Chapter 480: The richest, walking ads.
There were six brand-new exo robot suits standing in the space, their presence was proof that the system had followed her instructions to the letter. But they were not enough to combat the problem of the watchers.

She needed more, an army of exo suits. Maybe one thousand of them. And the cost would be in the billions. She thought of her finances and sighed. “Whatever made me think developing my own territory and protecting others was a brilliant idea.” she muttered.

[I believe it was my activation. I would like to remind you that you have a town with a gold mine. As you expand, you will find more income generating ventures outside of scheming the billionaires.]

Her eyes lit up suddenly. She had a gold mine.

“System, I will be needing more. Give me ten more for now, they should be more than enough for the live testing and first exo suit auction.”

[At your pleasure, host.]

She smiled to herself as she stepped out of the space and into her office, where the smell of coffee greeted her before the sight of Hades did.

He was leaning against her desk like he owned the place, one arm folded, the other holding a steaming mug, his expression relaxed but his eyes betrayed him. He was still very sour about the little wink she had given Jon.

“Hello, wife commander,” he said deeply, in a flat voice, handing her the mug. “Ready to go out and scare the watchers back into whatever nightmare they crawled out of?”

Sunshine took the coffee, her fingers brushing his, and took a slow sip, savoring the warmth. “I wish it was that simple,” she replied, amused. “What’s with the look in your eyes, worry because the live demonstration must happen outside the bubble or jealousy because I winked at Jon?”

They had not talked about the wink on the way to the office. But, they had talked about the live demonstration she was planning. Hades voiced his fear that Pink could see this as an opening, a chance to snatch Sunshine as soon as she stepped outside.

She set the mug down, closed the distance between them, and lifted a hand to his cheek, her thumb brushed gently along his jaw. “I told you, “She said quietly, firmly, “I have a system. No matter what Pink does, I can protect myself by running and hiding in the space. I can even hide everyone else in there if things go south.”

Hades leaned into her touch before he caught himself, his voice low. “I know. Doesn’t mean I like it.” He straightened and asked, “So. Have you decided who you’re taking?”

Sunshine nodded as she turned toward the door, already mentally checking names off a list she’d agonized over more than she liked to admit. “Carson, Hadrian, Morris, Elio, Nimo, and Leah.”

Hades whistled softly. “Now that is a lineup that I approve, some of the best people we have.”

“I agree,” she replied. “We don’t need first timers in battle. The suits are intuitive, but whoever wears them needs to think fast. If you are fast witted, you can handle the suit and the danger around you.”

He handed her a phone. She started calling them one by one, her tone calm, extending the opportunity not like an order but like an invitation to a dinner party. One by one they accepted, voices filled with excitement.

Morris was the only one who hesitated, his laugh strained. “Ma’am, you know I can turn into a giant, right? What if I morph mid-suit? I don’t want to be the reason your shiny new toy explodes. Besides, I am afraid of flying. I always think that I will fall and explode. I am afraid that I will drag you down.”

She exhaled slowly, understanding the concern. “I could insist, but we don’t have time right now,” she admitted. “So, I’ll offer the slot to Nala instead.” Morris agreed to that suggestion.

There was a pause, then Nala’s voice came through, bright and fierce. “I’m in. I have always wanted to kick a watcher’s ass.”

And just like that, the team was set.

Preparations started being made. Sunshine met the children and shared her plans with them. Castiel threw a tantrum, wanting to follow her. Earl demanded for the body of a watcher if she killed one. Ariel requested for exo suits for his squad if they proved to be indestructible.

They dropped the children off with Rori, Sunshine crouching to straighten a collar here, ruffle hair there, masking her nerves behind small smiles and encouragements.

Then, she headed to the conference room where the billionaires were already gathered like restless birds, murmurs bouncing off polished walls.

Giant monitors loomed, dark and expectant, until Sunshine lifted her chin and switched them on. The screens revealed an image of the exo suit in crisp detail, sleek and intimidating, all clean lines and quiet promise. The room remained quiet for a moment even though their gazes were loud.

Sheldon was the first to recover. “What,” he said slowly, eyes wide, “is that?”

Cory leaned forward, practically vibrating. “I don’t care what it is. I’m buying it.”

Sheldon leaned back in the chair and said slowly. “Is this a military project someone pitched to you?”

Jon shoved Sheldon’s head. “She has a robot. A real robot that is smart, does housework, babysits, knows engineering….”

The billionaires erupted in excited. How many times had they offered to buy Tank, but Sunshine always rejected them? Had the opportunity finally arrived?

A ripple of laughter followed, tension breaking, and Sunshine allowed herself a small smile. “This,” she said, gesturing to the screen, “is an exo robot suit. Enhanced strength, reinforced shielding, environmental protection, assisted targeting, and adaptive movement systems. In simple terms, it keeps you alive where the world outside wants you dead and above all, it has ways of fighting against the watchers or in the very least slowing them down and getting you to safety.”

She paced slowly as she spoke, letting the weight of her words sink in. “If you go beyond the walls of the fortress, beyond the protection of the bubble, this is what will make it possible for you to come home without scratches.”

Sheldon rubbed his chin, already lost in thought. This thing looks like it costs an arm and a leg. If I make a cheaper version after the apocalypse, I can rake in billions.

Sunshine’s eyes ran over each one of them. “Before you buy them, I need to show you that it works.” She finished by straightening, her voice ringing with quiet authority. “You’re going to be the first people to see it in action.”

Excitement exploded through the room.

“I have to say Sunshine Quinn is intelligent, if this works, then we will be walking ads for her product.” Jin whispered to Cory

Cory laughed. “The richest, most trusted ads.”

“Alright then!” Sheldon shouted, clapping his hands together. “Let’s start! Suit me up.”

Hades stepped forward before Sunshine could respond, his tone firm. “My wife….” he said with emphasis, looking at Jon, “and her team will be the only ones going beyond the walls. You’ll stay here and watch.”

Jon nodded immediately. “It’s safer that way for the suit and us.”

Kris hummed in agreement. “Yeah. There’s always a chance for something to go wrong. Nothing’s ever one hundred percent safe out there.”

Jin nodded strongly. “The last time one of us left, he returned without a hand.”

Everyone looked at Sheldon who growled in return.

Sunshine looked around the room, at the mix of fear, greed, hope, and awe on their faces, then back at Hades, whose gaze met hers, steady and trusting despite everything. For a brief moment the weight of it all pressed down on her chest. Then she lifted her chin, squared her shoulders, and smiled, humor threading through her voice. “Relax,” she said. “What happened to Sheldon was because of his own stupidity. No one is asking you to go out there. Just get your gold and cash ready to buy the suits after I show you that they work.”
