Chapter 583: Troubles Again
“I wasn’t expecting this level of security,” Kayn murmured quietly as they passed through the gates and officially entered the city.

“They’re probably looking for us more than I expected,” Daniel chuckled. He had already assumed Leo would be after him and especially after Ilaris, but it seemed like he had underestimated the situation.

“Now that I think about it, the Elven army attacked this city… but there’s no visible damage. Looks like they rebuilt everything faster than I expected.” Daniel looked around as he said that.

The city hadn’t changed much—in fact, it was practically the same as before. You could say it was simply rebuilt, and the security was about ten times stricter than it was back then.

Just to enter the city, they had to drip a drop of their blood onto some strange device neither of them had ever seen before.

Daniel didn’t know what the device was supposed to do, but he wasn’t worried. Back when he had visited this city, he had hidden his identity perfectly. They shouldn’t be able to identify him.

And even if they did, they didn’t have the strength to stop him from leaving. But to avoid trouble and wasting time, it was better to get out of here as soon as possible.

“We should hurry and leave. My intuition’s telling me something bad might happen,” Kayn said as he looked at him. Daniel nodded, and the two of them headed toward the portal section.

It was about a twenty-minute walk from the city entrance to the teleport portals. They increased their pace so they could get there faster.

Thankfully, compared to before, the place looked much quieter and less crowded. Daniel guessed that because of the war, many people had died and many others had left this place entirely.

Once they arrived at the portal station, they walked up to the portal handler who could send them to their target destination. The price was a bit higher than they expected, but there was no choice but to pay.

“Please wait a bit while I set the portal’s destination. Then you’ll be able to enter,” the handler said as he took the gold coins and walked toward the arrays that made up the portal.

Portals were created in two ways: either through arrays, or by directly tearing open space and creating a spatial channel between two locations.

The first method was mostly used by smaller cities or by people trying to save money, while the second method was used by wealthy families or mostly in large imperial cities.

The reason was simple: creating a spatial channel between two locations was safer, faster, more stable, and had almost no issues.

Not every portal could withstand the presence of very powerful Awakened, and it could malfunction or even collapse.

“You’re not strong enough to collapse this portal, right?” Kayn asked, noticing the same issue and staring at Daniel.

Daniel had completely ignored that possibility because he had forgotten about it. But now that he thought about it, there was a chance it could cause problems.

“I don’t think so. As long as I don’t release my aura or power, there shouldn’t be a problem… right?” Daniel said after a moment of thought.

He hadn’t used portals since reaching his current power level, so he couldn’t say for sure.

“The problem isn’t your aura. It’s the vibrations your body emits. The stronger you are, the stronger those vibrations get. But I don’t think anything below a Divine Climber would cause an issue.”

“Then it should be fine.”

“So… where did this handler go?” Kayn nodded, then frowned. It had already been over a minute since the handler had disappeared and left them standing there.

“I have a bad feeling,” Daniel said, frowning as well. He didn’t know why, but his intuition was warning him again.

However, at that moment, they saw the handler approaching from far away, his face becoming clearer with each step.

Their frown and suspicion faded for a moment—then immediately returned even stronger when they saw his expression.

“Dear customers, I’m sorry. I set the destination correctly, but it seems you won’t be able to use the portals,” the handler said as he approached with a troubled expression.

“And why can’t we use them?” Kayn asked harshly.

Daniel also glanced around after noticing something. The space around them was sealed, which meant they couldn’t take flight or escape.

Even for him, who could normally break the void, it was now impossible.

In simple terms, they were trapped here.

Yet there was no fear or worry on his face. Instead, amusement and playfulness shone deep in his eyes. He seriously didn’t understand why some people kept begging for death.

Even Finn, sitting on his shoulder, let out a low growl. The baby dragon looked irritated.

“Because the two of you need to be questioned,” a firm but calm middle-aged voice rang out behind them before the handler could respond.

They turned around and saw a middle-aged man wearing military clothes, backed by a group of guards. His face was scarred and it looked like he was missing one eye.

But with his remaining eye, he stared at them with authority.

“And can I ask why we need to be questioned?” Daniel asked calmly.

“It’s nothing major. We simply believe you might know some people we’re searching for. It’s possible we’re completely mistaken, and if so, we’ll make sure you’re compensated,” the middle-aged man said. Despite his authoritative tone, he was clearly trying not to escalate the situation.

It seemed he had also sensed the power of the two young men in front of him.

‘Looks like we’re in trouble,’ Kayn said through their mental connection.

‘Don’t worry. The strongest person in this Zone is only a Grand Climber. Nobody here can cause us trouble. The question is whether we force our way out or cooperate.’

‘Which one’s faster?’

‘Naturally, using force.’

‘Then the answer’s obvious.’ Kayn replied.

Daniel smiled, then shifted his attention back to the middle-aged man.

“And what if we don’t want to cooperate?”

The moment his words echoed, the atmosphere turned tense and the temperature dropped. A powerful invisible pressure pressed down on the middle-aged man, making him break into a nervous sweat.

He wanted to speak, but he didn’t dare.

However, just then, a female voice rang out:

“In that case, we won’t have any choice but to force you.”

A dignified young woman in noble clothes approached from behind the guards.

The guards and the middle-aged man immediately kneeled upon seeing her.

And Daniel’s smile widened even more when he saw her. Naturally, this girl was none other than Jasmine, the ruler’s daughter of this Zone, and in a way, an old acquaintance.
