Chapter 392: Chapter 392: New Families Join the Sect
Back in the outside world, early in the morning a group of people showed up with their belongings and family in tow.
Wei Zi Qi was excited and couldn’t wait to see You Yue. You Yue had decided not to return home the previous day and followed Li Kun and the others. She had already settled in the community and was waiting for the rest of her team to arrive.
Wei Zi Qi had barely slept through the night, replaying You Yue’s words and remembering her determination in his mind.
Now knowing that she was already inside the community and was safe, gave him relief. But at the same time, he was eager to confirm it with his own eyes.
You Yue had already been given a temporary apartment and settled in the community, though she had spent most of the evening helping to clean. She was on cleaning duty today but no one made things difficult for her.
Now that her team members were at the gate registering themselves, she got wind of it and ran over to take a look and welcome them personally.
Even if she was trying to break free from her past, these people had fought side by side with her. They were familiar, and in this unfamiliar new beginning, familiarity was comforting.
Moreover, they were the part of her past that he didn’t want to let go. They were part of the family that didn’t share blood ties, but didn’t abandon her.
Reaching the gate, You Yue saw her teammates and their families who looked better than a few days ago.
It was obvious that the supplies they had taken home had done a lot of good for them.
They looked more spirited and energetic.
Among them, Wei Zi Qi stood straight, his eyes scanning the inside of the gates until they locked with hers. The moment he spotted her, his face lit up with a smile so warm that her steps faltered for half a second.
“You Yue!” Wei Zi Qi called out, jogging forward with barely able to contain his excitement.
However, before he could cross the gate, he was stopped by an armed soldier.
“Please wait until you finish registering first before going inside.” The soldier was polite and didn’t threaten him, but his tone was explanatory.
“Thanks.” Wei Zi Qi said with a blushing face. He had been too excited.
“You all made it safely,” You Yue said softly with a relieved look on her face.
Her tone wasn’t overly emotional, but the sparkle in her eyes betrayed her happiness.
Unlike Wei Zi Qi who couldn’t enter the community yet, she could leave, so she walked outside the gate to where they were.
“Of course,” Wei Zi Qi said, stopping just close enough not to overstep. He wanted to hug her, to tell her outright how worried he’d been, but with so many eyes watching, he held back. Instead, he simply added, “I told you I’d come.”
The others quickly joined them, smiling as if a weight had lifted off their shoulders. They were all worried about You Yue, especially after finding out about her family.
The team leader clasped You Yue’s shoulder. “It’s good to see you safe, Yue. When you said you wouldn’t go back, we were worried you’d end up wandering alone. This is better.”
You Yue nodded. “This place… it really is different from the base we came from. People treat each other fairly. As long as you work, you’ll be fine. You’ll see for yourselves soon enough.” Even though she had only been there for less than twenty-four hours, she had already experienced the warmth of family, even though these people had no relationship with her.
As they were talking, Li Kun appeared with a few guards to oversee the registration. He looked pleased when he saw the group. “You’re earlier than I had anticipated. But that’s good. Come on, let’s get you registered.”
The people he recruited weren’t the only ones registering as other people recruited by the others had also started to arrive.
The families lined up one by one to give their names, ages, and the number of dependents they had. Everything was recorded carefully by a clerk. After that, they were given tokens that would allow them to move freely in and out of the gates.
This was a little different from what they had experienced in the other base, but it made them feel safer and as if they belonged.
“You’ll be assigned apartments based on family size,” Li Kun explained. “Smaller families get smaller units, larger families get larger ones.
But don’t worry, each apartment is fully stocked with basic necessities to get you started. From there, you’ll join work rotations based on ability.”
This was something you wouldn’t see in other bases. How could they give them supplies just by joining? But here it seemed that Li Kun had not lied to them.
They were glad they had made the decision to come.
The families exchanged glances, stunned at how orderly and fair it all seemed. Some even wiped tears from their eyes. In this chaotic world, the chance to live like humans again was a blessing they hadn’t dared to hope for.
Wei Zi Qi, however, wasn’t listening to Li Kun anymore. His focus was entirely on You Yue. She looked calmer now. It was as if a weight she had been carrying had finally been let down.
He wanted to keep her in that state forever.
“You Yue,” he said softly once the others had gone ahead to collect their apartment keys. “Which unit are you in?” He figured that even if he didn’t know it now, once he gets acquainted with the place, he could look for her.
You Yue hesitated for a moment, but then replied, “Block B, third floor. Apartment 307.” She didn’t like climbing stairs, especially since the elevator was no longer working. Thus, she had chosen an apartment on the third floor.
The floods were gone anyway.
