Chapter 342: Watch and learn.
When it came to testing electokinesis, more people than required stepped into the Grid. Everyone wanted to watch just because Sunshine had called it the most fun test.
There were only two people with that ability on the base, her and Tommy. He had acquired it before she did but she had mastered it faster than him.
So, she was the one showing him what to do. Lights were blinking beneath their feet as they moved. Random music was playing, slow and disorganized.
“We are doing just two moves, control your field and make it dance.” She said to Tommy.
Tommy nodded nervously but he focused.
“Make finger guns and fire at the disco like orb while moving like a dancer.” She told him.
He followed her movements, tuning out the laughter and teasing of other superhumans. Some like Philip were itching to join them and try a hand at it. He was sure his fire could create better music.
They kept at it until they became a perfect duo, and the grid lit up in a perfect disco pattern. The disorganized music changed to a familiar song, “Stayin Alive.”
From the sidelines, Philip was already rotating his waist, “Oh yeah, I have the rhythm baby. I will teach you how to boogy.”
It was impossible for others to resist, and some stepped onto the floor. Lights up beneath them as they started following the patterns without using their powers.
“Is this part of the test?” Doctor Sing asked Doctor Chloe.
She shook her head. “It is not but I have a feeling that it will be the most used device among the rest.”
Hadrian was also frowning, thinking of a bigger problem that they had. If the billionaires found out about it, they would be clamoring to use it. With this, they would not need to build a nightclub. They could just borrow the device.
As if he heard Hadrian’s thoughts, Major Elio said, “We better hide it from the rich loafers.”
“Do you want to bet that they will know about it before nightfall?” O’Toole asked him.
Major Elio sighed.
“You are thinking about bringing your daughter here, aren’t you?” O’Toole asked him.
Hadrian raised his head and looked at the two men. The blush on Major Elio’s cheeks was all the answer he needed.

The measuring session was done. The scientists had gone off to rank the superhumans in classes according to their results.
Human and superhumans from different squads were gathered in the indoor field. It was loud, they were catching up like long lost relatives.
Major Elio signaled the group with a blast of his whistle.
When everyone quietened down, Sunshine clapped her hands loudly. “Alright listen up!” She called, her voice carrying across the hall. The squads straightened.
“We only have two days…..two days before we form a team that will take down the crocodylus ultimus. I believe that you have all seen the footage of the beast and those who haven’t have heard about it at least. We will not be going as different squads but one team.
We will be handpicking the best from each team to join this mission. Therefore training is only going to get even more intense and more competitive. I expect you all to give it your best.”
A few murmurs rippled through the group.
“This simulation,” Sunshine continued, will determine your chances of being on the team. No favoritism, no luck. Just results. Everyone will get a chance to participate.”
The squads energy surged with excitement and anxiety. Sunshine folded her arms, a faint smile curling her lips. “Let’s begin with squad zero” He eyes moved to Major Elio.
Cheers came from the others as the members of that squad moved to the sides of the field.
Major Elio squared his shoulders. His sharp eyes glinted like polished glass as he adjusted his gloves and attached goggles and a sensory attachment wire to the back of his neck.
“Watch and learn.” He told his students.
The simulation shimmered, from the fog emerged beasts modeled after the horrors of Busker_ razor hounds. Major Elio drew out a rubber bullet riffle and dashed forward.
The beasts charged snarling. Elio moved swiftly, firing precise shots that exploded against their weak points. Each bullet struck with surgical precision_ between the ribs, through the skulls, across the tendons. The razor hounds fell one after another, but the simulation adapted: new creatures leaped from the sides, faster, stronger.
Elio rolled, avoiding a swipe of the tail that grazed his arm. The simulation registered pain simulation active. He grunted, his expression tightening, but kept firing. Finally the last beast dissolved into pixels.
“It is harder than it looks.” He said to the others. “And the pain…I actually felt that. You left that part out.”
Dr. Chloe smiled. “Ooops, I forgot.”
As the others clapped and cheered, Sunshine was in a state of shock. She had a tablet on which she was monitoring the results of each participant.
Major Elio was ranked intermediate.
“System, didn’t you say that this simulation settings were made for kids?”
[Yes host]
“And yet, it just ranked one of the best fighters of this base as intermediate?” She grimaced.
[There are areas that he has to improve on. Besides, the kids from upper worlds are a lot stronger than adult humans from earth.]
“Now that makes a lot of sense.” Sunshine nodded slowly.
Dominic took the field next. Calm, tall, with a strand of silver hair swept to the side, he cracked his knuckle and closed his eyes.
When the simulation activated, a group of six simulated creatures appeared, all charging at once . Dominic’s eyes opened, glowing faint violet. One by one the creatures froze mid-attack, their legs trembling in the air.
He did not say a single word and yet the six creatures turned on each other in chaos, striking with blind fury until only one was left standing. But it was wounded and on the brink of death. With one stomp of his foot, he crushed it to death.
Gasps filled the room, many had never seen what he had displayed.
“What has he done?” Major Elio shouted to Sunshine.
She shrugged.
She was processing shock as his ranking came out similar to Elio’s.
“System, why is he intermediate?”
[He has displayed accuracy in mind control but drained himself. It is like using too many resources to accomplish a small task. With more practice, he can do much better. But until then, he is not impressive.]
Sunshine gasped.
“What?” Dominic asked.
She faked a smile quickly. “Not bad, Dominic. I don’t know what you did but it was amazing.”
“I just made them afraid of my strength.” He lied. “My strength powers evolved or they are unique. I give off the same aura as a predator.”
Sunshine nodded. In the back of her mind she thought, keep lying. “Next”
Hadrian stepped forward, he was not a superhuman like the others. Just an ordinary man in an expensive training vest, scars on his knuckles, and that sharp, dangerous calm in his eyes. The kind of calm that came from surviving too many street fights as a teenager and never once backing down.
A few recruits whispered among themselves saying he would not qualify, some even smirked. Sunshine didn’t. She’d seen Hadrian fight before. She knew what he could do.
The simulation shifted_ the field darkened into ruins of broken alleyway, echoing with metallic groans and faint foot steps. From the shadows emerged three creatures _ beasts with glowing ribs and bone-plated skulls, each twice his size.
Hadrian cracked his neck once. “Let’s get this over with.”
The creatures pounced together. He didn’t move until the last second.
Then_ snap! _ his body twisted low, fist with hold up knuckles rising in a perfect arc. He struck the first creature under the jaw so hard that it’ head jerked sideways in a blur of sparks. The second came from behind; Hadrian spun, caught its foreleg mid-swipe, and used it’s own weight to smash the third.
Gasps echoed among those that had never seen him fight and those who had done so. This was not the kind of thing an ordinary human could do with ease.
“Are you sure he is human?” Nimo asked Sunshine.
Sunshine was frowning. “I will need to look at his thermal band stats ASAP.”
