Chapter 375: A quick proposal.
Not everyone had fortune of salvation. Many parts of the world were naked beneath the frost stone disaster

Westbrook town suffered the worst as the ambush had happened before the bubble shield was installed. The frost stones fell without mercy as if punishing them for attacking the relief trucks.

Small shards stabbed into unprotected skin. People fled through the streets bleeding, screaming.

Buildings that were already on the brink of collapse were flattened by giant frost stones.

Bodies on the streets froze where they fell.

Fear was widespread, superhumans that could escape fled for survival.

As if the frost stones were not doing enough killing, some people resorted to murder, fighting over scraps of supplies which they had managed to get from the fortress four truck.

Children cried for parents who would never answer again.

The sky was merciless. Those who could see beyond the town watched in envy as their neighbors survived the disaster, protected by the bubble shield.

*******

The story was the same in Eden, but the wealthy on the upper rich side lived differently.

While common people screamed and died as frost stones shattered their houses, the super wealthy lounged in a hidden bunker.

Golden lights. Heated rooms. Wine glasses filled to the brim.

They watched everything that was happening outside through large screens fed by drone footage in corners of hidden buildings.

It was like entertainment to them.

“My goodness,” one rich woman laughed, sipping wine. “Look at that man! He almost outran that stone_ almost!”

Someone else tossed a stack of money on the table. “I bet the old man near the bridge dies in the next ten seconds.”

“Hey!” Another shouted. “That is my player!”

Laughter rose. More cheers erupted. More food and wine were served.

President Fitz was pleased with how things were going. In a collapsing world it was the rich that had to be saved because it was them that would rebuild the new world. He had invited common people to Eden because they would need workers_ hunters that could bring food and superhumans that would protect the rich.

So, above the ground, people were impaled, crushed, frozen. Down below, the elite celebrated, safe and warm, their only worry was which vintage bottle to open the next.

But the people were not without hope. Superhumans were trying to help out, they stood in the open, battling the frost stones with every fiber of their strength.

They controlled ice stones while telling the others to run. They melted the large ones they could get to in time.

But they were outnumbered and the stones were endless. They could only hope that this was not a disaster that would last long. In comparison to it, the snow had been a blessing.

********

Deep beneath the white house in the sealed bunker, the trapped people could do nothing but watch through monitors and listen to the sounds of the ground groaning.

The last remaining surface structure broke apart bit by bit under the frost stones. They tore through the roof.

Walls cracked.

Dust rained every few minutes.

Ceaser had never felt so helpless. The power flickered constantly, and he was worried that they would soon be plunged into darkness. It was bad enough that they were underground adding darkness was no different from being buried.

Desperation was growing within him, little by little like a leaking faucet which released only one drop of water every five minutes.

“Are we going to die here?” A woman asked. “Oxygen will finally run out. Without power, we will have no heat or light.”

Ceaser pulled Lugard to the side. “What that woman just said is right you know. It seems like we might stay here longer than we thought.”

Nodding, Lugard stared in confusion. “So, what do you suggest we do? It’s not like we can send them out of here.”

“That we cannot do.” Ceaser answered. “But we can reduce the number of noses that breath. Kill off every useless person in here.” He looked at the woman who aired her worries. “Start with her and be wise about it.”

He chose that particular woman because she was always pointing out what was wrong in the bunker. Everyone already knew what was wrong, they did not need to hear about it every other second.

Ceasar looked around, deciding who else needed to die. “Everyone that has spoken up against me. Leave the kids, they are easy to control. If they awaken, they will be easier to handle than their strong headed parents.”

Lugard nodded and walked away to begin on the plan. The only problem he had was what to do with the bodies of those that died. Living with dead bodies underground seemed like a nightmare.

Would they blow them up or burn them? Which was better?

Or….could they be chopped up and frozen for now?

*****

Meanwhile, in Crosstown, Moon had no worries about anything. She was living like a princess, just as she always wished. Whatever she wanted to eat was provided. She had two servants that tended to all of her needs.

Luxury outfits, shoes, bags and jewels were more than she needed. People treated her with respect. The best part of it all was that Peter adored her. After she predicted the frost stone disaster with eerie accuracy, he put her on a pedestal.

He believed he was a gift from the heavens, a woman who would help him bring in so much wealth and control the apocalypse world. He pampered her, protected her and worshiped the ground she walked on.

Everything she had expected from Pastor Salem, Peter accomplished and she could not be happier. Their relationship had progressed so quickly that they had already tangled in bed.

Even though Moon disliked Peter for being old [her father’s age], she pretended that he was a stud, the greatest man between the sheets. Moon now firmly believed that she had the man under her control. She had even told him about her past_ all lies of course, including the part where she was a widow.

She was unaware that Peter was already clear about the kind of woman she was and playing along with her manipulations. He also believed that he had Moon firmly under his control. A few jewels and instructions to people to treat her as they treated him and power had gone to her head.

But he wanted her that way; foolish, vain and stupid.

Just the other night, he had taken his own plans a step further. His ambition had always been to chain Moon to his side. So, while the frost stones fell and the residents of Crosstown closed themselves off in their bunkers, he prepared the perfect proposal.

Wine, candles and music. Flowers were impossible because he could not get his hands on any, so he replaced them with a bouquet of gold bars.

With a huge diamond ring, he had proposed. Moon had said yes even before the question was fully formulated.

So, since morning, Moon had been preparing for her wedding. Finally, she would be the lady boss of Crosstown and soon, the entire region.

Looking at her over the top ring which was worth a few million dollars, Moon laughed. “Oh Suni, I wonder how you are coping with those brats. If you could see me now, you would die of envy. Who needs your stupid ice powers or lucky charm? I am all the luck I need.”

She looked up and laughed again. She had won, finally and when they met, she would make sure Sunshine knew it.
