Chapter 215: Bringing Zoran to Balon City.
“Of course they are. News about Mr Chen had long reached Brandvel even before William returned, the citizens have nothing but praises for you, Mr Chen.
Your feet of repeatedly causing trouble for the Dark Union have been a satisfying tale to say the least.” The pink-haired woman said as she stood up and walked over to Alex. She extended a hand for a handshake while introducing herself.
“Name’s Maria, chief of this Union Core Centre. It’s an honour to finally meet you, Mr Chen.” She said.
‘So that’s her name.’ Alex thought to himself. He stared at her outstretched hand but didn’t take it.
“Mr Chen,” he said with a nod instead.
William had an awkward expression in the corner when he saw Mr Chen refusing to shake hands with the chief. He wanted to explain things on his behalf but Maria was faster.
“I heard that Mr Chen has a no-touching policy; it seems true.” She said with a smile while withdrawing her hand, she didn’t seem offended by Alex’s action.
Alex didn’t say anything and continued to stare at the woman. William finally stepped in.
He told Maria that since Mr Chen had just arrived, he would like to show him around the premises.
“Go ahead then, that would be good. Maria said as she turned and walked back to sit down.
“Please come with me, Mr Chen.” William turned to Alex and said.
Before they could leave the office, Maria’s voice came from behind them.
“One moment, Mr Chen.”
Alex and William paused, they turned around to look at her.
“Oh, it’s nothing serious. I heard that Mr Chen has a habit of selling many beasts’ corpses. I hope we’ll be having more dealings in the future.
And since you’re also a skilled appraiser and a powerful mage, I hope you don’t mind if I request your help on some matters sometimes.” Maria said with a friendly smile.
“Mm, no problem.” Alex nodded and said. The idea wasn’t bad, and he planned on doing that anyway.
After she said her piece, Alex and William finally left the office.
William waited until they were some distance away from Maria’s office before finally speaking.
He rested his back on the cold wall with a stressed expression.
“Phew, that was a relief. It’s most likely because it was you, Mr Chen.” He said with a tired laugh.
Alex was confused and asked what he meant.
William proceeded to explain that the chief, Maria, was a woman of a fiery temper and was very fond of bounding people with her vines if they offended her.
‘Oh,’ was all Alex could think of. He felt it was only natural for her temper to stay in check since she was dealing with someone potentially stronger than her and could be of great assistance to her in future.
But this made Alex have another thought. He knew that the Core Centre was not the highest level of the Union. A chief of a Core Centre was already at the Sorcerer Mage rank, so wouldn’t a president of an HQ definitely be at the Saint rank?
As he thought, this world couldn’t be simple.
And speaking of selling beast corpses, he recalled that he still had the elemental spirit that he left at the Union branch back in Balon City.
Alex then turned to William and told him that he would be back, after which he disappeared.
William “…”
Just like that?
Meanwhile, Alex appeared outside Brandvel. He spread out his senses and soon found what he was looking for, he disappeared again and appeared several kilometres away from Brandvel City.
He appeared in the center of an official road and a car was speeding towards him. Seeing him suddenly appear in the middle of the road, the driver quickly applied force on the brakes, and the sounds of screeching tyres were heard as the car came to a stop.
The driver of this car was none other than Zoran, who had just begun his journey to return to Balon City after leaving Brandvel.
“Mr Chen?!” Zoran poked his head out through the window beside him, a look of surprise on his face.
He had so many questions on his mind, like why Mr Chen had suddenly appeared and why he was standing in the middle of the road.
Or what if he had hit him by mistake?
Well, hitting Mr Chen would probably cause more damage to the car than the other party.
But considering how much Mr Chen had helped them, he didn’t think it would be right to ask those questions since they might sound rude.
“Zoran, are you returning to Balon City?” Alex walked over and asked.
“Yes, I just dropped Alex at the Brandvel Magic University not long ago and was going back,” Zoran replied, putting the rest of his body back into the car.
“I see. He got into the Brandvel Magic University, not bad. I’ve been in Brandvel for some time now, I’ll help you look after him.” Alex said.
“That would be very kind of you, Mr Chen. I don’t know if we can ever repay you enough.” Zoran said with a gratifying tone.
He knew that Mr Chen had a favourable impression of his son, so having him say he would look after Alex made him feel more at ease.
“There won’t be a need for that,” Alex said before adding that he was on his way to Balon City for some matters and would return to Brandvel soon.
“Then please come in, I’ll bring you to Balon City.” Zoran immediately offered to drive Mr Chen to Balon City, it would be an honour to travel with such a person.
Although Zoran didn’t actively seek to form connections with others, he knew that getting on the good side of someone like Mr Chen would only bring benefits.
Moreover, the mage already showed interest and helped his family, this was the least that he could do in this situation.
“Hmm, that’s not a bad idea but it’ll take days to arrive at Balon City in your car; why don’t I take you to Balon City with me?” Alex said.
“But Mr Chen, you didn’t come with your car” Zoran said, feeling confused.
Or could it be that Mr Chen had a magic item that could take them to Balon City much faster? That wouldn’t be surprising.
But the next moment, he saw Mr Chen place a hand on the hood of his car and then, they disappeared from the road.
Several hours later.
Zoran “…”
He stared at the familiar view of Balon City with eyes devoid of emotion; he had been so shocked that he didn’t know what expression to show at this point.
‘So this is how powerful mages travel.’
After Mr Chen touched his car, Zoran saw the view around him shift faster than he could blink. It had taken them just a couple of hours to return to Balon City from a place that should have taken almost a week!
“I’m off now, take care of yourself,” Alex said before disappearing.
“Sure, Mr Chen. Thank you.” Zoran mumbled with a subconscious tone, his eyes still fixed on the night view of Balon City.
It took him some time to recover before he finally drove home.
