Chapter 319: News of Rowena’s death.
“Next,” Sunshine said. “We do everything we can to make them want to stay.”

Hades still maintained a frown. “I don’t think they will be willing to stay once they realize that Moon is not here. I really cannot fathom how a tragedy like this happened to them. If someone poisoned our children, I would go after them as well.”

Sunshine sighed. “That poor woman.” She shook her head, “What makes this so much worse is the fact that Aliana did not die in the apocalypse in her last life. She was young but fierce. One of Zenith’s most proud superhumans. Dominic dotted on that girl apparently. I think she had a sibling too…..I am not sure.”

“He did say children.” Hades reminded her.

Sunshine wrapped her arms around herself. “I should have killed her the moment I opened my eyes and discovered that I was reborn.”

Hades reached out and grabbed her hand. “I hope that is not blame I hear in your voice honey. If you look at the timeline, Moon awakened before you. And then, you had other things to accomplish before the apocalypse started.”

“I could have spared ten seconds to slit her throat.” She replied. “Now she is out there wreaking havoc on the world because…..”

He squeezed her hand again and cut her off. “Because she is a bad person and it is not your fault. You are neither her mother nor father. You both got a second chance. She is using hers in the wrong way and eventually, the consequences will catch up to her.”

Sunshine exhaled, still feeling burdened by the thought of Moon’s existence.

“I wonder what happened to the Rainhounds base and Pastor Salem.” She raised her eyes, looking at her husband. “He is not the kind of man that would have let her go with all that knowledge she has.”

Hades shrugged. “Maybe she killed him too.”

Sunshine raised a finger slowly and lowered it. “You know what? That is not bad at all. At least it would mean one less bad person in the world.” She softened her voice. “But life doesn’t work that way sadly. Villains tend to live longer than heroes. Like poor Aliana, she is dead while Moon is alive and on the run.”

“She cannot run forever.” Hades said. Sooner or later, she would stop.

They remained in the reception room, exchanging ideas on what Moon had been up to. Hades was sure Moon would be heading to Eden. Sunshine was certain that her cousin was running to Crosstown.

Minutes later, they were informed that the guests were finally in the medic bay, so they drove over.

When they arrived Dr. May, one of the general doctors was already working on Leah. As she checked her pulse, her face darkened.

“Bad news?” Sunshine asked. Her eyes collided with Dominic’s who looked sick and worried.

“She’s malnourished. Weak. Even for a superhuman, her body had been pushed to the limit.” He turned to a nurse. “Bring the super blood.” Then he sent them all out.

Confusion pooled in Dominic’s eyes. “Super blood? What is that? She a blood group O.” He said rashly.

“Its blood infused with red blood cells from a superhuman with the ability to regenerate.”

Sunshine explained.

It was the next best option to Carson’s direct blood which she did not want other people getting their hands on. His memories had many secrets they didn’t need others learning about.

Dominic blinked, dumbfounded. “That can be done?”

A smile tugged on Sunshine’s lips. “There are a lot of incredible things that we do here, just take a look around.” Her face became more serious. “Why is she malnourished?”

Dominic’s voice cracked when he spoke. “Sadness has eaten Leah alive, my wife lives for vengeance.” He said softly. “We came straight from camp Zenith. We did not rest. We fought beasts along the way, our car broke down, and we met two snowstorms. But that did not deter my wife. She pushed herself harder and said her children would never eat again so she didn’t deserve to eat until she found their murderer.”

Sunshine’s heart arched at his words. That witch…..always leaving ruin wherever she went. “To have vengeance, you need to be in top form. A strong body and sound mind are the best weapons. She has to eat even if she doesn’t want to. What did Moon do to Aliana? Can you tell me about it?”

Dominic arched and eyebrow. “H-how did you know her name?”

“Oh, your wife she mentioned it. How else would I know.” Sunshine answered.

Dominic opened his mouth, trying to tell her the story but as he looked through the glass at his wife’s small pale frame, attached to tubes and machines. Surrounded by three doctors and two nurses. He found himself unable to get a single word out.

Ronda, with Dominic’s permission narrated the sorrowful tale.

“So, my aunt Rowena is really…dead?” Sunshine whispered, disbelief in her voice. She remembered how she struggled to protect her aunt and uncle until they abandoned her after they reunited with Moon.

Festus scoffed and said, “She died trying to save Moon, buying time for her and Dustin to escape.”

Sunshine scoffed, loudly at that. “I can authoritatively tell you that my aunt did not kill those children. She took the blame in place of Moon.”

“That is what Leah said.” Dominic turned around and said.

“She is spot on, trust her instincts.” Hades told him. “A mother always knows. And when it comes to Moon, just assume every word out of her mouth is a lie. It is better to cut her tongue out than let her talk.”

Dominic lowered his gaze briefly before asking. “Why do you hate her so much? Isn’t she your family?”

A sneer came from Sunshine. “Family my ass, I should have smacked her head with my hammer when I had the chance, none of this would have happened.” Her gaze hardened. “If I ever cross paths with her again, I will put her where she belongs, six feet under.”

Dominic stared at her sharply, as though trying to look through her. “You still have not told me what she did.”

“Story for another day.” Sunshine forced a smile on her face.

Doctor May finally invited them all inside. “She has wounds that have not healed yet. Some frost bite, and anemia. She also has a cold that has been untreated for too long. We have given her some antibiotics, red fang pills and super blood. I have also put her in a two day coma because her body needs the rest. The wonderful news is that she will be fine.”

Dominic thanked him, exhaling deeply.

“I will take care of the bill.” Ronda said.

“That is okay, Leah is a member of this base even though she turned down our invitation.” Sunshine said. “You are all welcome to stay here for as long as you need. And as for Moon, consider me an ally in your cause. An enemy of my enemy,” she met his eyes. ” Is my friend.”

Dominic gave a faint, tired smile and extended his hand. “Then we understand each other Mrs. Quinn.”

“Suni….or Sunshine.” She said quickly. “Mrs. Quinn is my mother-in-law.”

Hades rolled his eyes.

“Feel free to take a tour of our base and technology.” Sunshine said.

“Thank you but, I would rather stay by wife’s side.” He replied.

“I will watch her,” Nimo raised her hand “And so will our caring nurses. We are sure that sooner or later you might try to sneak around and see if we are hiding Moon. So, we are opening the base up to you. Poke around, ask questions, satisfy your curiosity.”

Dominic laughed a little. It was his plan indeed. “In that case, I will not be polite.”

Sunshine smiled stealthily. “Then allow me to personally show you to your residence in the first wall. Maybe we can get to know each other better.”

Hades quickly intervened. “Honey…” He caught her arm. “Remember that you are supposed to be resting, I will show the guests to their residence. Not just that, I will give Dominic a tour myself.” He pushed her gently in Nimo’s direction.

Hadrian came up and gestured at Dominic to start walking. “This way, hot stuff.”
