Chapter 522: The Crimson Temple
The sun was shining in the sky, and the whole green plain looked bright and beautiful.
Cool breezes occasionally blew from the east, balancing out the warm air.
Inside a wooden carriage pulled by a horse, there were four figures.
One of them, a young man covered in blood and badly injured, was lying down.
Beside him sat a handsome young man and a beautiful girl who looked to be in her early twenties.
They both seemed focused on the wounded man’s condition.
Worry filled the eyes of the handsome young man; he truly looked troubled and anxious about the wounded man’s state.
Anyone seeing them would think the two men were real brothers.
Even the young girl, who looked pure and innocent like a saint, believed they must be siblings.
“Sir, please don’t worry. Your brother will be fine; he’s just injured. Once we reach the temple, the priests will definitely be able to heal him.” The young girl spoke while her light brown hair swayed gently in the wind.
Her tone was innocent and gentle, clearly trying to comfort the handsome man sitting beside her.
“Thank you so much, young lady! Once my brother recovers, we’ll repay all your help. We’re even willing to serve you forever!”
The handsome man, or rather, Daniel, spoke with deep gratitude.
“No, no! You don’t have to! I didn’t do this expecting anything in return!” The girl quickly replied, thinking her good intentions had been misunderstood.
“I understand, young lady, but this is the least we can do for saving my brother’s life. I’m sorry, but I’m not wealthy; otherwise, I’d pay whatever it costs.” Daniel said respectfully and gratefully.
“Ah, I don’t need money. Well, if you insist that much, we can talk about it later.” The young girl sighed and didn’t continue the conversation.
She knew the young man was genuinely thankful, and his pride wouldn’t let him ignore the favor.
If she pushed the issue any further, she might hurt his pride, and she didn’t want to do that.
At that moment, she glanced again at the wounded man and noticed his pulse becoming unstable again.
She immediately told the coachman to speed up the carriage.
She didn’t notice that the handsome young man sitting next to her was now calmly staring at the wounded man, who everyone thought was his brother, without a hint of worry.
That man, of course, was Daniel.
And the wounded young man was Drael.
As for their situation and who this young girl actually was…
Everything went back to a few hours earlier, when they had just approached the city.
At that time, they wanted to enter the city secretly, since they discovered that foreigners were not allowed inside.
However, to their surprise, they realized it was impossible to sneak in.
That’s when Daniel noticed that some kind of powerful artifact was protecting the city, preventing outsiders from entering.
So, they had no choice but to come up with another plan.
At that moment, they saw a carriage leaving the city, carrying a beautiful, innocent young girl.
They followed the carriage and saw it heading toward the sea. When they arrived, they watched as she began collecting different kinds of herbs.
From her clothing, it wasn’t hard to guess she was from a temple or somewhere similar.
After all, she dressed exactly like a priestess, and even her pure and gentle demeanor made it obvious she came from a holy place.
So, the two of them decided to act as a pair of unfortunate travelers, brothers, one of whom had been attacked by monsters, both barely surviving.
They threw themselves in front of her carriage, hoping to ask for her help.
They weren’t sure the plan would work, but it was their only chance.
Naturally, no monster had attacked them.
It was Daniel who had beaten up Drael and injured him to make the situation look real.
He even wounded himself slightly to make it more believable.
After they threw themselves in front of the carriage and asked for help, the girl’s heart immediately went out to them.
When she saw how badly injured Drael was, she quickly got out and tried to heal him.
However, she soon realized her power wasn’t enough to heal someone that badly injured.
So, she offered to take them to the city and bring them to the temple instead.
There, the priests could surely heal him.
Daniel accepted without hesitation. To avoid suspicion, he told her that he and Drael were brothers traveling to bigger cities to start a trade business.
Luckily, everything had gone smoothly so far, and they were now heading toward the city gate.
Once they got inside, everything else would be easier.
He had also managed to learn the young girl’s name, Mirena.
She was one of the young priestesses of the temple, raised there since childhood.
Although Daniel wanted to get more information from her, this wasn’t the right time.
Even if she looked pure and innocent, pushing her for answers would only make her suspicious.
He also didn’t know what the second phase of the third floor would be.
Anything could happen, and until he understood the situation, he had no intention of doing anything unnecessary, like making new friends.
As the carriage sped up, it didn’t take long for them to reach the city gates.
But before they could enter, the guards stopped them.
“Who are these two?” one of the guards asked suspiciously, pointing at Daniel and the unconscious Drael.
“They’re two young merchants I found on the road. They were attacked by monsters and barely survived! One of them is in serious condition and needs to be checked by the priests.” Mirena looked at the two guards as she explained.
“Ah, young lady, you know the rules. Outsiders can’t enter the city.” The guard sighed as he spoke.
“Please! I promise I’ll personally explain everything to the High Priest!”
“Fine, but as soon as he recovers, they must leave the city.” The guard finally agreed and let them pass.
Daniel let out a quiet sigh of relief. Thankfully, he didn’t have to use force.
Once they entered the city, they went straight toward the Crimson Temple.
It didn’t take long before Daniel could clearly see the temple with his bare eyes.
