Chapter 328: The billionaires demands.
The cars stopped in the third wall. The billionaires refused to step out.
“It is a trick.” Jin declared. “The moment we step out, you will abandon us here.”
“Like you abandoned Phaedra.” Hades replied sarcastically.
Jin gasped.
“What happened to Phaedra?” Jon leaned forward, very curious.
Hades stepped out of the car and ordered them out. “You need to go through detoxification before going any further.” He looked at Jon’s head. “Especially you with your rat chewed patches. In case the mutant rats laid eggs or left babies in your hair.”
Jon squealed, rushing out of the car. “What are you waiting for?” He shouted. “Cut my hair off, hurry.” He broke into a run, going in the wrong direction.
Dwayne ran after him. But before he reached, Father Nicodemus swooped down and carried Jon off. The man’s squealing became louder.
Hades shook his head and turned to the rest of the billionaires. “Do you need the priest to fly you over as well?”
They shook their heads, rushing out of the cars. They had already realized that Hades was not giving them a choice.
Thirty minutes later, they all arrived at the inner wall and straight away, the cars delivered them to the medic bay. It was fairly crowded, humming with soft machines and the soft whirling of air purifiers.
Nurse Kendall led the men to the VIP section and a team of medical professionals that waiting started their full body checkups.
All were declared healthy even though Kris demanded for his scratch to be sutured because he did not want scars on his precious flawless skin.
Jin asked for vitamin shots, and Jon asked for his scalp to be scanned.
Sheldon complained about his nightmares which had been going on for two nights.
They complained about all the little things. To them, every ache was a potential emergency, over sweating and relentless nights were a sign of potential disease. The medics were frustrated, but no one dared to complain except for Earl who threatened to report to his parents if they continued making unreasonable demands.
“You would not be here if not for nepotism.” Jon told him.
Ten seconds later, he screamed loudly. Then, everyone noticed Earl smiling victoriously beside Jon, an empty syringe in his hand.
“I just gave him a common sense shot, no need to worry.” The little one declared.
“Hades…..” Jon screamed.
Earl raised the syringe again. “This is a hospital, keep your voice down.”
Outside the door, Hades ignored the chaos. He was making calls to the core management team_ those available, telling them to gather in the boardroom.
“Is there an emergency?” Sunshine asked. “There is no meeting scheduled today.”
“It’s about territory expansion,” he told her just like he told the rest. “I have great news.”
His declaration was enough to get everyone’s attention.
When the last of the billionaires were done, Hades escorted them out himself, walking them through the inner areas of the base.
“Now this is a place to call home.” Sheldon declared as they passed the gardens. He winked at Professor Peach who happened to be passing by.
She shuddered and looked away from the men.
“Who is that?” He asked.
“A woman capable of poisoning you to death.” Hades replied. “Keep it in your pants Sheldon or date one woman at a time and make it clear what your goals are. I do not want your whoring creating problems on my base.”
Sheldon laughed. “I call it equal opportunity investment.”
Hades snorted.
“I heard some of the best female singers and actresses in the country live in this base.” Sheldon smiled slyly.
Dwayne scoffed and said to Hades. “Suni’s hammer is going to love breaking his bones.”
“And I cannot wait.” Hades replied.
They walked all the way to the command center. Inside the board room lights glowed softly, casting warm light over the steel and glass surfaces. The room was filled with the usual faces but today there was a new man seated at the far end of the trouble.
He gave off a strong aura, and his eyes screamed predator.
Sheldon’s eyes narrowed. “Who’s that?” He asked bluntly, his voice cutting through the murmurs.
“That is Dominic.” Hades replied as he sat down beside his wife.
Sunshine’s voice was leveled but sharp. “You will all be seeing a lot of him. Going forth, Dominic Steward is going to be among the topmost leaders of our base. Hadrian and Dwayne are Hades’ left hand. Dominic and Father Nicodemus are his right hand.”
Murmurs spread across the table.
“Who is he?”
“What is happening?”
“What is so special about him?”
Hades smacked the table. “Since when has my wife made a decision that has not benefited all of us? Just accept the decision.”
Dominic did not say a word. But the sharp look in his eyes was enough to quieten the whispers.
Sunshine said nothing to defend her decision. Instead, she turned to her husband motioning him to take over.
Hades cleared his throat, his deep voice slicing the room. “There will be some changes in the base. Jon can tell you all about his proposal.”
Jon sat forward, his expression cautious. “After yesterday’s attack, our bases lost a lot of manpower. We have come to the realization that they can no longer stand on their own as they are at a brink of collapse.” He said. “With Fortress four expanding, we thought that maybe our bases would come under Fortress four. One leadership. One bubble shield.”
There was silence, the kind that settled before big decisions. Naturally most eyes found Sunshine’s, waiting for her response.
Morris was the first to break it, “I have a request as well. The rats left the stone village in complete ruins. Half of the people that remained back did not make it. I drove over this morning with a team of medics that helped. The few surviving villagers have finally decided to come to live here. Does the offer still stand?”
“Yes of course.” Sunshine said, her tone softening. “The villagers are always welcome; they do not demand ridiculous things like some of our guests here.” Her eyes flickered at the billionaires. “Yeah, I heard about your rude behavior at the medic bay.”
Jon quickly spoke up, figuring that it concerned Earl. “It will not happen again especially after we move here.”
“Of course not. I will tolerate it.” Sunshine answered.
Kris nodded. “Listen, some of us are not as complicated as you think. All I want is to be comfortable. Live happy. Maybe a little luxury, that’s all. You promised us all of that in return of the investment.”
The others nodded and murmured in agreement.
Sunshine turned to Sheldon whose smug grin was already forming. “And you? You are the most secretive and cunning of the group. If you move here, my rules have to be obeyed, and all your foolishness has to curbed.”
He shrugged. “I am an easy man; I have the same demands as my friends. Comfort. Respect. I do not expect to be treated like a low life, and I want to be on this committee. Our homes are part of Fortress four now, I get a say on how things are run around here.”
“Not that your say will mean much.” Carson stated. Everyone on the core team was an advisor, they did not make the final decisions.
Sheldon looked at him. “Yes, it does, we may be in the apocalypse, but I am still wealthy, you need my money and seeds. I am bringing resources to the table, and I am sure some of you here brought nothing.”
There was a single gasp and some offended looks.
Father Nicodemus let out a loud sigh. “This is why the Bible says, it is easier for the camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Sheldon scoffed. “I am atheist, dude. I could care less. Also, I am pretty sure you are not supposed to pass judgement as a priest. The reality here is that we are handing over our resources and independence, we need to make sure that we are not signing up for a dictatorship. Is that too much to ask for?”
