Chapter 343: Shocking rates.
Using the very tablet she was holding, Sunshine looked up Hadrian’s health stats. From first sight, they appeared to be normal.
Heart Rate: 69 bpm
Blood Pressure: 118/76 mmHG
BMI: 23.4
Sleep Cycle: 7 hours average, consistent REM phases.
Muscle Density: 102% of average for age group.
Cognitive Response Time: 0.22 seconds [Slightly above average.]
Genetic Markers: No detected mutations or anomalies.
Behavioral Notes: Calm, easily excitable, punctual.
No special abilities. No fancy tricks. By all means, it appeared like he Just had excellent timing and precision.
The simulation adapted, sending five more creatures from the corners. Hadrian’s breathing quickened, but his focus never wavered. He ducked beneath the claws, landed clean strikes at weak points and used the environment itself a wall here, a broken pipe there_ to his advantage. When the beast lunged, he drove his blade into its throat and finished it with a sharp kick that shattered its rib cage in a burst of digital fragments.
By the time the last creature fell, the hall had gone quiet.
Hadrian straightened, panting, his hands trembling slightly from exertion. He spat to the side, half-smiling. “Is that all it’s got?”
“Simulation complete.” Sounded the computer announced.
He was given an intermediate rating, the same as the best superhumans on the base. This made Sunshine even more uneasy. Something was wrong.
[Exceptional reflexes and adaptability. Peak human level mastery but there is room for improvement.]
Sunshine frowned at the explanation of the system. There had to be more to it than this. “Scan all of his data, including biometric information from his check up after the rat attack.”
“How did I do?” Hadrian shouted to Sunshine.
She smiled stiffly and gave him a thumbs up. “Average but better than most.”
“Average, huh? Guess I’ll take that for a guy with no superpowers.” He smirked at the superhumans, rubbing the victory in. Many had received the same rating from Sunshine. They were probably not too pleased to be in the same category as he was.
But, what they did not know was that he trained hard and pushed himself to keep up with them and Hades who had the advantage of the robot leg.
He was determined not to let the superhuman get the advantage over their Quinn family.
Sunshine smirked arms crossed. “My average means that you did really good.” She announced loudly for everyone to hear.
Hadrian nodded, rolling his shoulders as he stepped off the field. The others_ some still stunned, parted to make way for him.
He wasn’t the strongest, fastest or most gifted. But in that moment, every fighter there knew one thing_
If Hadrian Quinn ever stepped into a real battle, you’d want him on your side.
“System, have you found anything?”
[His brain scan shows an unusual dendritic growth in the parietal lobe, forming….]
“System, I might shoot myself in my parietal lobe if you explain this to me in such terms. Just break it down into two. Awakening or not awakening?”
[There are trace elements of a foreign protein that appears to self-repair in seconds. His immune cells exhibit swarm intelligence, rerouting…]
Sunshine growled.
Some people looked her way. She smiled and waved.
[He is awakening.]
She exhaled. “Was that too hard to say?
[He is likely to awaken reflex related superpowers, speed being the most likely one. Other options are Bioharmonic healing which is the ability to emit low frequency vibrations that accelerate cellular repair not just for himself but others too.
Or, phase veil abilities. In your language, invisibility. I noticed that his speed has some abnormalities that are almost glitch like. You don’t notice some of his moves until he has already made them.”
Hades stepped onto the field, Sunshine felt her heart tug with amusement. He looked nervous, scratching his head. Hades was a physically fit man but had very little knowledge when it came to combat skills. But lately he had been training a lot and hoped to show that here.
“You can do this babe!” Sunshine clapped continuously, cheering him on. “Woooh.”
“Where was that enthusiasm when I was out there?” Hadrian shouted to her.
“You are not my babe.” She answered.
Some people chuckled.
The simulation spawned medium sized flying insects. Hades picked up a baton and tried to swing_ but the insect dodged effortlessly and smacked him on the back of the head. “Ow!”
