Chapter 318: Leah’s grief.
Dominic and his group were escorted to the reception room in the first wall. Even though they were superhumans, they all looked like they had been through hell. Their boots were wet, with armor cracked, faces hollow from exhaustion and clothes stained with blood. There were still snow flakes on their heads.

Dominic stood out the most. Even in the tired State, he carried himself with unshakable authority. Power radiated from him like quiet waves, he was just as Sunshine remembered, commanding without even trying.

“Elio, get someone to bring some warm food or porridge for our guests.” Hades ordered.

Dominic narrowed his eyes. “We are not here for food or pleasantries Mr. Quinn.” He said. “My name is Dominic Steward and this is my wife Leah.”

Hades motioned at them to sit but they remained standing.

Meanwhile, Sunshine was lost in her thoughts after Dominic introduced his wife. The woman was an icon in the apocalypse and she had crossed paths with her once. They never exchanged a single word. Leah had been leading a team of superhumans in a fight against a mutant beast.

She had was dressed in a robot suit, flying through the air like a bird. A few months later, news had spread of her death at the hands of a different mutant beast. It was because of her death that Dominic became the greatest hunter of mutant beasts. Wherever he passed, blood was left behind.

Leah probably didn’t know how devoted and loving a husband she had. Dominic had been the dream lover of many women in the apocalypse. Sunshine could not deny that she had considered it as well for a brief moment.

But with her scars and Cassius in her life, it was a fool’s dream and she had her own battles to fight. So, she never dwelled on it.

She wondered if fate would re-write itself for the couple.

Hades cleared his throat and tugged on her arm. She looked away from the Dominic and smiled at Leah. The only response she got in return was hostility.

“You have come a long way. You reject our hospitality and your demeanor is very unfriendly.” Hades started as he helped Sunshine sit in a chair. “What brings you here?”

Dominic’s eyes roamed around the reception room, noting the armed men and unarmed ones that were giving off an aura he had become familiar with: superhumans.

His mind was already calculating the odds they had of winning or losing if Moon was not surrendered. They would be overwhelmed but nonetheless, he would die trying to snap her neck.

Leah’s face twisted to show disgust. “I am here because you are harboring evil. I need you to hand it over.”

Gazes traded among the team from fortress four, they had no idea what they were talking about.

“Evil?” Sunshine asked, eyebrows raised.

“It!” Major Elio raised his brows. For some reason, he wondered if they were talking about the parrot, Zulu. It was the biggest troublemaker on the base.

Carson was wondering if they were talking about Father Nicodemus. That whole fallen angel thing was known to everyone on the mountain by now.

Dominic leaned against the table. “Mr. Quinn, you are known to be a fair and just man in your dealings and so am I. You are protecting someone that killed my children and destroyed our lives. We are here for her.”

“Excuse me? I have no idea who you speak of and I am going to request that you be clear in your wording. We should not go round and round. Who is this person?” Hades asked. Because they said children, he had one suspect in mind. “Is it Fifi Quinn? Because if that…..”

Leah flung a chair to the side with a burst of air startling everyone. “Moon! We want Moon Raine. Give her to me or I will summon a storm of wind that will destroy this mountain.” Her sobs bled into her shout, tears spilling uncontrollably down her cheeks.

At the mention of Moon’s name, the air in the reception room seemed to freeze. Sunshine lowered her head and cursed in her mind. Why was Moon haunting her? She regretted not flattening her cousin with a hammer before she run off in the night with Cassius and the rest of their annoying family.

Sunshine frowned. As far as she recalled, Aliana Steward was among the most outstanding next generation superhumans under the age of ten. Was she dead? And Moon was the one that killed her!!

Her stomach twisted painfully. She had known Moon was capable of cruelty, of betrayal and manipulation, but killing innocent children! That was the depth of evil even Sunshine had not imagined. Back then she thought that Moon had killed her out of rage and greed to become Cassius’ main wife but this proved otherwise.

She was capable of killing anyone to get her way. But what had she gone looking for with the Stewards? A gasp tore from her throat. Dominic!

Knowing Moon, she had set her eyes on another powerful man after realizing Cassius was a useless burden.

She shook her head, feeling pity for the couple. Their fate had changed, but in a much more cruel way. Whose bright idea had it been to let Moon be reborn in the first place?

The silence in the room was suffocating_ disbelief hung over the air like smoke. Not a single person spoke but they did not take their eyes off the couple, watching Dominic comfort his grieving wife.

Hades was the first to speak, his voice was rough. “As a parent myself, I cannot fathom what you are going through. I am so sorry about what happened to your children. Sadly, I hate to disappoint you but Moon Raine is not here.”

Leah shook her head violently, she had walked miles to come here because she was certain Moon had to have come here. “No,” she cried, her voice breaking. “You are lying! Even if her husband died, she is still a Quinn by marriage.” Her angry eyes shifted to Sunshine. “And you are her sister, you are hiding her, I know it.”

Hades turned towards her sharply, stunned. “My son is dead!? Cassius is dead?”

Sunshine slapped him lightly on the arm. “He is not our son.” She then turned her eyes to Leah. “I don’t know what Moon told you but we are not on good terms. I hate her more than you or as much as you. As for her being a widow, we don’t know about that. But I highly doubt that story too.”

Her words did little to calm the growing storm in the room.

Leah’s grief turned into rage. The more Hades and Sunshine denied knowing where Moon was, the more furious she became. Her breathing quickened and the air in the room started to shift.

“Alright calm the lady down before she gets hurt.” Nimo stretched her hands as she spoke to Dominic.

Currents of wind gathered around Leah, swirling around her like a terrible frame.

“Leah, honey, stop for a moment.” Dominic shouted, reaching for her, but she didn’t hear him.

With a wave of her hand, a powerful gust blasted through the reception room. Chairs screeched against the floor, the table slammed into the wall, papers spiraled into the air like torn leaves. The entire room shuddered under the force of her anger.

Sunshine stood up, eyes cold and pale like the snow “Leah enough.” Her voice harbored a warning. She raised her hand, the swirling air crystalized mid-motion like statues.

The wind died instantly, replaced by silence and a low gasp from Major Elio.

Dominic caught his wife as she swayed, the last of her energy spent. “Leah! He shouted, holding her as her eyes fluttered shut. Her body went limp in his arms.

“Elio, decontamination first and then take them to the medic bay.” Sunshine ordered. “Make sure they sedate her.”

The Stewards and their companions who had not said a word were escorted out.

“What next?” Hades asked Sunshine.
