Chapter 212: The test.
Entering the corridor, Alex could tell that he had walked into a kind of formation; he could feel the energy of the formation around him, they were placed all around the walls.
By the time Alex walked thirty seconds into the corridor, he noticed that he was no longer on the lowest floor of the building and had actually entered one of the top floors of the admission building.
After walking some more, Alex reached the end of the corridor and came to a large hall with huge pillars stretching to the ceiling.
He saw other kids around his age and younger in the hall, as well as three men in long robes. The three men stood in the center of the hall while the teenagers stood around them. Alex was able to tell at a glance that those three were the ones in charge of the test.
After arriving, he went to stand in a corner and waited for the test to start.
While waiting, someone walked up to him. It was another test candidate. A kid who looked to be 17 years old, with a handsome face and spiky black hair. His clothes weren’t as expensive-looking as the majority of the kids present, but were definitely of high quality.
The boy was the last to come through the corridor and walked over to Alex because he was the closest.
“Hey, has the test started?” He asked in a whisper.
Alex glanced at the boy through the corner of his eye, feeling reluctant to answer; couldn’t he see that they were still waiting for the test to begin?
“No,” he answered in a low tone.
“Good. I’m Eric, by the way. What’s your name?” The boy asked again, introducing himself as Eric.
“Alex,”
“I see. You don’t seem nervous about the test, you must have had a lot of preparation from your family.” Eric whispered, an honest expression on his face.
Alex frowned slightly, he decided not to respond.
Just when Eric was about to speak again, a dull sound rang through the hall as one of the men hit a rod that had suddenly appeared in their hands on the floor.
Ripples spread through the ground and the corridor that they came through vanished. The hall was now an enclosed space without any exit.
“Be quiet, the test will be starting now!” The man with the rod voiced out, his words echoing through the hall.
Everyone immediately stopped talking and focused on the three of them. The three men were in robes of different colours.
The one with the rod was in a red robe, while the other two were in blue and yellow robes, respectively.
The one in a blue robe stepped forward and began to draw signs with his hands in the air. After some seconds, he released mana from his body and slapped forward.
The signs that he had been drawing in the air suddenly became visible and shot toward the ground.
It was a formation!
Alex was fascinated by this, he watched as the formation landed on the ground and grew larger, covering a space of ten meters around the three men.
While still standing in the middle of the formation, the man in a yellow robe brought out a file and a pen as he began to speak.
He didn’t explain much about the formation and just said that everyone would be called into the formation one at a time for their test.
Alex wondered what type of formation this was. He wasn’t wearing the all-knowing mask, so he couldn’t request information about it; he would have to wait and see.
After he finished explaining, the three men walked to the edge of the formation and called the name of the first candidate.
A young girl with an arrogant expression walked toward the formation. From how she was dressed, one could easily guess that she was from a wealthy background.
After entering the formation, everyone saw a look of shock appear on the girl’s face, easily wiping away her arrogant expression.
“Regardless of which background you’re from, you’ll be destined to suffer in this university if you don’t show any worth. Now, begin!” The man in a blue robe said, hinting at how arrogant the girl looked previously.
After his voice fell, they all saw a magic beast appear in front of the girl in the formation. It was a lizard-type magic beast with the strength of a common rank magic beast.
The beast was twice the height of the girl, and its tail ended with large spikes, which it could use to attack.
Immediately after it appeared, it rushed toward the girl.
Seeing the huge lizard, the girl immediately calmed down, and her eyes changed colour as stars formed around her.
Outside the formation, Alex watched with extreme focus as the girl battled with the lizard.
The girl was a Core mage which he considered impressive since she looked even younger than Eric. As for the lizard, from what Alex could see, it was only slightly weaker than the red-eyed bear when he first met it outside Balon City.
It was definitely not a creature that a Core mage should face. Still, the girl was doing pretty well.
But that wasn’t what bothered Alex though. What he was more concerned about was how they were able to do so many movements inside the ten-meter-wide formation without stepping out, could it be the doing of the formation!
Anyways, he continued to watch. After some time, the girl finally defeated the lizard without getting hurt.
‘Impressive,’ Alex thought to himself. Most Core rank mages back in Balon City would definitely find it difficult to defeat a beast of such strength on their own.
However, the faces of the three men said otherwise. They looked unimpressed as the girl was told to leave the formation, the yellow-robed man wrote something on the file he was holding while calling the name of the next candidate.
Alex “…”
So…did she pass or not? He was curious and wanted to know, but it was obvious that such news wasn’t going to be announced; maybe not yet.
Just like the first girl, the next candidate entered the formation and also wore a look of shock. A magic beast appeared soon after and a fight broke out.
The same thing repeated for the following minutes as the kids were called into the formation and then asked to go out after they defeated the magic beast that appeared.
One thing that Alex noticed was that the magic beasts were definitely real, he just couldn’t tell where they were coming from. Maybe they were being sent here with a different formation?
He was growing more interested in this formation stuff.
After some time, it was Alex’s turn.
“Alex Zoran,” the yellow-robed man called out. Alex silently stepped forward.
“Good luck, Alex!” Eric called out from behind him while pumping his fist in the air.
Alex “…”
Why was this kid acting like they were close?
Alex didn’t respond and walked toward the formation, he entered without pausing and soon understood why all the previous candidates had shown shocked expressions after entering the formation.
The space inside was totally different from what it looked like on the outside.
