Chapter 1708: Before the Explosion
Hesso had long started to feel dissatisfied with his uncle. Hesso was already in his late 30s. What was his uncle doing, still not announcing him as the heir?
Was he really planning on using his own kid?!
Besides, that woman seemed to be the one behind Sasha’s miscarriage! When he tried to attack her, his uncle sent him to prison instead!
“Wouldn’t they be troublesome? The drugs could’ve gotten them strong allies.”
“We also secured a lot of allies!”
Sasha paused, looking at him without much emotion, even as he plundered her. “When will you leave?”
“The first batch is tomorrow. With beast carts, we will reach the place in around two days, and then settle down there for a bit, and then we’ll strike.”
He cackled. They wouldn’t know what hit them!
“In the meantime, since we wouldn’t see each other in a while,” he said, opening the woman’s legs as wide as they could, ramming wildly into her like a brainless beast that he was.
“We’d better enjoy our last nights together!”
And final nights together, they would be indeed.
…
After finding out and confirming that Flaret Town was indeed the source of the drugs, Voumi Town immediately secured a new ally outside of existing subsidiaries.
It was none other than Baccal Town! Mafo was a bit surprised it was so easy, in fact, since they didn’t seem particularly receptive to his previous advances.
They promised to send them scores and scores of level 13 to level 15 mercenaries that could be of help! Of course, in exchange, Baccal was allowed to consume a third of Flaret Town’s assets, including drugs.
Eian was also rewarded with dozens of gold for his contributions in the deal. He used it to buy more slaves, though, mostly at a discount, but no one really cared about it.
Another week of preparation passed by after this, until it was finally time for war.
[Voumi Town (Lv1) has declared war against Flaret Town (Lv1)!]
…
To Flaret Town, the war declaration fell from nowhere.
The Lord gasped and immediately found his confidantes, telling them of the unexpected declaration.
“VOUMI TOWN!? What did we do to them?” Peaco gasped, shivering, walking to and fro the room as he looked at the announcement over and over.
Felipe, who was sitting comfortably in a rather important position in the Lord’s office, i.e. the head table, looked solemnly at the man.
“Calm down, Milord,” he said. “Have you forgotten? We were not as weak as we were six months ago.”
This made Peaco’s fidgeting stop.
Indeed!
His Town had been struggling so much that he had always feared getting attacked because the losses were sure to be massive, even if he won. But that wasn’t the case anymore!
The resources back then could not be compared to what he had now and, most importantly, he had Felipe!
Felipe knew everything! He could fix any problems that came his way!
“T-Then… what do we do to ensure we will win?”
Felipe’s arms were crossed. “Why did you think I proposed a partnership with three mercenary teams?” he asked.
One of the best ways to ensure the force value of a territory was to get good mercenary teams to choose your territory as the base.
This was especially true since the Town was only level 1 and did not have a Mercenary Hall yet (he knew of the future buildings and amenities from the Center hires).
In the case of Level 2 towns and above, they could just hire from the Hall as additional reinforcement, though the exact limit according to the rules was still unclear. As a Level 1 Town, they had a lot less leeway for impromptu hires.
Before, there were only two mercenary teams in Flaret, and both were only two Class Es, which had members averaging levels 10 through 15.
Considering Flaret was not a new Town, this really wasn’t very good. Now, with the leverage of the all-important White Happiness and Pink Dream, they had—under strict oaths—recruited two more Class D Mercenary teams to join in. They were also in the process of convincing a Class C one, though their demands at this time were too high.
Felipe had a plan for them, of course, and that was, one way or another, to get them hooked and dependent on the drug! He had already sent free samples to them. It would only be a matter of time before they came begging for a partnership instead.
Of course, there was a risk of them biting back and taking things by force, but the other forces they had in place were not a joke! It would be more likely they’d ally with them to get the benefits instead.
Counting, the C-class mercenary team should approach him themselves in another week or two.
Other preparations included increasing defenses and so on. They had a lot of money now, so they added sentries.
Another was the consumable resources like wood and stone, as well as food stock. Again, this wasn’t a problem because they had money.
They could also stock up equipment as needed. In the past months, they had received quite a lot of Class Ds and even a few Class C equipment in exchange for bags of the drug.
And… he also needed to know what the deal was with Voumi. There was no indication of hostility from them at all.
He had heard some business was happening there according to their dealers assigned West, but all he knew was that they were pretty good customers.
So…what was going on? Did they somehow figure out the source?
How?
He employed so many red herrings and misdirections that there shouldn’t have been clues so early on.
He narrowed his eyes. Who leaked it? Even if there were, eventually, some leaks, he placed a lot of misdirections so most would be led to other places, instead.
He knew they wouldn’t be able to stay hidden forever, but he at least thought he had enough time to consolidate his forces!
He thought he still had months, or even a year, before he was discovered. That would’ve been enough time to gather a few more C-Class mercenary teams!
Felipe gritted his teeth, but otherwise did not show much of his anger. Still, he abhorred it when things didn’t go according to plan.
What the hell happened?
