Chapter 482: The war in the sky….2
The seven also stopped all movement, hovering in the sky as they waited anxiously and excitedly. The birds started forming formations, shrieking in a single direction as if they were asking for commands or approval.
“Well, this ends the showman phase of our fight.” Nimo said.
Sunshine smiled as the sky filled with hundreds of shrieking shadows. “We are heading into the real battle.”
Watchers lined up in their own formation, their talons burned with what looked like a white fire and their eyes gleamed with intelligence.
“Showtime,” Major Elio muttered. “Suni, she is coming.”
From behind a cloud where she had been watching, Pink descended like the final commander. Her size, as usual was twice the size of the others. Her wings stretched wider than a football field. Her feathers were blazing with that same white fire. Pink screeched and the smaller birds changed the formation.
Major Elio scoffed. “She is not just a commander; she is the strategist.”
Carson flexed the fists of his suit. “They are birds, earthly or alien, they are nothing more than organized poultry. Our best moved is to disorganize the formation.”
A smaller watcher broke away from the formation, diving at Sunshine.
[Activate your heat burners.] The system advised.
She gave the command and shared it with the others. When the watcher’s claws touched her suit, it reacted with the white fire. The sudden intensity of the heat shocked the creature. Sunshine took advantage of the moment to freeze its wings. The watcher shrieked as it plummeted.
Before she could finish it off, Pink screeched again. Two smaller watchers swooped in, catching their injured comrade mid-fall, carrying it away into the mist behind Pink.
Sunshine narrowed her eyes. “As expected, they protect each other. They will never allow us to take one of their own alive. We won’t wait for them to continue strategizing, scatter them.”
She fired macro missiles at the mutated birds, and as expected, they flew apart in a panic. They were not as smart as the watchers.
The sky became a mixture of superhumans in suits vs watcher’s vs mutated birds. Pink kicked Carson in the chest. His suit sparked, and his body was slammed by a force that was hard. But not hard enough to kill him. He only broke three ribs, which healed instantly.
In the conference room, every eye was focused on him because he was the first and only one to take a beating from Pink. Hades jumped for joy when he saw how little damage Carson had sustained. “See that boys, the suit works.” He shouted to the billionaires. “Have you ever seen anyone survive being crashed by a bird the size of one hundred buses stacked together?”
The billionaires did not respond. They focused as if they were watching a movie.
Hadrian used sonic disruptors to disrupt the formation of the watchers successfully. As it turned out, they did not like sharp noises so close to their ears.
Major Elio took out incoming mutated bats with his special bullets. He was controlling six arms of the suit, each firing like a sniper with two hundred years of experience. Every shot was aimed between the eyes of the bats.
Leah whipped cyclones that scattered everything in different directions.
Carson did not stop punching, like his suit had just one feature while Nala and Nimo concentrated on using acid hoses and macro missiles.
The sky was raining blood and feathers!
In the conference room, Sheldon turned to Hades with a frown on his face. “Does Carson only have a single move? All he is doing is punching the birds. Can’t he do something fancy like what your wife is doing? Tell him to switch it up.”
Hades sneered. “He is demonstrating the degrees and strength of the shockwave fist. Every bird he has punched has either died or been carried away by the watchers. This is a demonstration, if you need to study the abilities of the suit further, buy one and explore on your own.”
“I…” Sheldon started.
Cory cleared his throat. “Sheldon, this is a demonstration to us but they are actually fighting for their lives up there. In a fight, one goes with what they know best. Hades is right, explore on your own time. Or better yet, when they are done, put on the suit and go out personally. See how well you fair.”
Hades looked at Cory with approval.
Cory smiled softly. He was certain that he would be buying more suits than Sheldon with Hades’ approval.
“Kiss ass!” Sheldon muttered.
“If they survive this, I want five hundred suits.” Kris declared. “Two should be baby sized. My niece is pregnant with twins. This will make a nice gift for their first day on this messed up earth.”
“Kim’s pregnant!” Sheldon exploded. “Why? Who is responsible?”
Kris rolled his eyes. “Her fiancé. His name is Eren Langley and you know him very well. They will be getting married next week. Maybe then you will stop hitting on her and acting like a sleazy uncle.”
Sheldon was aghast. All focus on the demo was lost for a moment. He turned to Hades, “This is outrageous. Aren’t pregnancies illegal on the base?”
Pink shrieked and everyone focused on the demonstration once again. Most of the mutated birds were dead but something else was making an appearance. Mutant serpent birds with wings! Their scales shimmered like liquid silver. They dove for the seven immediately, fangs dripping acid.
“Energy shields.” Sunshine screamed.
Their suits flared with energy shields, deflecting the acid spray. Sunshine immediately countered with a blast of frost, freezing three serpents’ mid-air and shattering them quickly.
Leah rotated in a circle, creating a spinning tornado that tangled up a pair, twisting them around each other. Nala swooped in and beheaded them.
“Gregg will be so sad that he missed this.” Major Elio said as he watched Carson ripping a snake in half with the arms of the suit.
No superhuman enjoyed ripping mutant and mutated beasts apart with his arms. The suit was doing the ripping here, but they were controlling the suits so it was all the same.
While he was distracted, two watchers tried to carry him off.
“Adaptive gravity engaged!” He bellowed. The weight of his suit increased. The talons of the watchers strained under the sudden heaviness and they faltered. They gave up and flew up into the mist.
Jon was the happiest to witness that feature coming into play. “Now, we will never have to worry about being carried off.” he muttered.
Taking advantage of the serpent hissing and chaos, a watcher swooped close to Sunshine. She extended the retroactive spikes of her suit, slicing deep into the bottom of its feet. The creature shrieked, blood spraying across the sky.
For a moment, Sunshine though she had it. She thought it was the the moment she would finally kill a watcher. She lunged at the bird, frost spiraling from her hands, ready to freeze and take it into her space.
But Pink was watching. With a screech, she commanded two others to swoop in. They used the mist as a cover, grabbed their injured colleague before she could accomplish her goal.
Sunshine snarled and smiled, eyes locked on Pink. “Clever girl.”
