Chapter 208: Elemental spirit.
In the center of this valley, Alex saw a small black rock that was roughly shaped. It was just lying at the bottom of a crater carelessly, but if one observed closely, they would notice that it was drawing the energy of the lightning that struck down and was absorbing it.

The black rock looked fragile yet didn’t disintegrate when struck by lightning directly.

Alex’s eyes gleamed. That was it, the aura that he felt was coming from that rock!

He activated the skill of his mask and directed it at the rock; details about the black rock quickly popped up.

The details were brief, but they gave Alex enough information. This essence stone was just like an elemental fruit!

Alex would be lying if he said he wasn’t excited, he wondered how strong his lightning element would be after absorbing this essence stone.

Without wasting time, Alex moved toward the black rock in the middle of the valley.

He didn’t bother avoiding the lightning that constantly fell from the sky, as they were too weak to do any damage to him, which felt like spells of a Master rank mage at best.

A few seconds later, Alex finally got close to the crater where the essence stone was. But just before he could step into it, something flashed from the corner of his eyes.

Alex instinctively retracted his hand and let the thing fly past him.

Bzzt!

A burst of black lightning flew by in front of him and landed on the other side of the crater, it slid across the ground for a few meters before finally coming to a stop.

Alex was now able to take a closer look at what the black lightning was and he was surprised.

It was a small white-tiger cub looking beast with black lightning covering its body.

The white cub took a striking posture after missing its first charge, its young and inexperienced eyes gazing at Alex while it growled at him.

Alex “…”

He didn’t know what this creature was. He knew that magic beasts were able to use elements like mages but that was after they reached a certain level of strength.

But this white cub was different, the black lightning on its body seemed like a part of it and not as if it was using the element.

If Alex were to describe it, it felt like a second layer of fur; something it was born with.

This was Alex’s first time seeing a magic beast like this. Plus, the cub only showed the strength of a common rank beast, yet its speed just now exceeded that of a mutated rank beast!

More importantly, Alex hadn’t sensed it earlier when it arrived. He was a Saint rank mage for crying out loud!

Alex didn’t like staying in oblivion and immediately used the ability of his mask on the cub, information quickly popped up.

“So it’s an elemental spirit,” Alex mumbled to himself as he moved again and dodged the little tiger’s charge.

He didn’t really know what an elemental spirit was in this world but he had an idea from what he had read in his past life.

Basically, they were creatures with insanely high affinity to a certain element and could easily overpower other beasts of the same rank; some even went as far as beating creatures of higher rank.

To say the least, they were the beast version of system users.

“Sadly, I don’t have the summoning element.” Alex sighed. He could imagine how awesome it would be if he formed a contract with this white tiger, it would be incredible!

Anyways, he could still take the essence stone and upgrade his element but he would need to deal with this elemental spirit first.

Alex moved his body to the side and let the white cub fly past in a blur of black lightning, but before it could fly far, Alex’s hand moved even faster, and he caught it by the neck.

Grrrr!

After it was caught, the tiger cub growled as it struggled to break free but Alex’s grip was like an iron grip. The black lightning around the tiger’s body and its claws were unable to do anything, but it didn’t stop struggling though.

“So stubborn,” Alex mumbled to himself, realising that subduing this aggressive cat like he did with Alicia would be impossible.

Alicia was an intelligent beast and understood what danger meant, she valued life over pride.

This white cub, on the other hand, didn’t have enough intelligence to understand that it should submit to those stronger than it.

And Alex didn’t want to kill it since it would be a waste to kill an elemental spirit. Even though he couldn’t turn it into his contracted beast since he didn’t have the summoning element, he could sell it for a good sum.

Just taking the essence stone and leaving it here was out of the question as well, that was no different from seeing a piece of chicken and giving it away.

And he couldn’t bring it with him back to the city, it would be too complicated.

Alex fell into thought as he stared at the struggling cub in his hand.

Some time later, Alex walked back to the crater and picked up the essence stone.

He could feel the rich lightning energy contained inside, he couldn’t help smiling in satisfaction.

He stored the essence stone in his storage ring before disappearing, he was still holding the little tiger when he disappeared.

Lightning continued to strike from the dark clouds after Alex disappeared.

It took a long time for him to return to Balon City. The place where he had found the essence stone was very far away from Balon City, this was because he had to go very far away just to look for magic beasts to farm exp.

He didn’t even go that far when he led the Void knight away from Balon City previously.

Finally reaching Balon City, Alex used Void Walk to directly enter Clint’s office.

After stepping out of the white space with the struggling cub in hand, Clint immediately noticed them.

His eyes widened when he saw the white tiger cub with black lightning covering its body struggling in Mr Chen’s hand, he could feel the pure lightning energy from the cat.

After all, he was he lightning mage as well.

“Mr Chen, that’s…that’s an elemental spirit!” Clint exclaimed, holding back the urge to ask where Mr Chen found such a precious creature.

“I know that,” Alex replied.

Clint’s face instantly turned serious and he composed himself.

“I apologise, Mr Chen. I didn’t mean to belittle your experience and knowledge, I was just surprised to see one.” Clint said with a sincere tone, thinking that he had offended Mr Chen by stating something so obvious.

‘Actually, I don’t know much about this creature; could you tell me more?’

Alex wanted to ask but at this point, he would have to learn that on his own.

“What do you plan to do with it, Mr Chen?” Clint asked after Mr Chen didn’t reply to his apology.
