Chapter 461: Chapter 461: Saving The People in the South
This was because several people in the conference room including the president, Ye Xuan, Commander Shen, the middle-aged woman who had been in the president’s room, and a couple other middle-aged men were looking at him with sharp eyes.

“How can you say that citizens of our great country are useless and less deserving of services that could save their lives?” Commander Shen asked angrily.

“But most of them are ordinary people.” The person mumbled.

“So, ordinary people are no longer citizens of our country? When was this decided and why didn’t I, as the president know?” President Yu was boiling with anger at that moment.

Seeing the attitude of some of the people there who were just short of clapping and praising the man for being right, he wanted to burn them all alive.

How could they treat human life like grass? They had no respect for the sanctity of life at all.

Just because the people in the south are poor and didn’t awaken superpowers, they deserved to die without a care?

“Mr. President, let’s not dwell on the opinions of these narrow-minded people. Let’s first find a way to save as many people as possible and end the cholera pandemic before thinking of other ways to enable those people to be productive.

I am sure that given the chance, those citizens could contribute greatly to the progress of our country, even in the apocalypse.” Another middle-aged man said.

“You are right. Any ideas?” The president asked as he looked around the table.

“We can provide medicine.” Ye Xuan said in a deep and firm voice.

They had both western medicine and herbs harvested from the Soul Ring.

Since he already knew about Chu Miao’s mission to end the apocalypse, he was sure that she won’t oppose to him taking the initiative to offer medicine to the suffering citizens.

“Really? Ye boy, I am glad you came here at this time. We could use dedicated people like you right now.” Commander Shen praised with a laugh.

“I am just doing my duty as a citizen and a soldier.” Ye Xuan said humbly.

He didn’t want to take credit as he wasn’t the one providing the medicine, but to protect Chu Miao, he also didn’t say who was giving the medicine.

He just let everyone use their imagination to fill that information blank.

“Alright, we have medicine, what about other necessities? How are the people in the south living?” The president asked.

“According to the information received, most of them live in shacks made of plastic papers and cardboards.

Moreover, they don’t have a bathroom or toilet and have to use plastic wrappers or bottles to answer the call of nature.” The middle-aged woman reported.

This was something that everyone else wanted to avoid mentioning because it was both gross and disgraceful.

The men in the conference room hadn’t expected a woman to be the one to bring up such an unpleasant topic.

“What? It’s that bad?” Commander Shen was surprised because even though he had received a report about that place, he hadn’t expected the details to be so inhumane.

“Yes, it’s that bad. So, those people are going to need more than just medicine. They need a safe place to live in and food on their tables.

Some of the people there are not dying from the cholera but are starving to death or dying of thirst.

Right now, packaged water is as scarce as the tears of a chicken. The base mostly depends on people with the water superpower to supply everyone with clean drinking water.

However, with no one caring about the south, they don’t get a share and the water supplies at the supply point is limited.

One is only allowed half a liter of water per day. They obviously can’t drink and cook with that, if even they have something to cook.” There was anger in the words of the beautiful middle-aged woman.

It was obvious that she was bothered by this situation but was powerless to help.

“Then that has to change now. What do we do?” President Yu asked sternly.

People began looking at each other but no one offered a solution.

The president observed them and realized that these people were selfish and afraid of using too many supplies to subsidize the citizens in the south and affecting their luxurious lives.

Thus, he made the decision himself.

“From now on, the supplies given to all leaders including myself will be cut in half. Water will also be supplied to everyone and each household is entitled to five liters of water daily.

Whenever there are odd jobs that could help people to earn supplies within the base, priority will be given to the citizens in the south who have no superpowers and thus, lack the ability to go out and hunt zombies.

Any objections?” He didn’t have a hint of the easy-going president on him anymore.

Hence, no one dared to oppose the decision even though they were against it.

“Now, what about the housing problem?” The president wasn’t done yet.

If the people were provided with work, food and water and still had nowhere to live, then everything else would be in vain.

“Right now, constructing new buildings might not be realistic, but what if we can get family-sized tents?

If we could get those, we would be able to provide safe places for them, at least, temporarily.” One of the supporters of President Yu suggested.

“Tents are a good idea. Do we have any in store?” One of the other two old men asked.

“We do have tents. I am not sure about the family-sized ones, but the ones used by soldiers in the wild are certainly available.” Commander Shen replied.

“Send someone to check and see if we have the family-sized ones. If we do, they could be distributed to those with families in the south while those without are provided the ones used by soldiers.” The president ordered and Commander Shen pressed the button of a gadget that was hanging on his waist.

Soon, a knock came from the door. After getting permission, a soldier pushed the door open and saluted everyone in the room before walking over to Commander Shen.

Commander Shen gave him instructions softly then the soldier left again.
