Chapter 747: Where is he?
Bai Meiyue had no other choice but to dismiss the idea of chasing after Bai Xue. Anyway, even if she had successfully chased after that woman after dealing with the wave of the undead, there was a very good chance that she would have been trapped inside the wave of the mutated bugs. She might be strong, but she was not strong enough to deal with everything. Bai Meiyue absolutely loathed the idea of letting Bai Xue go again, but she had no other choice at the moment.

The situation was not favourable to her, a pregnant woman who couldn’t even run.

If the mutated bug tide arrived when she was chasing after Bai Xue, her life would end up falling into a risky situation, and honestly, neither Bai Xue nor Bai Feng was worth it.

She took Meng Suisuia and Shen Zhen back with her to the fifth floor, where the damage was a bit more controlled, and it was not as bad as the fourth floor. Bai Meiyue was upset that the bed that Lei Qian had arranged was now gone and burnt to a crisp, but there was no point in regretting it, as it was not going to change anything. The bed was gone, and so were the rest of the facilities. It was good enough that they had a place to rest with the couches and everything set in place.

“Move these couches to the tenth floor, second brother,” said Bai Meiyue as she sat down on the couch and rubbed her feet, which were aching a little. She had been standing for a long time and was rather tired after walking so much. She blamed Bai Xue and Bai Feng for the sufferings that she had suffered. If not for those two idiots acting up, she might not have stood like a fool.

“Why?” Bai Jixuan was confused when he heard Bai Meiyue’s request. They were already on the fifth floor; was there any need for them to go even higher?

Seeing the confusion in his eyes, Bai Meiyue simply explained to him, “We won’t be safe once the corpse tide intensifies, brother Jixuan. There won’t be just second or first-level zombies. There is a very good chance that there will be a third or maybe even a fourth-rank zombie in this crowd. They can easily climb to the fifth floor, and we won’t be safe then.”

They couldn’t block the windows, as it would make Bai Meiyue feel suffocated and trapped. She had spent her childhood being trapped inside the small storage room for the smallest mistake that she might have committed. She didn’t like to be trapped. Being locked up or being cooped up made her feel like she was back to the time when Chu Xia would send her to the storage room because she made Bai Xue unhappy.

Bai Feng might think that she wanted Bai Xue dead because she hated her for ruining her reputation, but what Bai Feng didn’t know was that, for the sake of avoiding trouble by bringing her two brothers to the capital, her father had raised Bai Feng much more carefully than her. The Bai family was at most a strict academy for Bai Feng, but for her, it was a prison. Where she was supposed to give and keep on giving.

She was never allowed to take anything in return. Bai Meiyue was holding those grudges in her heart, and yet she had never reached out to the Bai family or harmed them, but even after taking so much from her, Bai Xue dared to reach out to her son and placed her hands on that innocent soul.

And when she questioned her…what did she say?

Bai Meiyue, oh Bai Meiyue, are you still not awake yet? You might not know this, but you have always been a stepping stone for me. So what if I killed your son? So what if I took his life? You were supposed to die for me, but you didn’t. So your son had to die for me. Do you not understand your position? Do you not see what you are? You were nothing but my shadow. A substitute. A servant —no, a slave. A slave who was supposed to do whatever I wanted. Just because we treated you kindly for a few days, did you really take yourself as the daughter of this family!?

Bai Meiyue hated Bai Xue not only for taking her son away but also because she had no regret, no guilt, and no remorse when she asked her why she did it. That woman was beyond selfish and cruel. Even the devil would feel threatened by the level of ruthlessness that woman held in her heart. Like right now. Her mother, who doted on her so much, died right in front of her. She even gave up on her life to pave the way for Bai Xue, and what was Bai Xue’s reaction?

Nothing.

She didn’t feel sorry for the loss, nor did she feel regretful for losing her mother. She only cared about her own sorry life. Someone like her—was she worth leaving alone? Bai Xue was the kind of person who would kill even the very saviour who saved her life.

Thus, the deep grudge that she and the Bai family had was not going to disappear, no matter what.

“You mean to say that these zombies can climb even to this floor?”

Bai Meiyue snapped out of her daze when she heard Meng Suisui’s worried voice and nodded with a solemn expression. After she had finished nursing her feet, she got up and said to her brother, “I will check whether the tenth floor is alright or not with my elder brother.”

“You—”

“I will be fine,” feeling the hatred surge in her heart, Bai Meiyue said to her second brother, “I need to take this anger out somehow or else I am worried that I will go mad.”
