Chapter 211: Brandvel Magic University.
The journey to Brandvel took the father and son pair almost a week before they arrived, they were forced to stop at different towns along the way before they finally got to their destination.
Zoran made sure to contact his wife and ask about the kids every night when they stopped at a hotel to rest, they would usually make hours-long calls chatting about each other’s days. Through things, Alex also got to know about the situation in Balon City and was relieved to know that everything was going well.
Finally, after several days’ journey on the road, they reached Brandvel.
The first impression that Alex had after entering the capital city was that it was massive.
Several times bigger than Balon City, he had to release his senses as a Saint rank mage to the maximum just to cover the entire capital.
Another thing he noticed was that there were more powerhouses in Brandvel than in Balon City. This was to be expected, but Alex was still stunned nevertheless. The number of Archmages he sensed exceeded a hundred!
And there were even more auras that were stronger than Archmages, the strongest aura that Alex had sensed was at the Sorcerer Mage rank and there were only ten of such auras.
He couldn’t sense the presence of any Saint rank mage; maybe they weren’t in Brandvel, or they were able to hide their auras from other Saint rank mages.
But Alex knew for sure that a place like Brandvel should have at least one Saint rank mage.
“The capital is really different from other cities,”
Alex heard Zoran exclaim as he drove the car into the city. He looked at what would make his father make such a comment and noticed that it was the Union officers who were stationed on this end of Brandvel.
Even as a human, Zoran was able to tell that these officers were different from the ones who guarded Balon City’s borders.
Indeed, he wasn’t wrong. After taking a glance, Alex saw that they were all Expert rank mages.
To make Expert rank mages guard a border, Brandvel was really different.
They drove in after answering some questions. Since they were new, Zoran had to stop and ask for directions. They were soon pointed in the direction of Brandvel Magic University by someone.
It was the biggest and most popular magic university in the whole City, and everyone knew it; after all, it had the same name as the City.
Zoran thanked the person before driving in the direction he was pointed.
After almost two hours of driving and asking a good number of people, they finally arrived at the huge metal gate of the magic university.
The name of the university floated in the air above the gate with the help of a sort of magic formation, it was impossible to miss it.
The gate was wide open, and a middle-aged man in a brown uniform sat in the outpost built in the corner of the gate. The man approached their car after seeing them.
“Good day, are you here for the admission test?” The man asked after reaching beside the car window, his words were polite.
“Yes please, could you give us directions?” Zoran responded in a similar polite manner.
“Of course, follow this path and take a turn ahead, and you’ll arrive at the admission building. Other people are there so you can’t get lost.” The man said.
“Thank you very much,” Zoran said before driving off.
The inside of the magic university after the gate was incredibly massive as well, so it was likely that one could get lost. Luckily, they knew which path to take and where to turn to.
After driving for another half an hour, they finally reached the admission building.
It was a massive building that was almost the same size as the Union building back in Balon City. Different kinds of cars were packed in the space outside the building, and they could see people walking toward the building with their kids, while others came out.
Zoran drove toward the parking space and parked his car before coming out, Alex came out as well.
They stared at the massive building for a moment before Zoran asked Alex if he was ready, thinking that the boy might be nervous.
“Yes, I’m ready,” Alex replied calmly and they walked toward the building entrance.
As they walked, Alex observed the others who were going in or coming out of the building.
All of them were dressed in expensive fabrics that spoke of their backgrounds. Some of the adults were ordinary humans like Zoran but they obviously weren’t simple people considering how they were dressed.
As for the younger ones who were most likely here for the admission test as well, Alex saw that most of them were at the Core mage rank; some were even at the Expert mage rank already.
‘The saying is indeed true, there’s always someone better out there.’ Alex thought to himself, he remembered these words from a manga he had read in his past life.
And he wasn’t talking about himself, he was referring to those students in Balon City who thought that they were at the pinnacle of talent.
He wondered how shocked they would be if they came here and saw kids who were younger than them but were in the same rank or even stronger than them.
Both of them entered the building and came to a large hall with many seats arranged neatly. A middle-aged man in a long robe sat on a chair with a lazy posture in front; they noticed as people went up to him after entering the hall.
Zoran and Alex also went to meet him.
‘An Archmage? Brandvel is truly different.’ Alex thought to himself after seeing the strength of the middle-aged man. For an Archmage to be in charge of admission, the magic university was truly extraordinary.
After the last parent and child left, Alex and Zoran came up to the middle-aged man.
“Here for admission, pay up first.” The man said with a lack of interest. With a glance, he saw that Alex was only a Core mage; he wasn’t worthy of his special attention.
“Good day, we have a recommendation letter.” Zoran smiled and said politely.
His son would be studying at this university if things went well; he didn’t want to offend a potential instructor, as it might make things difficult for his boy.
The expression on the man’s face instantly changed after hearing Zoran’s words and he sat up straight.
“A recommendation letter? Now that’s surprising, let me see.” He said.
Zoran turned to look at Alex, who, in turn, put his right hand in his pocket but actually took out the purple envelope from his storage ring and handed it over to the man.
The Archmage’s eyes flashed with further surprise, so it was true that they did have a recommendation letter.
He quickly read through it and said.
“Julius, huh? Fine then, you can go sit and wait with the others while the boy goes in. The next round of tests should start soon.” The man said as he pointed at the seats for Zoran.
“Sure,” Zoran said before turning and looking at Alex, “do a good job, son.”
Alex nodded and walked deeper into the building. A corridor was behind the man’s chair, and Alex walked into it.
Meanwhile, a small stone appeared on the man’s palm and he spoke into it.
“Contact Julius, tell him that his letter has arrived.”
