Chapter 498: Getting Out Of The Mist
Daniel stopped thinking. In the current situation, this was the only idea that came to his mind for getting out.
As long as he could regain his vision, even for a short moment, that alone would be a huge help.
Before that, he had also tried summoning one of his Fallen, but unfortunately, the moment it appeared, it lost all of its senses as well.
That confirmed there was no shortcut, the only way was to force his way through, though even that wasn’t guaranteed to work.
He slowly raised his sword. The blade began to glow faintly with a white aura.
He poured all his strength into this strike. For the first time, he was about to swing with his full power, even he didn’t know what kind of result it would bring.
Maybe it would do nothing… or maybe it could split a mountain in half.
No one, not even him, could know until he tried.
He took a deep breath and steadied his stance. Mana surged through his body and quickly gathered into the blade.
Then, with all his might, he swung down the sword, and the blade fell.
Suddenly—
BOOM!
A massive surge of power erupted from the sword. The ground shook so violently it felt like the earth itself was about to shatter.
A huge crack tore through the land, stretching so far that its end couldn’t even be seen.
The ground beneath their feet literally split apart, forming a canyon several kilometers deep.
Daniel even had to step back because the ground beneath his own feet had started to break apart.
The entire land trembled, and for a moment, it even felt like the sky itself was shaking in fear.
Under the overwhelming force of the strike, the mist rapidly dispersed.
It only took a few seconds before Daniel felt his senses returning.
He could see again. A small smile appeared on his face.
When he looked at the result of his attack, he was momentarily shocked —
His strike had carved a massive valley and annihilated everything in its path.
But he quickly snapped out of it and, without wasting any time, rushed toward the visible exit.
He poured every bit of strength he had left into running, determined to escape that cursed mist as fast as possible.
It didn’t take long for the mist to start returning to its original state.
Seeing that, he pushed himself even harder, he could see the mountain range and the exit up ahead.
He was close, just a little more!
“Huh?” He suddenly noticed a body lying on the ground.
It was covered in blood, and parts of it seemed to be missing.
Especially the limbs, both arms and legs were gone, leaving only the upper body and head.
The face was too bloody to recognize, but Daniel immediately realized who it was.
“Drael… damn it, what happened to you?” He rushed over and picked up the body.
Since it had no limbs, it wasn’t hard to lift.
He checked for a pulse, and after sensing that Drael was still alive, he sighed in relief.
Then he boosted his speed again, dashing toward the exit like an explosion.
The mist started to reform, and his senses , including vision, began to fade once more.
He might only have a few seconds left.
He couldn’t afford to get trapped in that mist again.
But it seemed like the mist didn’t want to let them go, it was trying to drag them back by any means necessary.
Unfortunately for it, the mist was destined to lose!
Daniel took one final step and threw himself forward.
Both of them hit the ground hard, their bodies covered in dust.
But the mist was no longer there.
That terrifying fog was now behind them — they had finally escaped.
Daniel exhaled deeply, gasping for air.
He had finally made it out.
His senses slowly returned to normal — smell, hearing, and sight all coming back.
That horrible, numbing feeling was finally gone.
He lay on the ground for a while, staring at the sky.
It was almost night; the sun was setting, and the air was getting colder.
After confirming that they were safe, no mist, no monsters, he turned his attention to Drael.
His arms and legs were completely severed, the flesh rotten and his breathing faint.
He was just a step away from death.
Daniel placed his hand on Drael’s chest.
Mana surged through his body and transformed into life force, flowing through his palm into Drael’s body.
His pulse and breathing gradually stabilized.
But when Daniel saw it wasn’t enough to fully heal him, he poured in more mana.
A massive amount of mana burst out of him and flowed into Drael.
In moments, new arms and legs began to regrow, and the rotten flesh healed, turning fresh and healthy again.
His pulse strengthened and returned to normal.
Seeing that he was completely healed, Daniel withdrew his hand and leaned back slightly.
Not long after, Drael slowly opened his eyes, looking around in confusion.
The dazed look in his eyes was obvious.
“Where am I? I remember dying… is this heaven? But why is it uglier than I imagined?” he muttered to himself, then turned and saw Daniel.
“Huh? You died too? So we came to heaven together?”
“…”
“We’re alive,” Daniel said quietly, then explained what had happened , how he saved both of them and escaped from the mist.
“I see… I owe you a lot. Thank you!” Drael said with gratitude, bowing slightly.
“There’s no need for that. You helped me once before too. Anyway, what happened to you?” Daniel said as he stood up.
“After I completely lost my senses, I kept moving forward… then suddenly, a bunch of monsters attacked me.I tried to fight back, but… well, you saw how that ended.”
“I see. Now that you’re better, it’s time for us to keep moving.”
Drael nodded and slowly stood up as well.
Both of their gazes drifted toward the mountain range ahead —
But then, their eyes widened in disbelief.
It looked as though the peaks of that range… were covered in blood.
