Chapter 368: Talking to Nimo.
Over the faint music coming from the jukebox, it was impossible for the others not to hear Sunshine’s cries. Naturally, they looked over with interest and worry. Leah even stood up, with intent to go over and soothe her now friend.

But Nimo shook her head and gestured for everyone to stay away. While she did that, Warren stepped out of the bar, walkie-talkie in hand. What he intended to do was obvious.

The bartender placed the beers on the table. Sunshine immediately reached for a bottle, gulping three sips greedily.

“Easy.” Nimo pulled Sunshine’s hand back, taking the beer from her friend. “Maybe tell me what is wrong first before you create a snowstorm inside the base and make Ariel give you another lecture.”

Sunshine sniffled. “It’s Hades. And White. And the children. And….everything. Everything is wrong Neems and I don’t know what to do.”

Nimo leaned forward. “Is this about the bear again?”

Sunshine nodded.

Nimo groaned. “Your life is way too dramatic.”

“It’s not just the bear.” Sunshine’s voice cracked. “I told you about how he kicked me out of bed for the bear last night. I had a conversation with Leah, very brief but very thought provocative. Now, all I can think of is her. What if he kicks me out of bed for her someday?”

Nimo looked at Leah with a frown. “Her? What the fuck have you done Leah?” She roared, standing up and grabbing a beer bottle like she intended to use it as a weapon. “I am going to….”

Leah was perplexed.

“Not her.” Sunshine whispered. “I mean Amber.”

Nimo sighed in relief and sat down again. For a moment, she thought Leah was maybe trying to seduce Hades. She sipped some beer before placing the bottle down with a thud, spilling some of its contents. “What does this have to do with his ex?”

Sunshine sniffled. “She is the mother of his children. Moon already said that Amber would make her way to Westbrook and reunite with Hades and the children. I talked to him about it, and he assured me that it was impossible for them to get back together. But life is unpredictable. What if they change their minds? Will they side with her when the time comes? Will they all decide she belongs in the bed, in our house and I am just the extra woman?”

Sunshine reached for the beer and Nimo did the same. They gulped down almost everything before slamming the empty bottles down.

Nimo tilted her head. “Suni, if that day comes, we will take our bubble and all of our fancy equipment and our beautiful selves far away from here. Aren’t we expanding? We will let them have whatever land Hades own on the mountain and stay within the rest of the territory you conquer.”

The bartender brought more beer, this time in glasses.

Nimo added, “But, I think you are spiraling. You have a habit of doing that sometimes Suni, you over analyze and overthink. Your husband did not kick you out for Amber, he suggested you spend the night elsewhere because your bear had separation anxiety for the night.”

Sunshine blinked, “But it could be symbolic. If White’s whimpering was enough to exile me, what about Amber? Beautiful, elegant Amber. What happens when Castiel or Earl cries for her?”

“You give her permanent custody and keep Hades.” Nimo replied, supping beer easily. “Of course, if he wants her too, you let him go. Of what use is it keeping a man that does not want to be kept? You tried that with Cassius in your last life, and you ended up dead.”

Sunshine narrowed her eyes. “Hades is not Cassius. Don’t compare them.”

Nimo chuckled. “In that case, you have nothing to worry about. Suni if Hades wanted Amber, he would have sought her out years ago. He would not wait until now to reconcile. How would he benefit from resurrecting an old terrible marriage?”

Sunshine wiped her eyes on the back of her jacket. Nimo was making sense. There were no benefits to the reunion. Amber had been unfaithful. Hades was not the most forgiving man so he would never take Amber back.

The door opened, Warren came in with Hades. He was wearing the same shorts, a shirt that was buttoned the wrong way and mismatched boots. A sign that he had left the house quickly.

He did not approach Sunshine immediately even though his eyes found her within five seconds. He sat by the bar and asked for peanuts and a glass of wine.

Meanwhile Nimo had come to a conclusion that she was sharing with her friend. “Suni, you are actually in love.” she said softly, with a smile. “You are scared because you love him and those children. I am happy for you. But you should remember always that blended families are not without complications, and you must be patient. He has children, you have White. He has Amber, you have Alfred. It sounds to me like you two need to talk more about boundaries and expectations.”

Sunshine wiped her eyes again. Again, Nimo had hit the nail right on the head. Even the part about White being hers. If she separated from Hades, the bear would be going with her while the boys would stay with him. So, she had her own child or cub in their mixed family!

Nimo reached across the table, squeezing Sunshine’s hand. “I envy you for having relationship drama. Tonight, I sat next to Dwayne for ten minutes and he did not say a word to me.

Well…he did ask if I made it back from the mission without any injury but that was all. Sometimes I think he is opening up to me and then he shuts up and I am left in a state of confusion.”

Sunshine tapped her friend’s hand. The Nimo-Dwayne situation-ship was not one she could comment on anymore. She had said all she could on the matter. But she wanted to encourage her friend the same way she had been encouraged. “He asked you about your injuries, I think that is a sign of something.”

“He kicked me aside for a beer after. At least you were kicked out for a cute rival.” Nimo muttered.

They chuckled.

Sunshine looked over at Dwayne, and he was looking at them. Nimo to be specific. He had that look in eyes, the one he always had when he was considering something serious. “Dwayne is looking at you.” She whispered to her friend.

Nimo turned her head to confirm this personally. As soon as she did, he looked away.

Nimo sighed pitifully. “Maybe I need to be cute like White. Dwayne seems to like the fluffy little cub. Do you think it’s the big eyes or the fur?”

Sunshine raised her brows. “And what will you do if it’s the fur?”

Nimo shrugged. “Grow more hair on my body.”

They chuckled again, both knowing Nimo would never do that in a thousand years.

Sunshine raised her hand, asking for more beer. It had been an emotional hour; she needed to drink and laugh with her friend.

Ariel was home with his grandparents. He would never know that she had taken a few beers anyway.
