Chapter 352: Man Vs Crocodylus….2
Even though they had prepared for this, many still froze. Those who were on the back of the female maintained careful balance so as not to be jostled off. What stunned them all was its size. Even Sunshine had not expected it to be so big.

It was nearly twice the size of the first one.

“Tell me that is a dragon.” Philip muttered

“Nope,” Nimo said grimly. “Daddy’s home.”

Daddy, as Nimo called him did not waste a moment. The male charged forward, smashing through carcasses of dead mutated beasts, two hills of snow, frozen trees and debris.

The watchers who were enjoying the show made sounds that sounded like cheering. And they were not alone in the joy. The snow was faster, wind howling louder, seeming to cheer on the beast.

“Finish mother beast off.” Sunshine shouted.

The team split again, and the strongest ones leapt to face the second. Sunshine was using ice walls and lightning to slow it down, working with Tommy in sync. From above, riding the wind, Leah was damping snow on its head interfering with its vision.

On the mother beast meanwhile, Philip was sprinting along its back, melting icy ridges, Father Nicodemus was following, slashing as soon as he finished. The beast was roaring in pain, blood was pouring from the wounds.

“This feels like juggling balls.” Philip screamed in frustration.

“What balls?” Siegfried asked.

It was a joke, but Philip did not laugh. “I am juggling fire on the back of a mutated crocodile in a blizzard! Not the time to ki-ki and ha-ha.” He shot back. “Now where is that ball sac?”

As soon as he finished the question, they found the sac just below the next ridge. It pulsed violently, glowing bright red. Father Nicodemus plunged his blade into it. The sac burst, spraying an orange thick blood like goo over them and across the snow. The mother bead roared, collapsing into the poisoned water.

“Gross.” Philip groaned.

Father Nicodemus wasted no time. He flew over to Nimo and Nala, grabbing the hoses from their hands. Meanwhile, Dominic and Morris untangled the net from the mother beast’s head. They had another crocodylus to trap.

The beast shattered another ice wall with a single stomp and Sunshine groaned, raising another one in its place. “Net the damn head already.” She screamed.

Leah and Father Nicodemus grabbed the net from Dominic and and Morris. Working together, the team wrapped the net around the beast’s head. It thrashed, smashing snow piles into avalanches. The ground turned slippery and they started losing their footing.

All the superhumans with strength held on, waiting for the net to constrict the head completely.

“Does anyone else feel like we are gift wrapping a Halloween nightmare?” Philip joked.

Sunshine laughed. “It does happen to be independence week. So, happy holidays. Now find the damn sac already.”

Superhumans launched themselves on the back of the beast and the search for the sac started. Morris was the one that found it, but Leah blasted him away wind. She stood atop the beast and blasted the sac with compressed wind. It ruptured, a similar goo from the first one spilled. The beast collapsed beside its mate, both finally defeated.

The air quietened. Watchers flew away and mutated beasts started to flee. Superhumans pursued them, on a mission to rid Busker of the beast plague. Trucks drove into the town; more soldiers joined the fight.

When it ended, Sunshine moved between the soldiers, taking count. Their side had not been without damage. Three teammates were injured–one crushed under the avalanche and still unconscious. Another had been dragged by a mutated wolf; it ripped off one of his shoes and took his leg before it was killed. He needed surgery.

Morris had an aching butt, a consequence of being thrown off the crocodylus’s back by Leah.

“No death.” Major Elio said to Sunshine as they watched the two soldiers being placed on pods to be transported back to the medic bay. “They will survive.”

Sunshine nodded.

The squads regrouped, tending to those with minor injuries. Others took on the task of collecting the mutated beast meat.

Sunshine led Tank away, following the path which Lisha had mapped out for her. She found the glowing thing that they had seen on the camera. A rat was sleeping next to it, and she froze and shattered it.

Other than the rat, there was something else nestled in the same place: eggs. Massive and glowing.

It looked like a pale stone, resting beneath piles of frozen meteors. As far as could tell, it was a part of the meteors themselves as it seemed to be attached to one. When she reached her hand out to touch it, she felt an unexplainable warmth being pulled into her body.

“Suni…” Nimo called from behind.

Sunshine sent the stone into her space and stood up. “Over here, you won’t believe what I found.”

Nimo stumbled onto her. Other members of zero squad had also followed.

“Please tell me the Easter Bunny lives here.” Philip muttered.

“Nope,” Nimo said, staring grimly. “We found round two.”

Philip laughed. “When the movie ends and it says, to be continued…I have always hated that shit.” He touched the trigger of his weapon. “I like proper endings.”

“Do you like omelettes?” Elio asked him.

“I am not eating that shit.” Philip made a look of disgust.

Father Nicodemus crouched down, touching one of the eggs. He very much wanted to advocate for the eggs not to be harmed. Every living creature was worthy of life. And yet…he looked at his hands. They were already stained with blood.

His mood became grim as he stood up. “I am going back to the base.” Without waiting, he flew away.

“I would hate to be him.” Someone said.

Major Elio sighed. He had seen that look in the eyes of the priest before. Soldiers who struggled with what they had done for the greater good. He would need to sit down with the priest and have a talk.

“We need to decide on what to do with the eggs.” Nimo said. “Should we destroy them? Should they be taken back and studied?”

“I…..” Sunshine started and stopped when a cracking sound was heard, and orange goo spilled onto the snow.

With one blast of wind, Leah had made the decision for everyone. “When you see and identify a threat, neutralize it before it can kill you. If I had done that with Moon, my children would not be dead.” She turned and walked away, head hung low, grief screaming loudly from her body.

Dominic followed her.

As everyone processed what had just happened, Phillip burned the goo. When it was finished, Sunshine distributed the boxes with bubbles. Busker was officially Fortress four territory.

It was time to claim the rest of the towns around.
