Chapter 219: First class. Origin of Mana.
After the papers flew back to the instructors, they disappeared into their storage rings. Vice Dean Hannah resumed speaking.

“Now that you’ve selected what classes you’ll be taking through your first year, you will now head to receive your first lecture.

There are the mixed lecture halls for classes such as general mana and beast knowledge, and then there’s the private lecture hall meant for students with a particular element like the spell structure class and other optional classes.” As Hannah spoke, a few more instructors walked into the hall; they were all at the Archmage rank.

From everything that the Vice Dean said, Alex understood that the mixed lectures and private lectures simply meant that students of different elements could attend one together while the other was to be attended by students with the same element.

For instance, when they had classes on general knowledge of mana, every first-year student would go to the same lecturer hall together regardless of what element they had.

But for spell structure and other optional classes, students with a particular element had to locate the lecture hall that was meant for their element.

In Alex’s case, he would have to head to the lecture hall for the space element whenever he had spell structure classes.

‘Fascinating!’ Alex thought to himself, this meant that he would get to meet others with the space element.

“These will be your main instructors for mixed lectures for the rest of the year, go with them. More information about other lecturer halls will be passed to you later by them.” Vice Dean Hannah said before proceeding to walk off the platform and out of the hall.

Now, it was just the students and instructors left in the hall. The newly arrived instructors went to join Ellie and the others in front; six instructors had arrived.

Joining the first four, there were now a total of ten instructors present.

Ellie stepped forward.

“Your first class will be General knowledge on mana, the first one hundred students should follow me.” She said and threw a wink at Alex who was sitting in front. After saying that, she turned around and walked out of the hall.

Alex blinked, he was in Ellie’s class!

‘Perfect!’

He immediately stood up and walked behind her, the next student also stood up and followed.

Just like that, one hundred students left the hall with Ellie.

After they left, Alex could still hear the voices of the other instructors asking the rest of the students to follow them in a similar fashion.

Under Ellie’s lead, they walked through a large hallway with doors on both sides before finally reaching the lecture hall.

Ellie went in first and the students followed behind her.

The lecture hall was just like a normal classroom that Alex was familiar with. Seats and desks were arranged like steps that curved downward. At the bottom was the teaching area, where a much larger desk and chair were placed, and an enormous, plain white board hung on the wall behind.

The seats were arranged in a way so that every student could clearly see what was going on in the teacher’s area, even those at the back wouldn’t have to worry about their view being blocked by those sitting in front of them.

The seats were also arranged a meter away from each other so that they wouldn’t feel cramped with so many students occupying them.

While the students chose their seats, Ellie took the side stairs and went down to the front of the class which was now her area as the instructor.

Clap!

She clapped her hands gently, making a sound to grab everyone’s attention. The students all fell silent and looked at her.

Seeing them pay attention, Ellie nodded in satisfaction before opening her mouth to speak.

“Once again, welcome to Brandvel Magic University. I’ve already introduced myself but I’ll do it again. I’m Ellie by name and will be your permanent instructor for the General Mana Knowledge class for the rest of the year, and this will be your lecture hall for other mixed classes.

First, let’s take attendance.”

After she was done speaking, a large file appeared in front of Ellie.

“From the first seat, stand up and introduce yourself.” She then said and looked at Alex.

“Alex Zoran,” Alex stood up and said.

Ellie then nodded and asked him to sit, she then moved her gaze to the next student. While she did this, Alex noticed that words appeared on the file in front of her; it was his name!

‘Another formation?’ Alex’s interest was piqued.

For the following minutes, the students all stood up one after another and called their names. A look of surprise appeared on Alex’s face when he heard a familiar name.

“Eric Osworth!”

He couldn’t help turning around to look. Somewhere around the middle section of the seats was Eric in his uniform, the boy grinned widely and waved at Alex when he saw the latter looking at him.

‘So he’s in this class as well.’ Alex thought as he retracted his gaze.

After the last student called their name, Ellie made the file disappear.

She informed the students that attendance would be taken every day and would affect their scores in the three-month assessment, so they shouldn’t think of skipping classes.

Now, it was time for official learning.

Ellie turned to the large white board behind her as she started to speak.

“I believe you all already know a thing or two about mana, let’s do a little review on what you all know.”

As she spoke, words appeared on the board.

ORIGIN OF MANA.

Ellie turned around to face the class after the words appeared on the board.

“What is mana?” She asked the class.

A few students raised their hands, wanting to be the one to answer. Alex didn’t bother, even though he knew the answer; he just sat there.

Ellie picked a student to answer the question.

A young girl of about 18 years stood up and said.

“Mana is the source of magic.”

“Good,” Ellie nodded and told the girl to sit.

She then started speaking again.

“You all already know that mana is the source of magic, it’s what differentiates mages from normal people and the access point to the elements. But, that isn’t all.

Mana isn’t just the source of magic as magic is only a concept of the world we live in. Mana is much more, it is the foundation of our world and not just magic itself…”

Ellie went on to teach, words appeared on the board as she spoke.

The students took out their pens and notebooks and began to take notes of what appeared on the board.

For the following minutes, Ellie explained how mana wasn’t just equal to using magic and being a mage.

Mana was something that involved everything and helped the world to function.

Even ordinary humans made use of mana without them realising it.

Newborn infants would unconsciously make use of mana to strengthen themselves but that didn’t mean that they would become mages.

It was the same thing with magic beasts, how they became magic beasts even though they couldn’t use magic.

Mages were the same. One would originally think that they could only absorb and feel mana after they awakened, this was the concept of magic.

Awaken—mana—magic.

But after listening to Ellie, Alex got a new understanding.

His previous understanding was wrong. No, not wrong, rather, it was incomplete.

The correct idea was mana—awaken—active use—magic!
