Chapter 573: The Guests
After leaving the guild, he got in his car and drove straight home. Since they were expecting guests that night, he had to return early to help his mother prepare.
When he arrived, he realized that his mother and sisters still hadn’t come back from shopping, and the house was empty. So he decided to spend some time catching up on world news until they returned.
He went over to his laptop and opened the Awakened Association’s online community. After entering his information, he logged into his account, and his personal panel appeared.
He browsed through the major topics of the week and clicked on the global section. But there wasn’t much of interest, no particularly shocking events had happened recently.
Except, of course, for one thing, a meeting that had apparently been held between the major powers of both worlds. A meeting that, coincidentally, discussed an event he himself had participated in.
The case of the auction where a dragon egg had been put up for sale, an event that turned out to be nothing but a trap set by unknown forces.
That incident had caused massive uproar in both worlds. After all, the appearance of a dragon egg, and several Heavenly Kings fighting for it, wasn’t something trivial.
Dragon eggs were considered extremely valuable, arguably one of the greatest treasures in both worlds. But no one ever dared to steal them, since they were protected by dragons themselves.
Yet, during that auction, a dragon egg appeared, and several Heavenly Kings showed up, battling each other to obtain it.
The result? The dragon egg vanished.
Of course, everyone believed that in the end, the egg was reclaimed by the dragon that had appeared at the auction, the same dragon that killed nearly all of the Heavenly Kings present.
The death of so many Heavenly Kings was a devastating blow to the Celestial Domain, severely weakening their overall power.
During the meeting, they discussed the incident in detail and tried to determine who was responsible. In the end, it was revealed that the ones behind it were none other than the Corruption Worshipers.
The entire plan had been orchestrated by them to weaken the Celestial Domain, and they had succeeded spectacularly.
During the same meeting, the Lionheart family also revealed that the Corruption Worshipers had planted numerous spies within their own ranks, even some of their elders had been exposed as traitors.
That revelation sent shockwaves through all the major powers.
If spies existed among the elders of the Lionheart family… who’s to say the same couldn’t be true for them?
That realization made everyone recognize just how dangerous the Corruption Worshipers had become. They concluded that a decisive purge was necessary.
Their concern was right. After all, the elders represented a crucial part of each faction’s power and had access to highly sensitive information.
If some of them were spies, wouldn’t that mean all of them were vulnerable to the Corruption Worshipers?
That was why, once the meeting ended, every organization launched extensive investigations into all of their elders to ensure that no spies were among them.
It was decided that a global hunt order would be issued: all organizations and races were to hunt and kill Corruption Worshipers on sight. Anyone who managed to kill more than a hundred would receive a reward directly from the major powers.
“I’ve already destroyed two of their bases. Shouldn’t I get a reward too?” Daniel muttered to himself, then laughed quietly.
He had probably killed thousands of Corruption Worshipers by now, but back then, he hadn’t known he could get rewarded for it.
‘Well, at least they still think the dragon egg returned to that dragon,’ he exhaled in relief.
Then his attention shifted to the Lionhearts. He thought of his friend, and that girl, Ilaris. He grew curious about how they were doing.
‘I should contact that Parasitic will later and ask about them’ he murmured to himself.
He wasn’t really worried; he had promised to contact him immediately if anything bad happened. Since he hadn’t, it meant everything was fine.
After clearing his thoughts, he heard Alice and Tiana’s voices downstairs, they were finally back. He went down and saw how many things they’d bought.
He helped them bring everything inside and set the bags down near the kitchen corner.
Their mother quickly assigned everyone tasks: cleaning the house and helping her cook. Fortunately, Daniel got the job of cleaning the house.
He sat comfortably on the couch, summoned a few of his Fallen, the ones his family had already met before, and ordered them to clean the house.
Alice, seeing her brother lounging around while others worked, grew irritated and wanted to bite him, but she had to keep helping their mother for now.
Liana planned to prepare a wide variety of dishes and desserts, especially since her friend had mentioned she’d be bringing her younger sister along.
Normally, that would’ve been a lot of work, but with both her daughters helping, it became manageable.
Time passed slowly as the sky darkened, and soon the delicious smell of food filled the entire house, making Daniel and the girls’ mouths water.
“Do we really have to wait until the guests arrive?” Alice grumbled, staring longingly at the dishes, barely holding herself back.
“It’s hard, but we can’t do anything about it,” Tiana sighed.
Daniel had the same thought, especially since their mother had strictly warned them not to touch anything until the guests arrived.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
“Looks like they’re here!” Alice said cheerfully, running to the intercom and pressing the button to open the gate.
All of them, along with Liana, headed toward the entrance to welcome their guests.
There were two of them, one was a stunningly beautiful woman with distinctly foreign features, and behind her stood a young woman about Daniel’s age.
While Liana, Alice, and Tiana warmly greeted them, Daniel’s cold eyes were fixed on the younger woman.
After all, she was none other than Diana.
