Chapter 1700: Victory Parade
While the Intelligence team was still gathering intel against Flaret by sending and settling down investigators and spies there, Alterra got the satellite to attack the last Terran (or former Terran) territory in the East.
As usual, it was a resounding win.
A special edition of the newspaper was also released that day. The headline?
Eastern Terran Region: Cleared!
It was the final Terran territory East of Alterra that had been taken over by aborigines.
The fact that they had done all this—either taking over or allying with scores of territories—in a few months was definitely an achievement.
The newspaper might hide some news because they were confidential— like what they were doing to Valov and Voumi— but they were definitely willing to brag a lot about the movements in the Terran region.
One, this was to increase the sense of pride and patriotism amongst their people, regardless of whether they were Alterran or not. It would also help them lift their heads and puff their chests when encountering aborigines, finding pride in their identity.
For the past year or so, their existence had been among the bottom because of their low levels, and the fact that the majority had been hunted to become slaves. It was time for that to change.
Another was to inform the citizens, especially if they were travelling around, which territories were affiliated with Alterra. This would allow the citizens to be prepared if they had to land in hostile territory.
This was also sent with a particular timing, which was a day before the Alterrans who joined in the war were to return. They’d be coming home on foot this time (since they were the support team and the actual arrays were far from them).
It was also a high time to do a victory parade.
Adorably, the victory parade had the battle pets~
They started doing Victory parades just for the heck of it. It wasn’t anything grand. Alterra rarely had to move directly now, as they’d just get an ally to attack, and then they’d support them.
However, in the rare cases that they did get involved, it had somewhat become an unofficial habit of people to welcome them back as a (big) group. The traffic enforcers would even clear the main avenue for them.
Mao looked over at the procession and soon saw a familiar large ball of white and black. The panda was one of the bigger (in all dimensions) battle pets, so he was quite visible.
“PANG!!” he yelled, waving at his own battle pet at the back of the line. He hadn’t seen this one in a while!
Since he was beyond the level cap, he couldn’t go through the array. For the battle pets training in villages, they were usually assigned partners there, even if they were not bonded to them.
Battle Pets were smart and could adjust. The difference between other people and bonded was just a certain instinct and teamwork as well as communication. Otherwise, everything else could be developed.
The panda toddled in his direction rather slowly, and Mao couldn’t help but look at him.
“YOU GOT FAT!”
Smack!
This earned him a smack on the back of his head. He whipped his head to see it was Leiah, the nurse. No, the doctor-trainee now.
The woman sneered at him. “You’re fat. Pang is fluffy!”
“I’m his master, I get to decide the adjectives!”
Leah gasped. “Animal abuse!!”
“You—”
The two were ignored, and Pang just walked past them with that big bum. Someone had a nice basket of vegetables in front, you see.
…
The other pets received similar attention, with some more than others.
Fufi was part of the group that returned from the latest war and had taken down a few village-level powerhouses (and Mercenaries) himself.
He looked quite proud, walking along the road with his chin up and tail wagging like a fan. Similarly, he also got extra cheers for his awesomeness.
“Good Job, Fufi!”
“The best boi!”
“Fufi! Fufi! FUFI!”
“Fufi! Fufi! Show us your loot!”
“Yeah, your loot!”
Since people found out that battle pets had spaces as well, though they didn’t know the size yet, people started guessing what was inside the battle pets’ spaces. It became a fun game for some, and some even made bets on what could be inside.
Historically, for Fufi, it was usually jerky or other forms of meat. Sometimes it was really just random things—like toys or pretty rocks—he’d probably give to someone in the family.
Interestingly, it would often be plants foraged for Lady Althea. It was especially so since he had a pretty useful foraging skill. It was one of the reasons he always went out to help in war, sometimes even when Alterra wasn’t involved.
It was because, if the place was far enough from Alterra, there were chances he could get new material for her.
Other than plants, he also took home a few other interesting and useful things over the past couple of months.
Fufi was indeed a very good boy, and it was also why his space was the most interesting among the battle pets.
“Come on, Fufi! Show us!”
“I bet it’s some plant again,” one said. After all, since he was just from a war, he probably consumed the meat in his space already! Lady Althea loved her plants, and it was definitely the best gift for her.
“It’s probably a pretty rock for Lady Pepper!”
“Or some unusual mineral again. Didn’t they say the last one was more useful than expected?”
“Come on, Fufi! Show us! Show us!”
Woof!
Fufi woofed with that stupid smile of his, his large tail wagging, and those behind him in the queue had to give way before they got slapped by the tail.
Anyway, gossipers looked at the item Fufi decided to reveal today.
Flop!
“This—”
A hand. A dismembered hand.
“AHHHH!”
Woof!
“WHAT THE F—” someone cursed. “FUFI!”
One of the guards who had teamed up with Fufi looked awkward. “Well, you see, the Lord over there was running away with his token and refused to give it to us, so…
So Fufi just bit off the entire hand..
The token couldn’t be taken in the space, but then he forgot to take the collateral arm out again. Until now, anyway.
“…”
