Chapter 1691: Ending the Limestone Valley War (Part 1)
While the war was taking a little while longer because of Voumi’s support and their hundreds of mercenaries, it was just a bit more troublesome for the attackers.
For one, before the war reached its second hour, every guard on the battlements had already been pushed down or killed.
More and more people had gone through, and those who were still guarding the walls panicked. They did not know whether to hit those outside to stop them from coming in or shoot those inside because they kept damaging people and property, weakening the defenses.
Some of them did the former, some of them did the latter. Rather, due to panic and the need to protect themselves, it was more of the latter.
Soon, areas were taken down, and the attackers took over the battlements.
And thus was the ironic sight of archers on the battlements not shooting outwards, but shooting in!
Some attackers were assigned to block the sentries. Some blocked the mouth of where the sentries shot arrows, while some used their superior-looking shields to cover their people and their archers.
Among the first town hires of Alterra sent to Limestone Valley, only Eloff remained within the level cap. The others had already exceeded that, so they remained in the territory, guarding it.
Eloff was an archer, with light brown hair combed at the middle, and also a penchant for war stuff.
Seeing this kind of situation made his eyes sparkle. Never in his life would he think he’d ever see this sight!
The grand line of archers in enemy battlements. Instead of the enemy walls being used to protect them, they were now used by their side to cut down on the locals, using their own infrastructure against them.
It was too cool! He was so glad to have experienced this just before he got kicked out of village-level wars~
Soon, the entire battlement was occupied and the enemies were controlled. The Inko villagers could only watch passively as more and more enemies entered their land, and they could only hope that they made the right decision by succumbing!
…
That wasn’t to say there weren’t injuries, of course.
There were no deaths yet, but the mercenaries borrowed from Voumi weren’t weak. If they decided to target a particular group of people, then the attackers, whose average level was lower, could get in trouble.
For example, a team of mercenaries targeted a team of level 10s when they averaged at level 14. This naturally caused a lot of injuries, and they survived thanks to Tacky and the others arriving on time and ordering the slaves to shower elements on the mercenaries.
Then, some of their own powerhouses of level 14s and 15s arrived to deal with the mercenaries.
Fortunately, the injured Limestone Valley citizens would always be brought somewhere safe by teammates. In this case, they had set one of the houses near the breach as a temporary clinic.
Most of the people there were lying down on the floor, injured. The person handling them was none other than Raffy, Limestone Valley’s head healer after Volohov migrated to Alterra.
Raffy looked at the dozen people in front of him, lined up with various injuries. Some were more serious than others and their bones had to be arranged first before he could use his ability.
He and his assistants did their best to do this quickly. After that, he closed his eyes and called on to his element.
[Used! Healing Fog]
Water elements surrounded a few meter radius around him. Slowly, but surely, the particles hovered over the injured, slowly concentrating on areas with the greatest injuries. Some of these injuries weren’t even obvious, but were wholly internal.
The shivering and pale patients soon gained color, and the pained expressions on their faces morphed to serenity. It was almost like they were peacefully sleeping.
It worked a bit slowly compared to other healers, but one could see how the colors of the injured’s skin improved as the treatment went on.
Raffy’s style had always been outward, so he was always slower and weaker than his peers, at least at first.
But when he found his niche, he made up for it with hard work, gaining an area of effect healing ability in the process.
…
In another area, a majority of the inko guards (tried to) block the way to what could only be called a waterfall of enemies.
They were not sure what was happening elsewhere, but they really couldn’t stop this breach! One of the major contributors was that their citizens—who were supposed to assist and be meat shields—were all cowardly hiding in their homes.
“DAMN THEM!!” the Inko guards yelled. “Don’t hide, useless fools!”
Now that more than a thousand enemies had entered, many of them just preferred not to fight at all!
“DAMNIT!!”
“COVER FOR US!” The guards yelled, willing the slaves in the vicinity to shield them. However, it never worked because other voices would always drown out his orders.
“TERRANS! PROTECT EACH OTHER! FIGHT FOR YOUR LIVES AGAINST YOUR OPPRESSORS! GAHHHH!” A passionate cry came from the side, and it seemed like the slaves got renewed energy to grasp at him, the guard they were supposed to be following!
They held on to his limbs. Even if they were weaker than he was, the sheer number of people holding on to all his limbs left him with no choice but to let go of his weapon.
“AHH!” he screamed. “LET GO!”
But the slaves kept holding him down, and this was the case with the others as well.
However, there were some who managed to escape. They knew that the voices were either traitors or spies, and they had to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Since the slaves were useless, they could only depend on their fellow guards and some mercenaries, who were oath-bound to at least do their best in the fight. Someone with sharp eyes saw the people with a sound-amplifying tool and pointed at them.
“KILL THOSE SPIES! KILL THEM!!!”
They had several hundred slaves in this area alone. That meant that, as long as those bastards had their tongues, they could control all these people! People who were supposed to be part of Inko’s forces!
