Chapter 213: Shadow element.
From outside, it looked like the formation was only ten meters wide but it was a totally different thing once one came inside. Alex looked at the hundred meters wide clearing in front of him, the three men stood at the extreme edge and stared at him.
Looking around, he could still see the other candidates who were watching him outside but they seemed very far away. It was as if he was back in the arena of the stadium of Balon City and the candidates were watching from the Spector’s stands.
‘A space compression formation maybe?’ Alex thought. He didn’t show much outward reaction to the sudden increase in space which surprised the three men slightly.
Without wasting time, a magic beast appeared in front of Alex.
It was a huge dog beast with large teeth poking from the side of its mouth. Just like the other beasts that had appeared during the test of the rest of the kids, this dog gave the same feeling as the red-eyed bear when Alex first met it.
A common rank beast that was on the verge of becoming a mutated rank beast!
Grrrr!
The dog growled after seeing Alex and immediately charged at him with great ferociousness, wanting to rip him to shreds and down his flesh.
Alex’s eyes remained calm as silver white stars appeared around him and formed two star patterns.
“Space bullets,” Alex mumbled.
A whistling sound rang out as the invisible bullet shot toward the incoming beast.
BAM!
The sound of collision came soon after as the space bullet brutally blew off the head of the dog and blood sprayed into the air. The body of the dog kept running for a few more meters before crashing into the ground, and the ground under its neck was instantly soaked in blood.
The three men finally showed reactions after looking unimpressed throughout the entire test. The yellow-robed man nodded before asking Alex to go out of the formation.
Alex did as he was told, Eric’s name was called as he left.
“Eric Osworth!”
The black haired Eric walked past Alex who was coming out of the barrier.
“That was an awesome display, Alex. Wish me luck too!” He winked at Alex when he walked past him.
Alex stared at him and said good luck as he continued to walk.
After reaching where he had previously stood, Alex turned to watch Eric in the formation.
After entering the formation, Eric showed a shocked expression like a kid who visited his favourite amusement park; he didn’t even try hiding his surprise at the space inside the formation.
Alex was speechless, the kid wasn’t showing any grace, which showed that he was from a big background.
It couldn’t be that Eric was just like him, right?
Not that he cared though.
After Eric entered the formation, a beast appeared in front of him.
It was a lizard beast, similar to the one that the first girl faced for her test.
Immediately after seeing Eric, the lizard roared and charged at him while waving its claws in the air.
In response, Eric’s eyes gleamed with excitement as dark stars appeared around him.
These stars were of a different shade than Alex’s lightning stars after upgrading.
‘The shadow element,’ Alex exclaimed inwardly, Eric was the second person with the shadow element that he had seen.
He looked forward to what he was going to do next.
After summoning the stars, Eric formed two dark star patterns before whispering the name of his spell.
Thanks to his heightened hearing as a Saint rank mage, Alex was able to hear the name of the spell.
“Shadow blades,”
After whispering the name of the spell, a slow burst of dark aura appeared from the two star patterns and condensed into two short shadowy daggers.
The daggers looked like they could disappear into smoke at any moment.
After the daggers formed, Eric grabbed them from the air before taking a stance.
Eric didn’t charge at the lizard immediately and waited for it to get close. After the lizard shortened the distance between them to five meters, Eric suddenly sprang forward.
His speed was stunning and even most Expert rank mages would be unable to react.
This left even Alex stunned, the first thought that came to his mind when he saw Eric’s attack was ‘Martial art technique!’
He saw as Eric wove past the swings of the lizard’s claws before attacking it with his two daggers. The sharpness of the daggers surprised Alex as the head of the beast was easily sliced off and sent flying through the air.
“He’s an Osworth?”
“From the Osworth family, no wonder he’s so strong at a young age.”
Alex heard Whispers from the other candidates while Eric was told to leave the formation.
“How did I do? Impressive right?” Eric asked after reaching Alex’s side, his expression resembled that of a kid who was waiting to get praised for doing well.
“Mm, not bad,” Alex said, glancing at the boy from the corner of his eyes.
‘Looks like he’s from a popular family, and Osworth. Not that I care though.’
Eric was the last candidate to take the test. The formation was closed right after and everyone was told to return to the hall where their parents and guardians were waiting.
The corridor appeared again and the kids started to walk out.
Alex was confused as he watched the kids leave the hall, were they not going to tell them if they passed the test or not?
“Why are you still waiting? Let’s go.” Eric said to Alex when he saw that he wasn’t moving.
“Aren’t we going to know the result of the test?” Alex asked, thinking if he was the only one bothered by this.
“You didn’t know? Those who passed will be directed to the registration hall while the others will be asked to go home when we get back.” Eric explained, slightly surprised that Alex didn’t know this.
He assumed that with Alex’s performance, he should be from a big family in the capital and should already know the university’s procedures.
Alex “…”
Why was this new information?
Without a word, he left the hall with Eric and they took the corridor back to the large hall on the lowest floor.
Coming out, they saw the man sitting in front with a lazy expression. The man just took a glance at them before looking away.
“I’ll see you in class then?” Eric suddenly said to Alex before walking off.
Alex wanted to ask how he was certain that they passed, but ended up not speaking; the result was obvious.
He quickly found Zoran and walked over.
“How was it?” Zoran asked after seeing Alex.
Before Alex could speak, a familiar voice came from beside them.
“Of course, he passed. I was right to have given you the recommendation.”
Both of them turned to look and saw Julius walking over.
“Instructor Julius, good day.” Zoran nodded after seeing the mage.
“Haha, good day to you too. I’ve already been informed of Alex’s performance, come, let me guide you to the registration hall.” Julius said with a laugh.
Zoran and Alex looked at each other before following behind the man.
“So, what do you think of our university, not bad right?” Julius initiated a conversation as they walked.
“Yes, it’s a new experience here,” Alex replied.
“Good, good. By the way, have you by chance heard from Mr Chen since then?” Julius finally revealed his main objective.
