Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Intelligent Zombies Appear
“Well, Grandpa Chu, it is indeed true that zombies have evolved beyond expectations.

Yesterday my team and I came a cross one of those in a small warehouse near the city center.

I would say it was a spiritual zombie because it could command the others and have them fight for it like it’s soldiers.

However, it’s not as weak as other spiritual zombies we have encountered before. Its battle ability was still good and I had to expend some effort to kill it even in close combat.

Moreover, it had regenerative abilities. At first, I shot it a few time in a bid to break some bones and slow it down so that I could attack its head.

What was surprising was that even though its skin was a rotten mess like the other zombies, every spot that it was shot would mend itself at a speed visible to the naked eye.

I only managed to put it down after chopping off its head.

However, this zombie had other characteristics that were different from other zombies. It could communicate with others through grunts even hand gestures.

Also, it’s eyes were different from the rest. They were a bit expressive. Even though they were filled with red veins, they weren’t completely grey or white like the rest.

What stood out to me was the expression it had on its face when I approached. I could confirm that the zombie could see me and was even mocking me.

So, zombies have definitely become intelligent.” Li Kun gave all the details he had noticed the previous day.

He didn’t know if this information was useful, but he thought it might be for the three professors.

And he was right because the professors were at the table as well and at that moment, they were looking at him as if he had treasure on him.

He didn’t understand what they meant, but he found out soon.

“Did you bring that zombie back?” Professor Wu, the oldest asked.

Li Kun just looked at him like an idiot. Why would he carry that thing back? Not only was it disgusting, but it was also completely dead. He had chopped its head.

“Don’t look at us like that. If we could research such a zombie, we might be able to understand how they evolve and find a way to stop it or another method to fight them.

How could you leave such a treasure behind?” Professor Tang asked angrily.

Li Kun hadn’t expected to land himself in hot soup by telling the truth. Now he wished he had just said that zombies were indeed evolving and left it at that.

“I brought back its crystal core. Maybe it can help you with something. Since it had so many abilities such as strength, regeneration, and spiritual, there must be residue of such power in the crystal core.

I will give it to you to study. If I come across a similar zombie in the future, I will bring it back.” Li Kun didn’t have a choice but to defend himself this way.

Even though the old professors weren’t happy, they couldn’t do anything since it was already too late and he couldn’t go back and bring the zombie to them.

They could only accept the crystal core.

“Why is everyone else so stupid? Not as cute or as clever as Little Miao, she knows to bring us some experimental subjects from time to time, but the rest of you youngsters are useless.” The talkative Professor Song grumbled.

The other people in the room turned to look at him, because he kept complaining about the youngsters when he was also in his forties.

“So, it has been determined that there are indeed intelligent zombies and they have started to learn to create armies. It’s just that, their intelligence hasn’t crossed a certain level and their organization is still lacking.

However, if this continues, humans will be in trouble.” Grandpa Li sighed emotionally.

“Old friend, you are right. But it looks futile to stop their evolution, so they only thing we can do is to strengthen ourselves such that the armies of zombies cannot threaten us.

It’s a pity that the people in those seats are becoming more and more selfish as time goes by. Instead of finding solutions on how to protect the citizens, they are finding ways to line their own pockets.” Grandpa Chu said angrily.

He was regretful that he had already retired when the apocalypse started. However, he was also glad about it because it was the reason he could start a private sect with his family and friends to protect humanity in different ways.

“Dad, you don’t have to be angry. It we were associated with those people now, you would have been forced to hand over the legacy of our family to those people.

Something that our ancestors left behind to protect humanity would have been used by them to strengthen their own powers and gain more ability to oppress the weak.

It is actually good that you are free to do what you want without the restrictions and expectations of a military man.” Chu Mo didn’t think it was a loss that his father had retired before the apocalypse began.

He thought it was a blessing because in this way, he had no obligation to share what he had.

The others in the room felt the same. It was better that those people who wouldn’t hesitate to issue a kill order on their soldiers couldn’t access cultivation techniques and resources.

Otherwise, it would be a disaster.

“You are right, I was just being unnecessarily sentimental. So, what should we do about the situation with the zombies?

Strengthening a few soldiers and warriors might not be enough.” Grandpa Chu said with a sad sigh.

“Uncle Chu, why don’t we make it compulsory for everyone whether they are superpower users or fighters to train?

We can even have the ordinary people learn to fight. Save for the elderly who might end up hurting themselves if they joined the training, everyone else including children should be included.” The eldest son of the Li family suggested.
