Chapter 520: The Monster Awakens
Daniel opened his eyes.
There was no light, only darkness and pressure. Around him, he could hear the grinding of bones and the groaning of metal.
“I… I can’t breathe!” Drael shouted beside him, his voice trembling, fear stuck in his throat.
But Daniel remained calm. His eyes gleamed faintly in the dark. There wasn’t even a hint of worry in them, it was as if he didn’t care at all.
“Shut up and stay still.”
In truth, they were trapped inside the monster’s hand. The situation couldn’t be more dangerous, but Daniel wasn’t even slightly worried, which only made Drael more confused.
For a moment, Drael wondered if this man had completely lost his mind, had the fear finally driven him insane?
They were literally on the verge of death! The monster only needed to squeeze a little harder and they’d both be crushed completely.
Just then, the pressure outside increased. The massive bones pressed tighter, and the sound that followed was like mountains grinding together.
“…Fine then. I’ll end this with one strike,” Daniel muttered under his breath.
He already had a rough idea of the monster’s power.
It was extremely strong, but fortunately, it still hadn’t reached S Rank yet.
He raised his hand. Mana burst out of his body as the auras of death and moonlight intertwined.
The ground, or whatever was beneath him, shook.
“What are you doing?!” Drael shouted in disbelief.
Daniel didn’t answer. Two black circles appeared around him, then merged into one orb, dark, glowing, and filled with white cracks.
The amount of energy radiating from it was so overwhelming that the bone walls surrounding them started to crack.
With a simple wave of his hand, Daniel created a silver barrier around himself and Drael.
“Close your eyes.”
Drael didn’t even have time to ask why. The death orb exploded.
Everything turned white for an instant, then black again.
The surrounding bones shattered into countless pieces. Green and black flames of death erupted violently, and with a muffled roar, the monster’s hand disintegrated completely.
The ground shook. A deep, guttural roar rose from below.
Even though the creature was made of bone, it clearly felt pain.
Of course, the Death Orb inflicted more than just physical pain, it was born from the Law of Death itself, capable of attacking the concept of existence and the soul directly.
Daniel and Drael were finally free from the monster’s grip.
They looked toward the sky and let out a sigh of relief.
Then Daniel summoned Zaimorn.
“Both of you, use everything you have, Fly toward the canyon’s exit and get out of here.”
Drael just nodded and, without hesitation, used all his strength to fly toward the canyon’s exit. The Fallen he commanded followed right behind him.
At that same moment, the ground trembled again. From the depths of the canyon, massive piles of bone erupted upward. The canyon split apart as something began to rise.
The monster’s full body.
Its skull emerged first, then its shoulders, then its enormous ribs.
Each bone gleamed like a mountain, with glowing green veins of light pulsing between them.
With every movement, the surrounding cliffs shattered, and the canyon collapsed further.
“…Maybe this way I can at least test my current strength,” Daniel exhaled.
He stayed behind intentionally, to buy time for Drael and the Fallen to escape.
As long as he could keep the monster occupied, they’d have a chance to make it out alive.
With a flick of his hand, Daniel summoned hundreds of Fallen.
Death aura surged into the sky above the canyon, forming a storm of black energy.
Daniel stood in the middle of it, sword raised, ready for battle.
But the monster didn’t wait. Its hands regenerated instantly, bones snapping back together with thunderous cracks.
With just one movement, the air across the entire canyon shattered.
The Fallen were tossed around like leaves in a storm.
Daniel activated his sword aura at full power and charged at the monster.
The first clash echoed through the canyon, a deafening sound of metal striking bone.
The aura of death clashed with the monster’s skeletal frame, and green mist burst from the point of contact.
But the monster only tilted its head slightly, then swung its arm casually, sending Daniel flying through the air like a worthless insect.
He spun midair, commanded the Fallen to regroup, and charged again.
This time, he activated the Law of Death. A miniature black hole of energy formed at the tip of his sword and struck the monster’s ribs.
One of the massive bones cracked, but immediately regenerated.
The monster’s glowing eyes locked onto Daniel, burning like twin green suns.
Another roar, then a horizontal swing. Daniel dodged just in time, but the shockwave behind him vaporized an entire cliff.
Five of the Fallen were obliterated instantly.
“All of you, attack!!” Daniel roared furiously.
Hundreds of Fallen surged forward with all kinds of weapons, storming the monster from every direction.
Explosions, flashes, and roars filled the air, turning the entire canyon into a hell of green and black light.
The monster lashed out among the chaos, each swing killing dozens. But every time it crushed one, its bones shone even brighter.
Unfortunately, no matter how many it destroyed, the Fallen kept coming back.
As long as their master was alive, so were they.
Daniel quickly climbed up one of the monster’s cracked bones and slashed downward with his sword from above.
But it still wasn’t enough.
The monster raised its other hand with impossible speed, and in a single, clean motion, struck Daniel.
The world went dark for a few seconds.
He smashed into the rock wall, bones breaking, breath leaving his lungs. The sound of his body cracking mixed with the rumble of the ground.
“Damn it… my mana’s almost gone…” Daniel coughed, black blood spilling from his mouth.
There was barely any mana left in his body, not even enough to fly.
The monster loomed over him, its shadow swallowing the entire canyon.
It raised its foot, larger than a mountain.
At that moment, the Fallen rushed forward, trying to stop it.
All of them together, attacking the monster’s leg from every side, but it was pointless. The creature ignored them completely.
With a mere flick of its hand, a massive surge of energy erupted from both sky and ground, tearing their bodies apart instantly.
In terms of power, it wasn’t wrong to say this monster was infinitely close to S Rank, only one step away.
Even a False S Rank couldn’t possibly stand against it.
As for Daniel… in his current condition, he didn’t stand a chance.
If he still had access to his skills, he could have killed it with [Apocalypse], but without them, it was impossible.
The monster’s massive foot slowly came down, shaking the entire canyon to its core and tearing everything apart.
