Chapter 373: Sheldon’s new scheme.
The adults reacted faster than the children. Adrenaline was rushing. Nimo grabbed Castiel, Sunshine grabbed Earl, Hades grabbed Ariel. Out of the door they ran, all the way outside the house. When they finally came to a stop, heaving with thudding hearts, they put the children down.

“Is everyone okay?” Hades asked.

They checked on the children first, then each other. Nobody had been bitten or harmed during the short escape.

Sunshine’s hands sparked, her eyes frosty like ice itself. “I am going back inside.” She declared.

“No, I will go.” Hades pulled her arm.

“I have a dragonoid in the living room.” Nimo shared. “How did a snake even get inside my house.”

“How many more are on the base?” Hades reached for a walkie-talkie around his belt. “We should….”

“It is not a real snake.” Ariel announced in a raised voice. “It is a training tool I got from Dr. Chloe. She assured me that it is not harmful at all.”

It took the adults a moment to digest and process what the young boy shared. As they did that, the kids giggled like the victors of a long prank war.

“What do you mean it is not real?” Hades raised his voice.

Sunshine patted his chest. “Easy.”

Castiel pouted, Earl looked away and Ariel grinned nervously. “Surprise,” he laughed shakily, “I was just trying to help aunt Nimo. She said that she did not want to leave the house ever again but see….” he gestured at Nimo. “She is outside and all thoughts of her romantic failures have been wiped from her mind. Now if she could take a bath and we can all go to Sheldon’s new ice cream parlor in the third wall…”

Sunshine pinched his ear, twisting slightly. Just enough to make Ariel wince. “Mom…” he cried out.

“A snake!” Sunshine raised her voice, even louder than Hades had done. “Have you lost your mind Ariel Quinn? What if we had trampled on one of you in the scuffle that followed? What if you gave me or another person a heart attack?”

“But…” Ariel started.

Sunshine twisted his ear again. “But nothing young man. We are living in the apocalypse, and people are afraid of their own shadows. A prank like the one you have pulled is not the most brilliant idea. We could have triggered alarms because of you.”

“But…” Ariel started again.

Sunshine narrowed her eyes at him. He lowered his head. “Sorry.”

She let go of the ear but inspected it to make sure that she had not injured him. It was fine. “Apologize to Aunt Nimo. You made her run out of her house barefoot.”

Ariel apologized as instructed, not just to Nimo but Hades and his brothers as well.

“He reminds me of you Suni,” Nimo said, leading everyone back to the house. “You put one of those fake rubber snakes in Kroy Jennings’ locker after he called you a squirrel faced pit bull.”

Hades raised his fists. “Who is he and where can I find him?”

“We were ten years old Quinn, relax.” Nimo looked back to him, rolling her eyes.

“He insulted my wife, it doesn’t matter how old he was, I am keeping the grudge and punching him if I ever meet him.” Hades declared.

Nimo snorted. “Suni beat you to that. She was not called a pit bull for no reason. Half of the boys in our class were victims of her fist.”

“You told me not to fight in class mommy, how come you used to do it.” Earl asked, in a voice that projected betrayal.

“Neems shut it.” Sunshine growled at her friend. She smiled at Earl. “Your aunt is joking; I was a very excellent and well-behaved student.”

“She broke the gym teacher’s teeth in eighth grade with two punches.” Nimo blurted. “All that poor woman did was…”

Sunshine growled, like the very pit bull she had once been called.

Nimo rushed her steps, escaping into the bathroom before she could lose her teeth. Sunshine got everyone else to help her clean up Nimo’s bedroom.

“What is this I am hearing about an ice cream parlor?” She asked Hades.

“It has games inside too.” Earl gushed. “And a VIP lounge.”

Sunshine frowned. “It sounds like a big operation.” She said through her teeth, eyeing her husband like she was about to rip his eyebrows off. Sunshine was worried because it was related to the billionaires.

“It is in Jon’s former base.” Hades rushed to share. “It was either ice cream or club glow.”

“They are adding a mall in the third wall.” Ariel shared. “Sheldon already paid many people for the rights to use their houses. They will all move to the new houses where Jin’s base used to be.”

“What?” Sunshine screamed.

Hades covered Ariel’s mouth. “Honey….” he said to Sunshine, softly in a wary voice. “It happened yesterday while we were having our disagreement. I only found out after breakfast.

Sheldon moved fast. He had his lawyer draw up contracts and seventy percent of the people in the third wall signed up. He paid them in cash, one hundred thousand for single bedroom houses, two hundred for double bedrooms. Three hundred for three-bedroom houses.”

Sunshine groaned.

“The convenience store had been restocked three times since morning.” Earl shared.

Sunshine was not too surprised to hear this. With money in their hands, people were hoarding. She could not blame them for choosing money.

Sunshine pictured it in her mind, a large mall standing in her base. The billionaires obviously wanted to revitalize their businesses so they would not do something small. The mall would not just be accessed by residents but nonresidents too.

She did not want outsiders coming near the core area of her budding empire.

“I already met with all of the troublemakers and made our stance clear. I told Sheldon that the best he can do in here is build a supermarket or maybe a museum. I don’t know what else he can put up that won’t become a problem.” Hades said to Sunshine, putting an arm around her shoulder. “If he wants to build a mall, he needs to do so in the town. And he can only use the resident builders if they are not working on base projects.”

Sunshine nodded. With her husband taking the reins, she would not need to step in and handle such matters personally.

“He plans to sue us of course.” Hades said slowly.

She pursed her lips. “And he thinks he will win. Has he forgotten whose base this is?”

“He has money and time.” Hades sighed. “He is just being a pain in the ass.”

Ariel poked his head between them. “Are we still going to the ice cream parlor? Also, my kids’ squad is keeping a close eye on the billionaires.

Coney Clark is Judge Judas Clark’s daughter, and she is one of my spies. For the fee of five packets of lollipops and lifetime supply of free chocolates, she let it slip to me that Sheldon is bribing all the judges on the base to side with him on the mall issue.

Her father is still undecided on the matter. Now, given the lack of generous income generating ventures in the apocalypse, I would not undermine Sheldon’s chances of winning.”

Sunshine and Hades were torn between being impressed by the progress of Ariel and his kids’ squad or horrified that children were now spying on their parents for candy!
