nice meal. After all, you can now leave the university grounds anytime you want.” Ellie declared.
Alex “…”
‘I am not sure that we’re talking about the same thing right now, I didn’t think that’s how a date works.’ Alex thought to himself but didn’t say it out loud.
“Enough about that, you’re here for your rewards, right? Since you came in first place, you earned 2 grade 5 mana cores, a week in the mana room, and a week off without your attendance being affected. Also, you can enter the university’s vault and pick any magic item of your choice; as long as you can use it, that is.” Ellie said, she paused for a bit before asking what Alex’s sub stage was.
She could already see that he was at the Core rank but it wasn’t possible to tell one’s substage.
“I’m at the low stage of the Core rank,” Alex replied.
“Hmm, then if you use the grade 5 mana cores inside the mana room, you should be able to reach the peak stage of the Core rank before the next assessment or even enter the Expert mage rank!” Ellie announced.
Alex who was already planning to sell the two mana cores “…”
