Chapter 307: How to win Lisha
It had been the squad’s zero’s first exploration beyond the wall. They had escorted the villagers to begin the task of exploring the forest to map out the path for new roads. Sunshine did not expect them to return to the base with injuries that required hospitalization so upon being told that even a superhuman was injured, she rushed to the medic bay.

Philip was being stitched up as he had more injuries than most. He was pouting, sulking because Morris was big, bare chested and injury free. She could not understand why this was a problem. Fewer injuries were a good thing.

“What happened out there?” She asked curiously.

Morris was quick to answer. “Foxes, the multiple tailed kind, there seem to be an awful lot of them in the forest. We must have stumbled onto a den…..”

“Ah, ahh, ahhhhh!!!” Philip screamed.

Doctor Choi rolled his eyes, like the nurses and two other doctors in the treatment room. Sunshine and Morris could not even carry their conversation on anymore because Philip was begging for everyone’s attention.

“Don’t move.” Nurse Pine hissed at him.

Sunshine’s supper lip arched upwards. “He is a superhuman and he can endure pain more than an ordinary person. A simple stitch job is not enough to cause such shouting.”

“How about I take a thread and needle to your neck without a pain killer or anything to numb the area.” He snapped at her.

Nurse Pine slapped him.

Morris sniggered. “Where was I?” He turned back to Sunshine.

“Foxes.” She slipped of her gloves and looked at the big man who was yet to shrink back to his normal size.

Morris nodded. “Yes, foxes. I was all for mapping the area and returning another day to wipe them out, but Philip had another idea.” His eyes locked on Philip’s; a smile decorated his lips. “Go on Philip, tell the boss why you rushed into a Fox cave on your own?”

Philip pouted even more in response.

Morris sighed and provided the answer which everyone in the room was interested in. “He thought the white fur was pretty, so he wanted to kill a few, skin them and make coats. He also wanted to use the furry tails to impress Lisha.”

More than a few people gasped.

Sunshine was stunned. “Lisha! You actually like Lisha!”

“Why must you say it like that?” He asked her. “Are you looking down on me? Do you think I don’t deserve her? I am good looking, a good earner, nice, handsome and a superhuman.”

Sunshine rolled her eyes. “I am not looking down on you; I am just surprised. I could have sworn you had a thing for Nimo.”

“He did.” Dr. Choi affirmed confidently like this fact had been whispered to him in his sleep.

“I don’t care who he likes, I care more about his recklessness that nearly got us all mauled.” Morris jumped in, “Lover boy here needs sense to be knocked back into his brain before his over-the-top romantic gesture gets us all killed on our next trip beyond the wall.”

Sunshine exhaled.

Nurse Pine tapped Philip on the back. “I am done.”

Nurse Rebecca, the oldest one in the room at the wise age of sixty-five said, “Lisha is high maintenance, I say the over-the-top romantic gestures are just beginning. If there is something out there with ruby eyes, he will dig them out to impress her.”

Morris’s expression hardened.

“I am not that crazy.” Philip denied.

Everyone in the room kept their lips sealed but deep down, they had the same answer. Yes, he was that crazy. Morris asked the doctors and nurses to step out.

He looked at Sunshine and reported his findings. “We did successfully discover the shortest path to Busker town. According to my estimate, it is thirty minutes if one takes a car and one and half hours if one goes on foot. Acid rain cleared out most of the trees. What remains are mutated ones that we can cut down. Of course, we have to clear out the dangerous mutated beasts in the area.”

“Make the arrangements, I will make sure that you have all the weapons and protection you need.” She told him.

Morris excused himself, leaving Sunshine and Philip. She had no intentions of staying back either but before her feet could move, Philip asked a question that made her stop.

“Do you think I have a chance with Lisha?”

Sunshine’s first instinct was to brutally break his heart. It was probably better for her to do it than have Lisha stomp on it. But love was a strange thing. If Mr. Drew could marry and live with Helena Drew for many years before divorcing, who could say if Lisha and Philip could not make it work?

She had seen stranger couples in the base.

“Over the years, I have seen Lisha dating only one type of man: wealthy.” She told him, meeting his eyes directly. “Some were jerks, some were ugly, some had questionable hygiene. But all were wealthy. If that is the standard she is still keeping, I am afraid that you are in for a disappointment.”

He lowered his eyes like a sad puppy.

“But times have changed.” Sunshine quickly added. “It’s an apocalypse, women are not just looking for wealthy, they are also looking for dependable and strong. You are superhuman, obviously wealth is going to come to you. Strength….you already have. Looks…..” She tilted her head. “You could be a member of a 90’s boy band.”

“90’s!!” Philip sat upright, raising his exclaimed voice. “That is like thousands of years ago.”

“No, it isn’t.” She replied flatly.

“I am making a point.” Philip said strongly. “What I am trying to say is that you are making me think that I look old and my fashion sense expired long ago.”

Sunshine smiled. “Fashion sense! the fact that you care about that makes me think that you and Lisha might actually have a chance. And I said 90’s boy band because you have that falling to the sides of your face haircut, a youthful face and cheeky grin thing going for you.”

Philip puffed his chest. Everything she said sounded like a compliment and she thought he and Lisha had something in common. So, he stood a very big chance of winning her over.

“Here is some advice for you if you want to win Lisha’s heart, keep the jokes and stories but lose the fire farts and other behaviors that might give a woman the ick.” She said.

Philip frowned. “Ick.”

She nodded. “I mean disgusting behavior that will make her run in the opposite direction. I should give you a heads up on that. Lisha was a socialite so her ick list is….errr…well….it’s complicated: making “nom nom nom” sounds while eating.”

Philip made the sounds, moving his mouth around exaggeratedly.

Sunshine was sure what he was doing was definitely on the ick list. “Winking too often, she thinks it is desperate. Referring to pets as fur babies, she has a cat so keep that in mind. Any conversations about politics in which you try to make yourself sound like an expert and yet you are not. Owning a gym.”

“What?” He asked.

“Owning a gym.” Sunshine repeated. “For some reason, she doesn’t like men that own gyms. Men who use the word “hence”, men who have podcasts on opinions related to the female body. Men who refer to themselves as daddy or hubby.”
