Chapter 228: Ranking!
With his experience from crafting spells with the system and after all he had learned from instructor Bree’s classes, crafting an Adept rank spell wasn’t difficult for Alex.
But just to be safe, he decided to do something that he was confident about. Alex took out his pen and started to draw the positions of the stars before linking them, then he got to the explaining part.
The spell that Alex penned down was a degraded version of space vortex, from the Core rank to the Adept rank.
This wasn’t cheating; it was assurance. Alex didn’t want to take any chances with his scores.
……
The week passed in a flash, and the students were finally done with their first three-month assessment.
Alex had continued hunting magic beasts during the week after every exam, but would only stay out for a few hours for certain reasons. Ellie had started coming to check up on him once it was past curfew and around midnight.
She wouldn’t come personally and would rather sweep through his dorm with her mana to see if he was inside his room.
Although Alex wasn’t exactly happy with this, he didn’t do anything about it since it was Ellie.
Besides, he now had over 500k exp points and could finally craft his second Saint rank spell. He decided to wait until the ranking was announced so he could go and get a place outside the university ground; and proceed to craft his spell after that.
It was Monday, the first week of their fourth month since they entered Brandvel Magic University; the ranking should be announced today!
All of the students were eager to find out what the results of the ranking would be. Some were excited while many were nervous.
Regardless, they all woke up very early and got ready for class.
As early as seven in the morning, all of the first-year students were pouring out of their dorm and heading for the lecture building; it looked like a large sea of students in blue and white uniforms.
Alex and Eric were present in this sea of students as well, they rode on their magic scooters and moved in the same direction as the others.
Arriving at the lecture building, they found several instructors waiting for them in front of the building. They were the instructors responsible for teaching the classes available for first years, Ellie, Henry, Bree, and the others were present as well.
Seeing the instructors, the students instinctively stopped and gathered in front of them. The instructors waited a bit for more students to arrive before telling them to gather in the orientation hall within the next ten minutes.
Ten minutes later, hundreds of students had occupied almost all of the seats in the orientation hall and were staring at the instructors standing in front of the hall.
Without wasting time, Henry stepped forward and waved his hand in the air. The next moment, a large transparent screen appeared behind the instructors, taking up that entire part of the hall.
There was nothing on the screen, at least for now. Instructor Henry began to speak.
He first congratulated the students on completing their first three months at the magic university and commended them on how much they had learned within the past three months. Many of them had shown commendable intelligence through the results of their exams and he encouraged them to work even harder as things weren’t going to become easier.
“After the ranking is revealed, all of you who entered the top 300 should look for an instructor who will give you further instructions on how to get your rewards. As for the rest of you who didn’t make it into the ranking, work harder in the next assessment.
And for those who are already on the ranking, I hope you work harder to get a better ranking and don’t just be satisfied with your current position.
Of course you don’t need to work harder if you’re in first place, you can watch as others take your spot and push you back.” Instructor Henry said in a deep tone.
The students immediately started to whisper to one another after hearing the instructor’s words; all of them were waiting for the ranking to appear, and many of them had their fingers crossed.
“Hey, aren’t you nervous about what your rank would be, how are you so calm?” Eric whispered to Alex, they were sitting next to each other.
“No, what’s the use of getting nervous if it can’t change anything?” Alex replied calmly.
Eric blinked at Alex with admiration in his eyes.
“As expected of you, you’re so cool. I just can’t help getting nervous. Although I don’t really care about the rewards for the ranking aside from the rewards for the top 5, my big sister would smack me if I didn’t get a good ranking.” Eric said with a helpless laugh.
Alex stared at the boy with a stunned look.
“You have a big sister?” He asked.
“Yes, she’s a student at this university too,” Eric replied with a proud smile.
Alex was even more shocked, his sister was a student in this magic university? With Eric’s chatty personality, Alex had expected that the kid would talk about such details but it was shocking that he didn’t mention anything about having a sister until now.
‘Or could it be that they didn’t get along? No, if that was the case, Eric wouldn’t talk about her in such a way.’ Alex thought to himself, wondering whether he should ask about the matter or not.
In the end, he decided not to ask. This was Eric’s family matter, and he was an outsider; he shouldn’t be too nosy.
Eric seemed to have noticed Alex’s hesitant expression and chuckled.
“You must be wondering why I haven’t mentioned her or why you haven’t seen her since we entered the university. She’s actually a senior student and is mostly on missions, she’ll definitely come see me once she comes back.”
“Oh, I see,” Alex replied.
At this moment, instructor Henry told the students to keep quiet and pay attention to the giant screen; the ranking was about to appear!
All the students instantly sat up straight and stared at the screen with extreme focus. The next second, hundreds of names appeared on the screen with a burst of blue light; each name had a number behind it.
There were three hundred names in total!
After the names appeared, all of the students began to look for their names on the screen with nervous looks.
Alex did the same; he didn’t look around, and his eyes flew toward the first name at the top.
A smile spread across his lips the next moment after seeing the name in first place.
…..
1/ Alex Zoran, 600 points.
…..
“As it should be,” Alex mumbled to himself, thinking of where he should take Ellie to for their date.
Thinking of Ellie, his eyes moved toward the instructor and he saw her smiling slightly at him.
‘So she’s already aware, I guess it’s normal since she’s an instructor.’ Alex thought to himself while smiling back.
He then looked back at the ranking, wanting to see who the next top five were and what Eric’s ranking was.
But before he could even start searching, Eric grabbed his shoulder and began shaking him.
“Alex, look, look! I’m in third place!” Eric voiced out with excitement.
