Chapter 377: Back to the Levias sea.
Sunshine was expecting a quick response. What she got was silence and very obvious unwillingness in Sheldon’s eyes. Hades had given her files on all the billionaires and she knew that if Sheldon had another choice, he would not accept her rules.
The reason was simple; she was a woman.
Ever since he took leadership of the company from his older brother who fell mysteriously ill, no woman had been promoted to a leadership position.
Sheldon liked women, as long as they were at home or in the bedroom. But of course, he did not mind hiding a female bodyguard when his life was in danger.
Sunshine watched him suspiciously_ arms crossed. “Speak, I have already given you too much of my time. Do we have an understanding or will you continue to give me trouble?”
“The hybrid seeds.” Sheldon answered, sitting back down in his chair with a smug look on his face. “Like you said, I am a smart man. I have been thinking about some things…..for the good of our future.” He said in a grand tone, touching his chest dramatically. “I am willing to lower the price a little bit as long as you can meet me halfway. I can be very generous on your next order or very difficult. Surely, you don’t….”
Sunshine’s laughter was even colder.
Sheldon paused, tilting his head and wondering what was making Sunshine laugh. He assumed that it was his guts that she was finding unbelievable. He was determined to make her bend to his will. Unlike Jon and the others, he had no plans to be submissive to Hades Quinn and his wife.
“You are a really annoying bug.” She pressed her thumb on the lock pad, causing her office door to slide open. Sheldon hurried after her, throwing out excuses as he followed.
“I am doing this because you have left me with no choice. All I want is a mall, one tiny mall inside the base. Just give in to this one request and we can have a great relationship.
You know these hybrids out perform everything that was in the market….and now that the food market is no more, I am basically an endangered species.” A triumphant smile tugged on his lips. “I wanted to give our base priority but I can still sell them outside if you don’t play ball. I bet there are millions of people that would die to get there hands on them.”
Sunshine turned sharply, making him stop in his tracks. “Ball! You are as cunning as a fox Sheldon. As a smart man, I am sure that you have already realized that I have not bought any more of your seeds or shared news of there successful cultivation. Surely, you should suspect by that there is a problem.”
He began to speak but Sunshine raised a finger to silence him.
“The hybrid seeds,” she said evenly. “Are not viable. They cannot grow beyond seedlings level. You are not an endangered species, you are a monkey in a valley of a million monkeys.”
“What!?” Sheldon roared, standing still. “You_ you are lying just because you want to devalue my product. You expect me to believe that when I saw the results for myself? This is nothing but your ploy to kill the market for my seeds and I will not stand such slander. I have dealt with people like you before! Careful, Mrs. Quinn, I do not like people that mess with my business. Even my family knows this.”
“Ask Dr. Sing then,” She cut in, her voice slicing through the cold room. “Or ask anyone from the farming department and they will confirm this for you. You basically have empty air. But the good news is that I still have use for your seeds in terms of research. However, I will not be buying them at an exorbitant price.
If I were you, I would jump on the new deal and get rid of much stock as I can. Now get out, I have work to do.”
Sheldon let out a decisive laugh. “I see you have all this planned out, Dr. Sing must be part of this scheme!” Sheldon spat, face red with fury, he wanted to wring her neck. If more false news like this spread, he would not be making the billions he had planned to make in the apocalypse. “Indeed, when you sleep with a cunning wolf you become one yourself. I should not have expected integrity from Hades Quinn’s wife.”
“Get. Out.” Sunshine gestured to the door. Her tone was enough to send him storming out like an angry child. His expensive slippers slapped angrily against the marble floor as he muttered something about launching his own investigation and not being cheated by the likes of the Quinn’s.
When the door shut behind him, Sunshine exhaled slowly, unfolding fists she did not realize she had tightened. Sheldon had a way of working her nerves and one day her hammer would land on his head. A notification pinged in her mind_
[The door to the Levias sea opens on an hour, host are you interested?]
Sunshine said yes.
With no time to waste, she left the mechanics section and returned home, going straight into the space after leaving a note for her husband and children.
In the space, the borrowed diving pod was already waiting, gleaming under the soft light like a white sea pearl. A diving suit was laying g next to it.
[Host, wear the suit and enter the pod.]
Sunshine obeyed without hesitation. She had figured she would be going out of the space with the pod, not in it.
A white light flashed.
And suddenly she was in the deep waters of the Levias sea. She realized why the system had told her to enter the pod, it planned to drop her in the sea directly.
Her eyes fluttered open to darkness_ endless swaying darkness. The pod rocked gently, she was not floating on the surface.
[1000meters deep into the sea waters.] The system alerted her.
The pod was shining, attracting sea creatures towards her already. She could see them circling it.
“Errrr….system? I think that i am in trouble here.” Sunshine said, her heart thudded against her chest.
[Invisibility shield activated. Pod signature concealed.]
Relief flooded her chest. Being poisoned once was enough and she did not want a repetition. The predators in the Levias sea were deadly. Not being seen was not just a luxury. It was a necessity.
The pod continued its descent, unaffected and unnoticed. The surface light dimmed as she sank deeper. Blue darkened to indigo, indigo to charcoal to pure void. However, the cameras on the pod enabled her to see. The small fish twinkling like falling stars, big jelly like creatures shimmering gold and green, creatures with strange tendrils that looked like vines made of light.
She blinked a few times when she met two schools of fish facing off in what looked like a fight for territory. Much as she wanted to observe, she lacked the time.
There was a whole other world under the sea that was exciting.
Sunshine pressed her palm against the pod’s glass, whispering, “This place is truly beautiful.” She barely got to see it last time because she was busy trying to not get eaten.
Alas, this visit did not provide the luxury either.
The descent was faster than last time, at some point pressure increased a little and she could feel the tightening around her chest_ the pod was built to withstand it, with a few setting adjustments the pressure stabilized. Finally, the pod’s underside brushed against thick slopping sand.
[You have arrived in the trenches Host.]
Sunshine felt a fluttering in her stomach. Somehow, it seemed like an ominous welcome.
