Chapter 483: The war in the sky…3
Pink hovered above, its eyes locked on Sunshine. She felt the weight of the bird’s hatred. It did not just want to capture her anymore; it wanted her dead.
“Suni,” Nimo said, panting. “That thing is looking at you like fish. Like dinner.”
Sunshine’s lips curved into a knowing cold smile. “Then, let’s make it choke.”
Nimo gasped. “You are not suggesting…”
Hadrian flickered behind Pink, attempting to plant a sonic disruptor on her back. The bird slapped him away with one wing. Nevertheless, he threw the disruptor out like a cricket ball. The device pulsed and exploded, sending shock waves through Pink’s body.
The colossal bird screeched, wings spasming.
But instead of falling like others, it sought retaliation. A burst of the white flames erupted from its feathers. The flames which aimed for Hadrian almost sent him falling from the sky.
As his suit stabilized and cooled, he said into a small earpiece, “Guys, let’s not tick off Pink. My suit is making the same sound eggs make when they meet oil in a hot pan. If we fight her now, there is a fifty percent chance, she will win.”
Major Elio shook his head. He had not been planning to fight Pink, and he doubted the others did. Except for Sunshine maybe. The goal of this demonstration was to prove that the watchers could not carry them away as long as they had these suits.
He counted the serpents that were still alive. “Activating lasers.”
Carson did the same and the two seared through the wings of the remaining serpents. The others rejoined the battle, to finish off the remaining winged beasts.
Meanwhile, Sunshine and Pink maintained eye contact, each daring the other to make a move. She froze the wings of two more watchers, and they were taken away into the mist. Pink’s army had diminished significantly. The alien bird was down to three small watchers.
Pink shrieked, furious. She dove towards Sunshine, talons blazing.
Sunshine braced herself. “Come on then, let’s settle this once and for all.”
Just as the bird neared, a smaller watcher shrieked–the one whose leg Sunshine had nearly severed. She drew Pinks attention to another watcher that was bleeding. Nala had successfully cut off the leg of a small watcher.
Pink hesitated and did a flip. She flew away from Sunshine and screeched.
Six watchers came from the mist and swooped in, three attacked Nala and three grabbed the injured one. Then, they all backed away, retreating into the mist.
The mutant and mutated beasts that remained made a quick escape, running away as fast as they could.
Sunshine looked at the retreating mist, breathing hard. “Next time, Pink.” she whispered.
The team regrouped on the ground and deactivated their suits. They were exhausted, but alive. Around them soldiers applauded.
Medics rushed to attend to them, refreshments were provided and the seven were made as comfortable as possible during the drive back to the fortress.

The billionaires erupted in applause when Sunshine finally met them again in the conference room. She was fresh out of decontamination and a bath. The tyrian purple bodysuit she was wearing was a unique one. One that none of them had ever seen and they were already plotting how to ask for one.
But first, the exo suits.
They cheered while calculating profits.
“That was awesome.” Jon declared. “I have never seen anything like it. It was a scene straight out of a movie.”
“I will buy the recordings, not for me but for someone else in the movie business.” Cory waved his cellphone.
Sheldon stood up. “I’ll buy five hundred!”
Kris frowned. “I thought you wanted two hundred.”
“Five, one thousand, ten thousand…it does not matter. I will take as many as you have.” Jin said. “They are worth every million.”
Jon raised his voice. “Do they come in gold. Tracy wants one in gold. And she wants a cat sized one for Bob.”
Cory’s eyes widened. “Right, my nonna wants to know if she can get some for her mutated dogs. She is scared that the watchers might switch from taking superhumans to super pets.”
Sunshine stopped to yawn. Fighting in the suit had drained her mentally. If not for the negotiations, she would have joined the others in the medic bay for a nap. Then, she would not have to listen to these rich folks and their ridiculousness.
“Gentlemen,” Hades stepped in. “My wife is exhausted and that is why I need you to focus.”
Sheldon raised his hand. “Well, if we are to get serious, I have a serious question. You are always telling us not to provoke the watchers. Haven’t you done the same thing? All that leg slicing you have done, isn’t it going to put a target on Fortress four.”
The billionaires paused the clamoring and looked at Sunshine.
“We have always been a target.” She replied easily. “If we were not, there would be no watchers here and no mutant beasts. The watchers are not our friends. They will not leave this planet without a show of force and capability from us, the humans.”
“If you are worried about being a target because you are a resident here, you know what to do.” Hades told Sheldon.
Sheldon sneered. “You are not getting rid of me Quinn. We all know about the slaughter of the watchers at the white house. We know they are unhinged. I would rather take my chances here than out there.” At least here, they had a bubble, weapons, superhumans and these new suits. “Anyway, I will pay twenty million for a suit.”
Sunshine’s heart started to pound, and she prayed they did not see her excitement. Twenty million for five hundred suits was ten billion!
She grinned widely. “Oh Shelly, I knew I liked something about you.”
Hades stopped her, shaking his head. “Twenty million, who are you trying to rip off? This suit is something that would use up to at least eight hundred million in research alone. The technology used here has never been seen in the world before.”
Jon jumped in. “Hades, this is not the old world. We don’t have regular steady income coming in so we cannot afford to buy the suit at what it is worth. We are not fools, even we know this.”
Hades grinned. “Then make it up another way. My wife can become a shareholder in all your future ventures until she recoups the total sum of the real price of the suits which will be eighty million per suit. No negotiations, no bickering, no pleading. This is the deal, take it or leave it.”
The billionaires erupted.
Three hours later, after numerous bickering, negotiation and pleading, the billionaires agreed to Hades’ terms. They signed contracts before claiming one suit. The rest would be delivered gradually, four per week.
Sunshine did not want to show off that she had many suits that could be handed off at any moment. She deliberately stressed the production process and inflated the stress the researchers were undergoing.
The billionaires left with glowing faces. A glow of greed and satisfaction.
Sunshine looked outside the window of the now deserted conference room. For once, there was not a single watcher on the bubble. Whether they would return, was an unknown question.
What she did know was that sooner or later, she would meet Pink in another battle. The watcher was probably in the mist or wherever her kind came from, plotting her next move.
Next time, Sunshine would clip more than legs, she promised herself.