Laughter rippled through the crowd.
He tried again and hit two, then again and missed, then again only to miss harder.
Sunshine had a feeling that her babe was not going to shine out here. But then, he grabbed a net and started spinning. In the end, he captured all the insects.
Most people remained silent when he was finished. It was hard to decide if he was excellent or lucky.
“Wooh, fair babe. Awesome.” Sunshine clapped her hands.
O’Toole whispered to Major Elio, “You know that kid on the team that sucks but he has a hot enthusiastic mom so the coach keeps letting him play anyway?”
They both guffawed.
“This is not fair! Do it again with bigger animals that I can kick.” Hades demanded.
Sunshine chuckled and marched to the field, leading him away slowly. “No honey, you do not get to tell the mist which animals to send. Besides, you can’t kick or punch everything. And you are an excellent thinker. The net and spin was a genius idea.”
He blushed. “Really?”
Sunshine nodded. “Absolutely. How else would someone capture so many insects at once? If I was in the midst of an insect swarm, you are the one person I would want by my side.”
She was loud enough for all those near by to eavesdrop.
Major Elio scoffed.
Hadrian rolled his eyes.
Geoff came next, and he did worse than Hades. He died within five seconds of the battle starting.
“How did he end up on squad zero?” Sunshine asked Major Elio.
Major Elio shrugged. “Maybe he is having a bad day.”
“Hmmm.” Was her response. “Nice try, I am sure you will do better next time.” She shouted to Geoff.
“I miscalculated my first move.” He sighed with disappointment.
Sunshine blew her whistle. “Quick thinking and speed, that is how you will save your lives. Do not just focus on strength.”
Phillip stepped up confidently. He deflected hits smoothly, countered with precise blasts of fire and a sword. He ended the battle efficiently.
[Average. Balanced technique. Ability management stable. Creativity limited.]
Morris was next and he roared as his body expanded, towering over the beasts. His fists and feet crashed everything in reach, making some people wince. Even when he was injured, he was unstoppable.
[Average. Power and skills unmatched, he moves blindly. His energy recovery time is too long. Needs more time to train his skills and match them with his strength.]
Greg with his metallic skin, endured every blow and struck back with steel hard punches. Sparks flew as metal clashed against claws.
[Average. Outstanding endurance. Low adaptability under heat simulation.]
Then came Nala. Everyone was interested in her because Nala was one of the toughest women on the base. She fought recklessly, like every battle was life or death for her. But it was the most mesmerizing thing about her.
Sunshine watched closely, curious. The moment the simulation started, she raised her arm and let out a loud scream.
When the beasts lunged, she moved like water. Each gesture shattered the monsters into particles of light. No wasted motion, no over exertion. Her energy signature was balanced perfectly between offense and defense.
When she finished, the tab slipped out of Sunshine’s hands and fell to the ground.
[Superior. Complete synchronization and physical flow. Combat harmony achieved.]
Hades picked up the tab, and read the results out loud. Everyone was stunned.
“Well,” Sunshine said in a shocked voice, “Looks like we’ve got a prodigy.”
The squads clapped, some in disbelief, others in admiration. Nala simply bowed slightly and stepped aside.
“Do not be so modest with my rating Suni.” Nimo said as she stepped on the field. Enormous creatures shrouded in black mist; they lunged but Nimo sent each one to death with one blow. They shattered in particles of light that spiraled upwards.
[Superior. Precise perfect moves. Absolute killer intent. Zero injuries sustained. Emotional calm maintained under heavy strain and excellent defense.]
“Superior!!!” Hades exclaimed. “Most of the men are rated average here, how is it possible that the women are beating us?”
Major Elio grabbed the tab in disbelief. “No way, my shots were precise.”
“And that is how you do it gentlemen.” Nimo pointed at the group of men.
Sunshine folded her arms as the others clapped, pride swelling quietly in her chest. “All those that make it to average and above will be going to hunt the crocodylus….you have one day to work together in synchronicity like a wave.”
