Chapter 589: Potential Candidate
Daniel and Kayn were both standing on the deck of the massive ship made of bone, looking at the sea in front of them. Behind them, a middle-aged woman with a scar on her face stood respectfully, and even a bit scared.
Fortunately, she had been lucky enough that the monster spared her life. But in return, he ordered her to take the two of them to the Gulf of Sumer and drop them off at one of the ports in that gulf.
At first, she was shocked and confused. The Gulf of Sumer was an extremely dangerous region, a place where even famous pirates like them didn’t dare to go.
Many people had only heard about how dangerous it was, but she had actually experienced it. It wasn’t something that could be easily explained with words.
The condition of the Gulf of Sumer was like a real apocalypse, as if hell had descended there. Wars that were more terrifying than any other war.
Merciless demons committing genocide, and humans doing things even more horrifying to demons. If it was possible, she truly didn’t want to head toward that gulf.
But she knew that if she showed even the slightest sign of resistance or said “no,” she and her entire crew would be killed instantly, and the whole ship would be turned to ashes.
In that situation, did she really have any choice but to accept? That’s how they ended up in the current situation.
“do you need anything? We have very famous and high-quality bottles of alcohol, or if you’re hungry, I can order the crew to prepare the best seafood dishes for you.” she asked respectfully.
“There’s no need,” Daniel shook his head. Then, as if remembering something, he asked:
“What’s your name?”
“Sir, my name is Veronica,” the Mad Lust Lady, or rather, Veronica, answered, a bit surprised.
“Veronica, there’s no need to be afraid of me. As long as you honestly take us to the gulf, nothing will happen to you or your crew.”
“I understand, sir. Don’t worry, we will reach there as fast as possible.”
“Good. You can go,” Daniel nodded, signaling her to leave.
Veronica nodded, and after saying goodbye, she let out a relieved sigh and left. Just being here, in the presence of the man’s aura, filled her with fear, and she couldn’t feel calm at all.
Even though she could tell the man probably wouldn’t harm her or her crew, the scene of Capitan One-Hand’s death and the destruction of his ship and crew still echoed in her mind and replayed over and over.
“So why did you want her to take us to the gulf? Wouldn’t it have been better if we went by ourselves?” After the woman left, Kayn asked curiously.
He could think of several reasons, but he decided to use this question to start a conversation.
“It’s safer with them. I’m not afraid of any trouble, but I want to get to the gulf as fast as possible, and being on this ship reduces the chance of running into idiots.” Daniel answered simply.
Of course, that wasn’t the only reason. While that reason might have been the biggest one, after meeting the woman, he actually started to like her a bit.
Not emotionally or anything like that, just because he felt Veronica had a lot of potential. Even though she hid it, she had the strength to easily kill the other one, the one called One-Hand.
But for some reason, she had been hiding her power. That alone caught his attention. And after seeing how much she feared death, he realized her fear of death might not be as simple as it appeared.
That’s why he thought she might not be a bad choice to recruit. He was still planning to form an organization, and he already had a few candidates in mind.
And now this woman had become a potential candidate as well. Although it was still too early to be sure, he needed to know her better first.
“Makes sense. With this ship we’ll reach the gulf faster, so it was a good choice. Anyway, I was a bit worried at first, but now that I’ve seen your power, I’m sure we won’t have any problems in the Gulf of Sumer.” Kayn felt it was a reasonable explanation and said that with relief.
“Is the gulf really that dangerous? A friend also told me that until I become a Divine Climber, I should stay away from the Gulf of Sumer.” Daniel raised his eyebrows in surprise.
The more he saw, the more he realized he had underestimated how terrifying the gulf really was. Even when its name was mentioned, he could see real fear in Veronica’s eyes.
He had some idea of what the Gulf of Sumer was supposed to be, but was it really so horrifying that even mentioning it was enough to scare his guild leader?
“More than you can imagine. We don’t need to go into the main conflict zones, but if we did, even with your power, going there would be suicide.”
“How many powerhouse fighters from the two races are in that area that it’s this dangerous?” Daniel asked.
“It’s not just the forces of both sides. It’s the natives themselves. The natives of the gulf went insane because of what the two races did to the region, and now they try to kill both humans and demons like madmen for revenge,” Kayn explained.
“Also, because of the massive massacres the demons committed against the natives in the early days, a huge amount of hatred remained there. That hatred created terrifying monsters and wills that can even kill Divine Climbers.”
“I see.” Daniel nodded.
“Still, with your power, as long as we don’t go into the centers of the gulf, we’ll be safe. Even in this sea, nothing can threaten us,” Kayn added with a smile.
But the moment he finished speaking, the ship started shaking violently, No… it wasn’t just the ship. The entire sea began to tremble.
A powerful storm descended, and the clouds poured rain as if trying to create a flood or a tsunami.
“What’s going on?” Daniel frowned and immediately used his spiritual senses to scan around the ship, especially the depths below. But what he saw shocked him.
“I think from now on you should never open that cursed mouth of yours again.”
“What happened?” But Kayn didn’t need to wait for Daniel’s answer.
Because a massive monster emerged from beneath the sea, a monster with the body of a dragon and a worm-like head filled with thousands of teeth, and it charged directly at the ship to swallow it whole.
