Chapter 556: Searching For The God
Daniel, to be sure, used his spiritual senses to examine the Grand Priest’s body once more.

After confirming that his soul was completely destroyed and that he was truly dead, Daniel shifted his attention away.

He calmly returned to the ground and focused on Sophia, who was still sealed. In that condition, she was more or less unconscious.

“Should I release her?” he muttered to himself. It wasn’t like he wanted to keep her trapped in such a state forever.

But he felt it would be better not to release her yet, at least not until he finished his final phase. This way, there would be one less variable to deal with.

He was also worried that Sophia’s third phase might differ from his own in some way and cause unnecessary trouble.

After thinking for a bit, he decided to leave her as she was for now and deal with her later.

Then, he turned his attention to the depths of the ruined temple. If he wasn’t mistaken, the buried god should be there.

But the question was, how was he supposed to enter? There was no visible path. The temple was completely destroyed, and nothing could be seen beneath it.

The other problem was that, for some reason, his spiritual senses couldn’t reach deep into the temple. Something was blocking them.

“Is it over?” a voice called from afar. He didn’t need to turn his head to know who it was.

“Yeah, it’s over,” Daniel replied quietly.

“So what now? What’s your third phase?” Drael asked curiously, though his tone carried a hint of concern.

It seemed he was worried that Daniel’s third phase might conflict with his own, and that the two of them could end up as enemies.

However, Daniel didn’t answer and simply gave him a look.

“Mine is to kill the buried god,” Drael sighed when he realized Daniel wasn’t going to respond.

“Good. Mine’s the same,” Daniel smiled and walked toward him.

“If I’m not wrong, that god should be somewhere deep beneath this temple. We need to find a way to get inside.” He pointed toward the temple as he spoke.

“Go down into the temple’s depths? Why not just destroy the whole surface and open a path straight down?” Drael suggested.

“Not a bad idea,” Daniel thought for a moment and nodded. Doing that wasn’t hard, and it would definitely be faster.

He motioned for Drael to move back, then stepped further away himself. Raising his hand, death energy, moonlight energy, and mana all surged out, gathering in his palm.

Before long, a round sphere the size of a tennis ball formed in his hand, shining with multiple colors.

Daniel smiled as he looked at it. It was something he had just created, a masterpiece. He didn’t know exactly how strong the explosion would be, but it should be around four times stronger than the Orb of Death.

He threw it toward the temple and, just to be safe, created an additional protective barrier around himself and Drael.

The orb gently landed on the ruined temple and then—

Boom!

The sound of a massive explosion shook the sky, the earth, and even space itself. Huge cracks opened in the void, and the entire surface was completely leveled.

Nothing remained. A gigantic crater several kilometers deep had formed.

Dust filled the air everywhere.

When it slowly began to settle, the two of them could clearly see a staircase leading down into the depths of the earth.

Strangely, the staircase was completely untouched by the explosion, it hadn’t even been scratched.

The two exchanged glances, then silently agreed to move toward it. Looking down, it seemed endless.

Without hesitation or delay, Daniel stepped onto the first stair and began to descend. Drael followed behind him.

Time passed slowly as they went down, but it was impossible to tell how long it had been or how deep they had gone.

Still, there seemed to be no end in sight, and more importantly, there was nothing to see. Just an endless staircase carved into the earth, descending further and further.

“It’s faith energy,” Daniel muttered suddenly, as if realizing something.

“Huh?”

“It’s nothing,” he replied. He had just noticed that the staircase was being protected by faith energy.

More precisely, the faith energy was flowing downward through the staircase, it acted like a channel carrying the power of faith.

‘Even though the people’s faith in the Grand Priest and the temple has crumbled, they still believe in their god. That’s why there’s still so much powerful faith left,’ he reasoned.

“Looks like we’ve arrived,” Drael’s voice broke his train of thought.

Daniel raised his head and looked forward. They had reached the end of the staircase, but what stood before them was… hard to describe.

It looked like a cavern deep underground, but far larger, and far too beautiful to be natural.

The walls shimmered silver, and in front of them flowed a massive golden river, it seemed to be made entirely of faith energy.

Around them, fragments of light floated through the air, illuminating the place with a soft glow.

And at the center of this strange and majestic space was something that looked like a heart.

A silver hand was emerging from the ground, holding a golden heart. Even stranger, countless fragments of light surrounded it, as if trying to protect it.

There were two marks on the floor, footprints and knee imprints, as if someone had once knelt before the heart.

“Probably the Grand Priest,” Daniel muttered.

He wanted to approach, but his intuition warned him, it was something deeply ominous and dangerous.

He decided to look around before going near it. Moving closer to the golden river, he tried to see what it was.

As he approached, he could feel the enormous power of faith within the river, far greater than any faith energy he had ever encountered.

It was so dense it had taken a physical form, completely tangible.

‘I thought the buried god was absorbing all this faith energy… but why does it look like it hasn’t been touched at all?’ he frowned.

One of his earlier assumptions had just proven wrong.

However, before he could figure out what was going on, words he hadn’t expected echoed in his ears.

“Finally, I’ve got my heart back.” Drael spoke with a wicked smile on his face, holding the golden heart in his hand.
