Chapter 1690: Limestone Valley War (Part 3)
Gurnam, of course, was wearing a bit of a disguise. He colored his hair and added a few marks on his face, just in case.
After all, he was once from Voumi, and was even sent out to war by Inkitt once, and there was a small chance he’d be recognized by someone from here or visiting the place.
Fortunately, thanks to the various modern Terran makeup and disguise techniques, even those bastards who tortured him directly wouldn’t have been able to recognize him.
And at this time, his role was to be the Lord’s most trusted guard, which was impressive considering it had been less than two weeks since he entered.
He managed to do this by putting on an act with the other spies, as well as giving several business and developmental ideas to Inkitt, increasing the trust within the span of a week.
It also helped that a lot of his former confidantes had either died, become slaves from a previous war, or had mysteriously gotten in trouble lately.
Speaking of some of Inkitt’s old confidantes, the Alterran guards had managed to squeeze in a lot of information about Inkitt from them, including his weaknesses and what could get to his trust the fastest. Gurnam used every tool he was given and, so far, things were going to plan.
“I will be enough to guard you, Milord,” he said. “Although we hired mercenaries from Voumi Town, Limestone Valley is also similarly backed by a Town and has a lot more resources.”
“If they group together and decide to target this place…”
“Ah, yes! Yes!” Inkitt gasped, looking at the other guards around him. “Go! Guard the entrance and the surrounding areas! Make sure no one can approach this area!!”
The other guards frowned. They were a little suspicious, and more importantly, they did not want to leave the safety of the cellar.
Gurnam sighed. “Well, I will leave; someone needs to guard the door, and I do not want to be lazy and be protected by the Lord.”
Inkitt’s eyes turned red at this, and he glared at his useless guard. “GET OUT RIGHT NOW!!” Unlike them, Gurnam was most reassuring to keep next to him!
The other guards could only look at each other, reluctantly following orders. “Y-Yes, Milord!”
…
Outside, just an hour after the start of war, the battle was already reaching its peak.
Like always, they chose a vulnerable spot to breach in. One of which was the mysterious beast-mobbed place, which was actually doused with a superior beast-attracting potion by their spies.
Master Hoffen and Lady Althea’s products were really superior. And because there was far less use for beast-attracting potions compared to beast-repelling potions, they also had enough stock to send one bottle out (via warehouse) to a satellite, so they could use it in this war to minimize the losses.
This allowed their forces to overflow quickly. By the time reinforcements arrived, hundreds had already gone in, causing chaos. It was particularly easy because most citizens were just hiding inside, not even bothering to send projectiles from their houses.
Only the slaves were outside…but even they were not necessarily contributing to Inko.
The noisiest places were those with voice amplifiers in their hands, causing chaos with their words, keeping enemy momentum down with their jabs.
“SLAVES!” Tacky yelled through the electric and solar-powered voice amplifier, standing where the slaves were. “Mob the guards! RIGHT NOW!”
And they followed, shocking the guards whose momentum was already low in the first place.
Tacky and his friends were permanent residents now, so they could make orders. The Inko guards definitely did not expect to suddenly be stabbed at the back like this!
“AHHH!”
They screamed, especially when they were being rained on by elements! Even if they were weak embers and small wind slashes, so many naturally hurt them!
Things happened so fast that many were injured before they could react.
The guard team lead assigned to this place managed to shield himself from a few fireballs heading in his direction. “STOPPP!” he yelled, ordering the slaves.
Unlike the mercenaries who could not order the slaves, this guard was also a permanent resident. He saw the slaves stop for a second, but it did not last.
Tacky gritted his teeth, holding the amplifier up. “DON’T STOP! AND FOCUS ON THEIR MOUTHS!”
“YOU!!!”
In the cases where the levels of the permanent residents giving orders were similar, then it became a battle of ‘who spoke the loudest’ and the slaves would follow him.
This was because he had a farther reach, and it would drown the other’s orders, literally and figuratively.
With the amplifier on hand, Tacky’s side was naturally undefeated in ordering people around!
This was probably one of the only cases of being loud won the argument.
There were a few of these around where the slaves were. The slaves were grouped together as they were ordered to go to specific breaches after all. It was a mob, but it was only advantageous to the Limestone Valley forces who had spies in their midst.
“DAMN! KILL THOSE NOISY BASTARDS!” One of the Voumi mercenaries, a level 14, yelled when they realized what was happening.
“AHH!” he screamed when one of the fire-user slaves sent him an ember!
Straight at the face, too! “DAMNIT!” he cursed. He felt a bit of a burn on his face. The damage was limited because the slave was weak, but it still hurt!
He raised his weapon, targeting the nearby slaves, not caring if they were from Inko or not. Unexpectedly, someone from the enemy team, a uniformed wind user, pushed him aside instead.
“WHA—”
Why were the enemies protecting slaves from their side!?
He did not have the time to think, however, when his group was slowly separated from each other and they were surrounded by enemy shields—all of which were D-class, by the way.
“AHHH!” they yelled as blades appeared in the gaps, stabbing at them. They were only level 14 and 15, and the level differences weren’t big. But they were soon filled with holes with little fight!
The mercenaries cursed. They should not have taken this mission!
