Chapter 360: All side with White.
Dinner was a theatrical play of betrayal. Sunshine was still the biggest villain in the house, or the base or maybe even the entire world.

To make peace, she tried to coax White with kindness, even bringing out her special experimental coconut bean and bee honey.

“White, sweetie, would you like some?” She asked, pushing the spoon toward him.

White leaned in and opened his mouth. Sunshine smiled victoriously. Suddenly, the little bear turned his head and clung to Hades’ arm, sniffling dramatically. Sunshine groaned and threw the spoon on the plate.

“Seriously!” She exclaimed aloud, “you are clinging to him. You don’t even like him.”

Hades grinned. He stroked White’s fur like he was cradling a newborn baby. “Now, honey, don’t let the jealousy make you lose your patience.”

Castiel chimed in, “Mommy, stop. You are upsetting White. He is just a fragile baby.”

Rori and the other boys chuckled.

Sunshine was aghast. Had Castiel forgotten in whose defense she had stepped up? If anyone was betrayed, it was her. And White was not as fragile as everyone was making him out to be. She had once seen the alien bear punch a sandbag so hard that it split. Which baby had that much strength?

Apparently tonight, he had the emotional constitution of a tissue paper!

“White…” She picked up the spoon and tried again.

The bear whimper.

“Mom, maybe just stop talking.” Ariel suggested.

Determined to prove that she could fix it, she tried to coax White again. But every time she spoke, the bear whimpered. When she reached for her food, it whimpered. When she tried to touch Hades, it burst into cries and clutched him tighter. By dessert, she was eating key lime pie from the kitchen by Tank’s side while watching everyone feed White spoonfuls of her coconut bean bee honey mixture like he was a royal prince.

She thought bedtime would be the end of the mommy villainess era. After putting the children to bed, she took a shower and slid under the covers, ready to embrace her husband and discuss the ridiculousness of White’s behavior.

But as soon as she touched Hades’ arm, White threw a tantrum. He groaned, kicked, flailed and howled like a siren. Hades sat up, alarmed. He switched on the lights, comforting the little bear.

“Ariel brought him over while you were in the bathroom. He was crying again.” He told her.

Sunshine huffed.

“Honey,” he said softly, “I think you should sleep in the guest bedroom, the children’s room or the couch tonight. White needs space.”

“Space? He is an alien bear I rescued in an alien forest that has more than enough space!” She protested.

Their bedroom door was pushed open. All three children and Tank stood there.

“Mommy, please. You’re scaring White.” Castiel said, rubbing his eyes.

The three children trotted over to the bed, to comfort their youngest bear sibling.

And so, Sunshine was exiled. Banished from her own bed by a creature she had spoiled and pampered to the heavens. It was a restless night for her in the space where she hammered away and repaired broken things, while scoffing and huffing.

In the morning, she approached the table cautiously for breakfast. But the fighting spirit within her was aroused. If White threw one more tantrum, he was getting a spanking.

As soon as she sat down, White whimpered.

“No… absolutely not.” Sunshine said sternly.

White hid his head in Hades’ chest.

“This is ridiculous,” Sunshine said. “I am your wife, Hades. He is a bear. His mother gave him to me, so I am his mother now. I have every right to punish him if he is doing wrong.”

Hades sighed, pouring white and a whole lot of unnecessary honey into White’s milk bottle. “Honey, he is just sensitive because it is the first time you spoke so sternly to him. And he is not even a year old yet. If he was a human baby, would you punish him? He is sensitive. You have to understand.”

“Sensitive! He is not a human baby, and he has more strength and understanding than a human baby.” She reminded him.

Hades sighed. “He knows he was wrong. Next time, just don’t make him cry over the milk….”

Sunshine nearly exploded. “I think everyone has forgotten how this started. I was trying to help our child…you know…the human one.”

Castiel spoke up, “It was not a big deal mommy.” He patted White’s arm.

The two laughed.

Sunshine reached for her coffee which was very hot. White whimpered. It was just like dinner all over again. She stood up, raising her hands in surrender. “You know what, I will leave before I am booted off the island.”

She ended up in the hospital, checking herself in for White related stress induced chest pains. The doctors were not quite sure what to make of it. Nimo had been visiting Nusra and Leah. All the women ended up in Sunshine’s hospital room.

As they enjoyed the alien foods breakfast assortment, Sunshine recounted the milk war and the saga that followed.

“So, you mean to tell us,” Nimo said, “that your husband kicked you out of bed for a bear?”

Sunshine nodded.

The women laughed.

“And your children sided with the bear?” Nusra asked.

“All three of them!!” Sunshine squealed. “They betrayed me, those icicles. You should have seen them looking at me as if I had grown horns and black wings, with a pitchfork in hand trying to take a bite out of the bear.”

Her friends burst into laughter, which only fueled Sunshine’s indignation.

“It was ridiculous, he cried once and suddenly I was a villain. Through dinner, they looked at me like I was plotting against him. I could not even take a sip of water without being accused of cruelty.”

Nimo fell on the bed, wiping tears from her eyes. “It serves you right for spoiling that creature.”

“You do baby him a lot.” Nusra pointed out.

“Luxury baby socks, gloves, baby hats, blankets, the best milk, personal tab, soft mattress, the best fruits….” Nimo mentioned some of the things that were overly exaggerated. “A stroller that costs sixteen thousand dollars. The bear can walk but they push it around!! It is ridiculous.”

“So, what is your plan?” Leah asked her.

Sunshine gestured around the room. “My plan is to run away from home. As long as I am not around, they will realize that they cannot live without me and then come groveling.”

Leah snorted. “Ah, emotional blackmail. The one card every wife and mother stores for emergency.”

Sunshine shrugged. “What else am I supposed to do? Should I cry louder than White?”

The three women laughed.

“I seem to recall Castiel saying something about you asking Hades to apologize to your baby bear before. Your husband must be getting revenge.” Nimo suggested.

Sunshine sipped her coffee. She wondered if that was truly the case.

“Or maybe he just figured that this is the best way to keep the peace in the family.” Nusra countered. “He comforts the bear and convinces it to forgive you. Everyone is happy and the story gets a happy ending for everyone.”

Sunshine put down the coffee cup and laid her head down on the pillow. She sighed softly before chuckling. How had her life come to this? She now had to compete with her own bear for affection or dominance.

“This place and the things that happen are so unbelievable that it makes me wonder if we are truly living in an apocalypse.” Leah said.

The door burst in and one panicked man, three little boys and a bear rushed in.
